Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 176: Book 2 - Chapter 9
"AAH! I can't believe it!" Dana celebrates and hugs Letum. His cheeks flush, and he hugs her back, but she realizes that she is hugging him and lets go of the hug as if he were a disease. "Tell us all about this place!"
Having a red wolf has its advantages, but the danger of being hunted that comes with it is definitely not one of them. After the Bloodmoon pack discovered I had a red wolf, they invaded and annihilated our pack just to search for me. My parents managed to get some families out in time, and once we were in a safer place, I was able to heal them.
Because of me, my pack lost not only its territory but also many of its members. I have carried this guilt in my heart ever since.
After a lot of trouble moving several times, my father found a cave that could fit the 12 remaining families as a temporary place. Most of the people who survived are elderly, so there's no way they can keep moving all the time like a nomad.
The cave has the minimum to survive, but it is very uncomfortable to live in. I couldn't bear to see them in that situation anymore, so I decided it was high time they had their territory back.
I gathered three of our warriors, and since then, we have been tirelessly looking for a new place to live.
My father tried to stop me, but he knew that it was my duty as the Alpha's daughter – I needed to save my pack. I don't want them to just survive. I want them to live and live abundantly.
I feel awful that they are in this situation. This is all my fault. All this because no one revealed that I have a red wolf.
My parents stay in the central cave, they hunt and protect what's left of the members, keeping them hidden from any danger while we try to find new territory. I couldn't disappoint them. When I said that I was going to find a new place for us to live, everyone was excited with a sparkle in their eyes.
Although the new location I found is quite far from where the central cave is, my parents had been to this location before because it was where she was buried.
Her death was my fault... After her death, I changed completely. I feel that my joy died along with her.
I raise my right hand with a closed fist and open my thumb to emphasize, "I found a hidden place," I raise up my index finger, Dana holds her breath as she looks at me intently. "Where there aren't any packs for miles around," I raise my middle finger, Letum looks at me as attentively as Dana, without blinking. "It's difficult to get there," I lift up my ring finger. "I think no one has been to that region in years," I say, widening my confident smile as I raise my pinky and wave all the fingers, "and the territory has fertile soil!"
"That's perfect!" Letum says as he lets out a breath.
"Oh. My. Goddess! It's happening! I'll finally get my beautiful mate out of that cave!" Dana says excitedly. Letum smiles, also happy.
I feel as if Goddess Selena herself was telling me that this was our future home. That little light... that was a *sign*!
I look at Prince, who is staring at the fire with a void gaze, still with his hand on my thigh. I hold his hand, and he looks at me and smiles. That's where I found him, and that's where we'll live. It's a perfect place.
After a few more hours, we decided to sleep as our trip back to the central cave will be very long.
Letum is the one who carries the most things with him, so I took the extra blanket that was in his backpack for Prince and me to cover ourselves.
"I'll take the first shift," I tell them. We can't sleep without at least one person awake.
Sleeping on the hard floor hurts my back, but I'm used to it. I sit on the floor and lean my back against the cave wall. Prince sits next to me, but I push him to lie down, and he does so, resting his head on my lap.
I pull the blanket up around us both. Under the blanket, he pulls me even closer to him, hugging my hips. I giggle when I feel his hands around me.
Dana is not so far from where I am, and she is the first to sleep; I hear the sound of Letum snoring next.
I keep looking at the cave entrance, still on alert. Everyone in my pack will be so happy when we tell them the news.
Prince also falls asleep, and I find myself stroking his hair with a smile on my face.
After about two hours, I start to hear Dana whimpering. She must be having a nightmare again because she's far away from Kyrie. She starts to move from side to side, hogging her blanket, and before I get up to wake her up, I see Letum, with his own blanket in his hand, going towards her with his angry face.
He lies down next to her and puts his arm around her waist. Dana turns to him and presses her face on his chest. After a few moments, she ends up calming down, and I no longer hear her whining, just sleeping.
The two of them are always fighting; if anyone told me what just happened, I would have scoffed and said it was a lie.
I look into Letum's eyes at the same time he looks into mine, and I raise an eyebrow but don't say anything.
'Shut up, Lexi,' he says via mindlink.
'I didn't say anything,' I reply, chuckling.
After a few hours, Letum wakes up right when I was going to wake him up because it's his turn to stay awake. He goes back to the spot where he was sleeping earlier since Dana is no longer having nightmares, and I take the opportunity to happily take a nap snuggled in Prince's huge arms.
I hug him to warm him up, *of course*.
🐺 🐺 🐺
I hear noise around me, but I only wake up when I feel Prince's hand caress my hair. Ugh. With his hands caressing me, I won't want to get up.
Before he continues his pat, I hear Dana whisper to him, "No! She's going to–"
I open my eyes. Prince is still stroking my hair, and Dana is still lying in bed. She looks at me, confused.
"Wait–" Dana says curiously, but I interrupt her via mindlink.
'Don't.'
'Why didn't you wake up squeezing his throat like you usually do?' she asks me via mindlink, crossing her arms.
I look away. I don't know what to say to her. When I attacked her when she tried to wake me up, it was as instinctive as now.
I ignore her and get up. Prince also gets up, and we start putting the things we use back in the backpacks.
"Where's Letum?" Dana asks angrily. I look at her, and she is smelling her blanket, "Why on earth does my blanket smell like you, Letum?"
Letum enters the cave with an unreadable expression. "I don't know what you're talking about," he announces each word.
"Don't touch my things! Stay away from me, Letum!" Dana glares at him as she folds her blanket. She gets even angrier from Letum's reaction or lack of reaction. It doesn't even seem like Dana is saying anything to him.
"Can you two not fight for at least the morning?" I speak with my hand on the bridge of my nose. "We need to get something to eat. The way back is going to be long."
"There's a lake nearby, I can go there with you–"
"No!" I interrupt Letum. "Stay here and get everything ready to go. Let's eat and then set off on our way," I speak with my Alpha aura.
"Yes, Alpha," they both say in unison.
"Take care of Prince, I'll be back soon." I leave, and Prince starts following me and holds my hand, caressing it with his thumb.
I'm a little embarrassed by his display of affection in front of Letum and Dana. Prince acts innocently, he doesn't know how much his simple actions affect me. Fuck, Prince, I need to wait for my fated mate. Stop teasing me.
"Stay here, I'll be back," I tell him with my Alpha aura, too. He looks at me with sad eyes and obeys. His doe eyes peer down at me, and it's hard not to fall under their spell.
Fuck. I can't see him with this look.
Something inside me tells me not to go, to stay with him, take care of him, take off his clothes, wait, *what*?
I quickly leave the cave without looking back. Otherwise, I'll end up giving up.
🐺 🐺 🐺
After catching two big fish, I return happily to the cave.
Will Prince like roasted fish like he liked the rabbit meat I made for him? I can't wait to see if he'll feed me again...
What am I thinking?
Why in the world I'm connecting every single thing with him?
I mentally slap myself, but something more urgent catches my attention. I hear noises around me and stop immediately.
All the smiles vanished from my face as my eyes went wide with alarm.
I look ahead and see Letum talking to Dana and Prince next to them in front of the cave, not so far from where I am.
I smell the rotten stench of rogues before I see them. I throw the fishes on the ground and run as fast as I can because eight giant wolves are running towards the cave to attack them.
