Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 190: Book 2 - Chapter 23
“Nox, watch your step!” I scold him from afar. He turns his face towards me abruptly, making his hair swing and touch his face; he gives me a mischievous smile and comes towards me.
As he approaches, he grabs my hand and turns me in the other direction, “We are not going that way—”
I come to a halt in my speech when I grasp what he desires to show me. As I look down, I spot a cluster of three small exquisite wishlove flowers with a yellowish hue discreetly tucked away beside a towering tree. The delicate little petals of the flowers seem to dance in the gentle breeze.
A small smile forms on my lips at the sight of them, and I pick one up, holding it in my hand.
I feel his gaze on my face, and I blush, controlling myself not to look at him. I’m already too attached to him. I can barely contain myself.
All my mind thinks about lately is marking him right where that muscular shoulder of his meets his neck.
“Come on, we’ve already taken too long!” I say and drag him towards the path we were on before.
Before Dana, Letum, and Nige returned to the central cave, we had decided what we would do next.
We determine where to search for materials that we will need to build houses, etc. Although the place Nigel suggests usually has rogues nearby, this place has a very large center that can have everything we need. In addition, most of the people are human, which avoids any suspicion about us.
I don’t have a lot of money. According to my calculations, we won’t be able to buy almost anything. However, I will try to buy what we need that we cannot take from the forest.
It took us a few days to get here, but it was much easier due to the weather. Spring has melted all the winter ice, and the pleasant weather — despite yesterday’s rain — makes everything easier.
Sunlight filters through the trees, and hand in hand, we stroll along the winding path, our footsteps accompanied by the gentle rustle of leaves and the cheerful chirping of birds.
I miss their chirping. But I make sure to stay alert. Even though Tyra hasn’t sensed any threatening presence nearby, I feel like it’s only a matter of time before we find it in this fucking place.
It won’t be long before we get to the city, and we would have gotten there much faster if I could have shifted to Tyra, but I can’t risk her being discovered.
From time to time, Nox strokes his thumb over my hand in circular movements. His touch leaves a trail of spark that goes straight to my clit.
I could ask him to stop, but I’m not strong enough.
‘Stop lying to yourself, human! You know you want him!’ Tyra says, aware of my turmoil, ‘I want him too!’
‘What do you mean?’ I ask in surprise, not believing what she is suggesting.
‘I want him as our chosen mate!’
‘You — What?’
I stop walking abruptly with wide eyes. As I stood there, Prince turned his gaze towards me. His eyes were filled with worry, and I could sense his concern. He inspected my body with a careful eye as if looking for any traces of harm that might have befallen me.
I caress his hand to show that everything is fine, just like the stroke he has been giving me.
‘Tyra... But you said you wanted to wait for our fated mate! You said that—’
‘I don’t have an answer to give you. I just feel like it’s the right thing to do. My instincts want to protect and stay close to him as if he were our fated mate,’ she explains, seeming to try to connect one argument with another but seems as confused as I am. Well, she’s definitely more determined than me.
I feel my soul calm down with her answer.
‘What about all that drama about waiting? Are you sure you haven’t felt this way about Nige before?’ I ask, and she responds quickly without hesitating.
‘Never!’
I sigh and continue walking. I was going to start insisting on talking to her more, but I felt something strange around us. As if someone was watching us.
‘Are you feeling the same?’ I ask her, unconsciously squeezing Prince’s hand with a little more pressure than before.
‘Yes. To our left. Just one,’ she says seriously without emotion, long gone the soft way Tyra was talking about the Nox.
I quicken my pace. If it’s just one, there’s no danger; we just have to continue on our way quickly and get off this threat’s radar.
Prince quickens his pace with me, and we start to almost run, but without showing and attracting too much attention we are running away.
Fuck. I scent the rotten stink of rogue. Rogue*s*.
I feel at least six in front of us, making it impossible for us to continue the path we were following.
‘To our right! There are two more!’ Tyra growls.
It was a bad idea to choose this place to buy these things. I should have trusted my guts.
‘What if we go back?’ I ask Tyra, stopping walking and looking back.
I concentrate on feeling everyone around us. I focus on knowing how many there are.
However, I hear a muffled voice on my right, far from where we are, saying to the other two rogues, “... It’s going to be so fucking easy to catch the guy...”
What the fuck?
Instinctively, I put my arm around Nox, ‘Tyra, they already know we’re here. They’re going to attack us!’
‘We can’t shift! If they find out you’re a red wolf, we’re lost!’
‘We need to run then!’
I grab Prince’s hand firmly and start running back in the direction we came. It takes him a while to understand my sudden change, but he keeps up with me quickly.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
We were so close!
I’m outnumbered!
I feel them move and hear them start running towards us. They haven’t shifted yet. They must think we’re an easy target!
‘We need to disperse them and attack when they are at least in groups of three,’ Tyra begins working on our escape route.
My hands start to sweat, and adrenaline runs through my blood when I hear them getting even closer.
Nox runs extraordinarily fast, he has no trouble keeping up with me, he realized that we were being followed, I saw the moment he realized when he looked back, and his body tensed.
This path I chose was supposed to have the least number of rogues. How fucking unlucky we are!
I change the direction we’re going when I realize that in front of us, there are rogues, too; their rotten smell seems to be more mature and stinky than the ones behind. I can feel that they possessed a dark and sinister aura.
Why would these rogues be roaming around here right now, for Goddess’ sake?
I didn’t want to, but I ended up going on a path near a steep mountain; I know there’s a cave not so far from here where we can hide, but something tells me we won’t get there in time without first killing at least four motherfuckers.
I stop running when I see a place where Nox can be safe behind a massive tree near the bottom of the rocky mountain.
I head towards the location and position Nox, “Stay here!” I use my Alpha aura to command him.
I can feel the terror in his gaze crawling on my own skin as I release my hand from his.
I move away from him to attack the two fuckers who are closest to us.
I start to analyze the best way to attack based on the territory I am in. However, I’m caught off guard when I hear an ominous voice filled with sinister jubilation not so far away from us, one of the rogues talking to not just one but seven other rogues who are close to him, *“...They stopped running, it was easier than he said it would be!”*
