Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 175: Book 2 - Chapter 8
***The Healer***
After walking continuously for a whole day, we finally arrived close to the cave where Letum and Dana are.
I felt a pang of guilt for forcing Prince to walk fast and not stop. Prince’s face was etched with exhaustion, and his breaths came out ragged. Each step seemed to take a toll on him, and I knew that I was pushing him too hard, but it would be worse if we didn’t come that way.
His improvised ‘boots’ that I made are already completely ruined. He will definitely need something more resistant. Despite the brutal and exhausting walk, he never uttered a single complaint, nor did he ever release my hand.
We are almost arriving at the cave entrance when I see Letum and Dana approaching where we are in another direction. She has some sticks piled in her arms, and Letum has his arms crossed.
Even from afar, I hear her shouting angrily at him, *“I never said I wanted you to go, Letum!”* she tightens her grip on the sticks, “I could have gone alone!” He shrugs and remains silent, as he always is.
When Dana sees me, she smiles, but it disappears as soon as she sees Prince. Letum remains with a straight face, and I notice him speeding up his pace to get to me faster.
Unconsciously, my body moves slightly in front of Prince, and as soon as I realize my new stance, I look at Letum again, and he arches an eyebrow. Dana is saying something, but I don’t pay much attention; Dana is always saying something, keeping her quiet is the real challenge.
As soon as they get close, Dana takes a deep breath to ask the millions of questions she wants, but I put a hand in front of her, stopping her, “Not here! Let’s talk inside.”
“Okay,” she says and enters the cave. Letum follows her, and so do I. However, I see Prince standing at the cave entrance, so I go to him, “For Goddess’ sake!” I murmur, hold his hand, and take him with me.
Dana places the sticks not far from the small bonfire and turns to me, and I abruptly let go of Prince’s hand. “Can you explain to me what this guy is doing next to you? I literally know the same people you know. I don’t remember meeting someone as hot as him before,” she says with a smile as she points with the tip of her chin in Prince’s direction.
Letum looks at her with wide eyes because she talks like that. I’m not even surprised anymore because this is typical Dana.
I try to answer her, but she interrupts me, asking more questions, “Wait for a second! He didn’t even react to what I said!” She approaches him and waves her hand in front of his face. “Do you understand what I’m saying?” she looks at me confused, “I think this human is broken,” I look at Prince, and he takes his eyes off Dana and looks at me confused, then he holds my hand.
I hear Dana and Letum hold their breath, surprised by what Prince did and even more waiting for my reaction.
“Oh my Goddess! Is he your fated mate?” Dana asks with her mouth shaped like an ‘o’.
“Can you let me talk, you crazy?” I talk to her and abruptly let my hand go from Prince’s. I don’t want them to think I’m taking advantage of him.
I don’t even need to look at him to know that he has sad eyes right now. I take a deep breath and run my hand over my face before I start explaining to them. “I have something much more important to inform you guys, but–”
“Who is he?” Dana interrupts me. As always, she is very animated when talking.
“Can you shut up for a minute?” I yell at her.
“Okay, okay, sorry, continue...” she says with a step back.
“He is not my fated mate,” my heart breaks from saying those words out aloud, “I found him on the ground unconscious when I was patrolling the northern region. I healed him.”
I feel Dana opening her mouth to start asking something, and I stop her with my glare. “When he woke up, I asked him who he was and where he was from, but he didn’t say a single word. He didn’t seem like he could understand what I was saying, so I decided to bring him with me because otherwise, he would freeze to death.”
Letum smirks, still with his arms crossed. He’s a little taller than me, but he’s still shorter than Prince. He looks at Prince’s clothes, and then his green eyes hover over me to ask, “Was he naked when you found him?”
Dana giggles, “I bet they took a shower together–”
“You got to be kidding me!” I run my hand through my hair, interrupting her. “For Goddess’ sake! That’s all you got from what I said?”
They both smile even more with my reaction, looking at Prince behind me.
“You have to admit, you don’t ever bring anyone home. The only situation where it might occur is if the person you’re bringing home is your fated mate,” Dana says, trying to control herself from laughing. She wears her black hair in two tight braids. She only leaves her curly hair down when she is in the central cave.
“I couldn’t leave him there. There was no one around. In fact, that’s one of the reasons I had to come here as quickly as possible.”
Dana gets even closer to Prince, touching his hair. I grind my teeth, suddenly feeling angry at her for touching him. “Wow! His hair is so soft, look at this,” she says as she touches the tips of his hair. “He’s so tall, so strong, he looks like a–”
“Prince, I know,” I say through gritted teeth, trying to control my angry tone.
She flashes me a grin, “I was going to say an Alpha!”
Letum scoffs at my reaction, “But he’s human. He can’t be an Alpha,” he enunciates words very precisely like he always says. It’s a little annoying, but I’m already used to the way he talks.
I can’t tell them he’s not human because I’m still unsure if that’s true.
“And what are you going to do with him now?” Dana asks. She puts her hands on her hips.
“Prince will stay with us,” I say firmly.
She takes her hands off her hips and says, “Prince?” Dana and Letum look at each other.
“Suits him,” Letum shrugs.
“I know, right?” I relax my shoulders, and they both continue to look at me strangely. I clear my throat, “Anyway, he’s going to live with us until I decide what to do with him. Maybe he’ll be able to talk in a few days,” I pretend I don’t care.
At that exact moment, Prince holds my hand again. As his fingers wrap around my hand once again, I can sense his unease. Without hesitation, I clutch onto his hand tightly, refusing to let it go this time.
“Nigel is going to be so fucking jealous,” Dana says, and she turns around and starts adding more sticks to the fire.
“I don’t care what Nige – Nigel – thinks,” I say as I let go of Prince’s hand and take my backpack off his back.
Letum sits on the floor near the fire, and then Dana does the same.
Nige used to come with us, but he doesn’t come any more after what happened... Fuck, I prefer it this way. At least I don’t need to see him naked because I know we can’t sleep together anymore.
It’s more than enough just Dana, Letum, and me. Dana is a great warrior, and she is more than eager for us to stop taking these trips because she just wants to be around her mate, Kyrie. Dana has already marked her mate, so she always has to go back to the central cave to see her so she doesn’t go mad. They can’t be apart for a long time.
Unlike Dana, Letum hasn’t found out his fated mate. He is also an excellent warrior; he is silent in everything he does. I’m proud to say that Letum will be the future Gamma of my pack.
I lower myself down to the floor and pull Prince with me. He obeys, and follows suit, and takes a seat beside me. As soon as he sits down, his huge hand finds its way to my thigh. His touch sends a comforting sensation through my body.
I ignore Letum and Dana’s curious looks. What I have to say to them is more important. Images of the place where I met Prince begin to appear in my mind.
“Our mission has come to an end!” I start to explain to them, and they look at me with surprised faces. “We no longer need to search for any territory. What’s left of our pack will finally have a place to live permanently because I found the perfect place for our pack to settle down and call home.”
