My terror takes hold of me. When I finally thought I was going to die, something abruptly catches my attention, and my eyes dart toward the door.

Like a wild, blood-covered, psychopathic guardian beast, Troy charges in with bare fangs. Snarl and growls buzz around me, and I can't do anything to defend my ears from each deafening blast.

I close my eyes because I'm so tired, I can't take it anymore.

I've never seen Troy this fierce, not even during a full moon.

My head falls to the floor, and I lose consciousness once again.

Only this time, relief washes over me because if I die here now, at least I saw my mate one last time.

🐺🐺🐺

*I'm enveloped in suffocating darkness, trapped inside the dirty room on the rotten floor.*

*Images flash before my eyes, a haunting reel of the horrors I've endured since day one of my captivity.*

*The cruel faces of Kevin and the bald guy, which until now I don't know his name and I don't want to know, leering at me with malice.* *I feel the weight of their gaze, the* *abusive touch of their hands.*

*I see myself chained, helpless and broken, subjected to them.*

*I throw up everything that comes out of my stomach, and when I see what I vomited, I blink twice because I don't see anything, nothing comes out.*

*But then, I remember that I haven't eaten in days.*

*Suddenly, it starts to rain, and the rain gets heavier. How can it be raining inside the room?*

*Rot takes over the place, the stench is so pungent that I want to vomit again, but my hands are chained, I can't even cover my nose.*

*I look up and see that the raindrops are actually drops of old pee.*

*I scream, scream, scream, but no one comes to help me, and I don't know how to get out of here.*

*The echoes of my screams reverberate through the void.*

*My worst fears take shape, Kevin is lurking in the corner, threatening to unleash more torment upon me. He attacks the kid; he knows no bounds!*

*Each twisted moment feels like an eternity of suffering.* *This dirty place claws at my sanity, a suffocating grip that tightens with each passing* *second.*

*Their voices are dripping with malice as they are tormented and taunted.* *The Kevin's cruel laughter, the bald guy's harsh commands and devious promises, the sound of* *keys jangling ominously*...

*My heart clenches with terror, I feel the chains tightening and hurting me every time I try to move, but I can't stand being close to them, I need to move away, I need to*–

My eyes snap open as if ripped from the depths of this abyss, and I find myself in a starkly different setting. I recognize this place. I look around with some difficulty opening my eyes, and I realize why I recognize this place.

I work here.

I'm in a Diamond Claw hospital room, the room is bathed in a soft glow, the antiseptic scent lingering in the air. Confusion grips me as I struggle to reconcile the nightmare with the wakeful world. It takes a moment to grasp that I'm no longer trapped in that horror place.

Gasping for air, disoriented and trembling, I'm pulled back to reality by the gentle touch of someone's hand. It's only then that I realize I was lost in a twisted labyrinth of my nightmare, unaware that I was merely a prisoner within my own subconscious.

Though I tremble from the remnants of the nightmare, the gentle touch of someone around me offers a glimmer of calm.

I search my eyes for the face of whoever is next to me, "Shh, you're safe now," Jake takes my hand and directs me back to rest my head on the pillow.

I accept his command because my whole body is hurting. I look at my hands and see that my wrists are bandaged.

"What happened? Where's Kaiden?" I ask as I try to calm down because safety surrounds me now.

"He'd like to be here, but he's running some errands," he responds, holding my hand as he makes small circles affectionately with his finger.

But I feel like he's not telling me something.

"How long have I been out?" I ask.

"There's not much time, as soon as Kaiden found you, we came to Diamond Claw. Well, first, we killed almost all the rogues that were in that rotten place," Jake begins explaining. "Afterwards, when we got here, Dr. Smith took care of your injuries. Kaiden stayed here all this time; when Dr. Smith finished, he asked Kaiden to let you rest, so after a lot of reluctance, he went to sort out, uhm, some things."

I'm still having trouble understanding what he's saying, I feel my body still shaking from the nightmare.

My hand goes straight to my stomach, and I look at Jake, "I'm hungry."

He widens his eyes and stands up abruptly from the chair he's sitting next to me, "I'm going to ask someone to bring you something to eat!"

He gets up and leaves the room, I take a glass of water next to me and drink it slowly, I know that if I drink it too quickly, I'll end up vomiting it all again.

After a short time, Jake returns with a tray, "I know you're hungry, but you need to eat some fruit, and slowly, your stomach is very sensitive."

"I know, I can't take any more vomiting," I say, putting my hand over my throat.

Jake places the tray in front of me, and I don't even wait for him to sit down. I start attacking the food he brought, contrary to his recommendation.

"I was so worried about you, Kitkatie," Jake says with both hands on his face, I hear a sniffle and realize he's crying.

"I'm sorry, Jake–"

"That place was so rotten and horrifying, I can't imagine what you went through," he wipes away tears.

"I'm here now. Thank you for going to save me." I try to ignore the images of that place that pop into my head.

"I wasn't the only one, the pack warriors were, too. Also, Ben and Maia came to your rescue, bringing their pack warriors with them," he says with a slight smile.

"What? Are Ben and Maia here? Did they come?" I widen my eyes in surprise and almost choke on the piece of apple. "And Kaiden accepted?"

"Yes," he nods with a smile on his face. "I know, I also almost didn't believe it when he accepted my suggestion to ask Ben for help."

"Do my parents know?" my hand holds where my heart is.

"No, Kaiden didn't let me call them," he responds and I breathe more relieved, "but if we hadn't found you, I would have contacted them the next day."

I chew as I try to assimilate everything he's telling me, "Ben's warriors already went back to his pack, they were very exhausted, but Ben and Maia stayed behind to wait until you woke up," Jake says.

"That's great! I can't wait to see and thank them!" I speak with my mouth full, and Jake shakes his head in disapproval, but I can't help it, I'm hungry for food and eager to know what's going on.

Jake looks at the ground, it's silent for a moment. I touch my hand to his again, "Jake, what's wrong?"

He lifts his head, and his eyes meet mine, "There are some things you need to know, but I don't know if Kaiden would want to tell you first," he confesses.

"Jake, you're scaring me! What happened?" I stop eating and focus all my attention on him. "Is everyone okay?"

He takes a deep breath, looking like he's deciding whether to tell me or not. After a few moments, he makes up his mind, "Kitkatie, it was Chad's fault you were kidnapped."
