Thirteen fucking years waiting for a mate to find out that she’s human!

Due to her being human, she must not have felt our bond. It ensured that she remained blissfully ignorant of the bond we shared. The cruel irony of our bond was not lost on me; while I was tethered to her in a way she couldn’t comprehend, the cruel truth remained — she didn’t even realize she was my fated mate, and *I intended to keep it that way*.

‘No, you won’t! I want her! She’s mine!’ Troy growled.

‘Are you blind? She’s human!’ I yelled at him as I scooped up some snow that was under my hand and threw it in the air angrily.

‘She felt the bond, too. I saw it in her eyes! She is special!’ he said in love. For fuck’s sake!

When I went to get more snow to throw in the air, I realized something. I was supposed to be hurt. Why am I not hurt?

‘She must have taken care of us while we were unconscious,’ Troy suggested.

‘And what can a human like her do? Don’t be stupid,’ I snapped.

How did I get better from those injuries? I was supposed to be bleeding now. Why am I feeling good?

I lifted my pants to check, and there wasn’t even a sign of injury, much less a scar. What if any of those spells that the witch tried are working right now? I don’t know what happened, but I feel better than ever.

I need to reject this human as soon as possible and choose a she-wolf Luna to participate in the tournament. No one can know that she is my mate.

‘You’re not going to do that! Make no mistake! If you do that, I will abandon you, and you will be wolfless. This way, it will be impossible for you to compete in the tournament. You decide! If you reject her, I reject you!’ Troy growled in a way I’d never seen before.

‘Troy, try to understand! She’s not fit to be a Luna!’

‘Are you crazy? She is perfect! She took care of us without ever knowing who you were. She may be human, but she is our mate. She was made to be ours... You didn’t feel anything when Chad held her hands?’ he cornered me.

‘Do not be stupid! I wanted to rip him apart right there. She may be human, but she’s *my* mate, and only *I* can touch her,’ I stated as I ran my hand through my hair, pushing my hair back.

‘Ah-ha! I knew you felt the bond, too!’ Troy teased.

Certainly, I felt... She looks like an angel. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life; her face is so angelic. When I was looking at her, I was memorizing every part of her face. I wanted to kiss her pink lips, the freckles around her cheeks are so beautiful... everything about her is just graceful.

Nevertheless, I really got lost in her eyes. The green of her eyes made her red hair even redder. When she smiled, it looked like her green eyes were greener than ever.

I felt bad for treating her so coldly and rudely, but I couldn’t tell her that she was my mate.

I suddenly stopped to think of something. She is the human that Chad talked about! She is the selfish one who is only with Chad for his Gamma status and his money. I remember he said that she also comes from a small pack. Fuck.

There are so many humans for me to be a mate, and I’m going to be a mate for such a greedy person?

‘She’s not like that, asshole! You don’t even know her, and you’re already judging her,’ Troy defended her.

Obviously, he doesn’t mind her being human. He’s a wolf, an animal, he just has primitive and possessive thoughts.

‘I won’t choose her as my Luna,’ I made up my mind.

‘I will not accept a chosen mate,’ he snarled.

‘Troy, we need to choose a mate good enough to win the tournament. She sure as hell doesn’t fit in!’ I tried to explain the obvious to him.

‘I will not accept a chosen mate,’ he repeated. What a stubborn wolf!

‘We’re going to stick with the initial plan, we’re going to evaluate the options, and then we’ll decide,’ I said.

‘Nobody’s going to be better than her,’ he snarled.

For Goddess’ sake! I need a lot of patience to deal with this fucking wolf!

‘Troy, let’s see the options first, then you tell me what you think. Even if we find someone very good to side with us in the competition, we can reject her after we win the tournament,’ I suggested out the initial plan.

‘I do not accept that! Before meeting her, you had convinced me because I had already been waiting for our mate for a long time. I even understood your situation, but now we know who she is. The Goddess Selena was so good to us that she sent our mate when we needed it most, and you want to reject her like that?’ Troy whimpered.

‘Let’s try my plan first, then we’ll think about it, ok?’ I tried to ignore his pleas.

I’ve never seen him so sad like that. I feel even more miserable for this whole situation and for him being like this.

I hurriedly walked towards my office because I knew that Chad and Jason were already waiting for me. As I walked down the hall, I could see through the window that the sun was already starting to set.

As the sun began to set, the sky was filled with hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a warm and colorful glow on the snow-covered landscape. I could see the snow-covered trees standing tall and proud, their branches draped in blankets of snow, creating a picturesque scene. As the sun dropped lower in the sky, the shadows cast by the trees became longer and more pronounced, creating a sense of depth and contrast to the scene.

I couldn't get her out of my mind as I admired the landscape. After our brief encounter, I came to the packhouse. When I was walking in, I could feel the fear of everyone around me when they saw me because I had blood on my face and body. I'm sure they thought I killed someone last night.

I shook my head, seeing their reaction while they greeted me as I went straight to my room, took a shower, and put on clean clothes. I tried talking to Troy several times, but he just ignored me.

When I entered the office, Chad and Jason were already fighting as usual, but this time, when they saw me, they stopped.

"Troy isn't talking to me because I'm fucking choosing a mate," I told them, but I didn't say I found my mate. I don't want to tell them now, especially with Chad dating her.

"He abandoned you?" Jason worriedly asked as I sat down in my chair across from them.

"No, but he won't be part of the selection, and also, he only accepted it because I promised not to mark the chosen one. Besides, I'll need to reject her after winning the tournament," I stated.

"That sucks! Who's going to accept those terms?" Jason snorted.

"What if we made a contract with the chosen one? She would already know what to expect!" Chad suggested.

"That's why you're my Gamma, Chad!" I proudly said as I pointed at him. It's a great idea that prevents any kind of bond that this female might expect from me and still solves the problem with Troy because I won't have to choose and mark someone to reject later. I will be in a contract with an expiration date. That's fucking genius!

"I'm going to start writing a perfect contract with all the possible variables to make it impossible to be denied, Kaiden. Don't worry!" Chad said with twinkling eyes.

"Well, we selected some people..." Jason said, looking at Chad. I didn't understand why he took a long pause while waiting for his approval. When Chad nodded, Jason handed me some papers he had in his hand.

As he was handing me the papers, I saw that Chad took a deep breath and clenched his jaw, but he didn't say anything. Jason just shrugged and didn't care too much about his reaction.

I picked it up and started flipping through the papers and putting each card next to the other.

"We selected all possible mates from the pack and neighboring packs. My criteria were status, money, strength, beauty, education, and age, among other things." While Chad was talking, I was looking at the candidates' points, and I have to admit, he did a rigorous evaluation.

"There are few girls who don't fit these criteria because many already have mates or only had two of those five main criteria. After excluding those who didn't have a very high score, just three possible candidates left." Jason explained. He looked apprehensively at Chad and then handed me the paper with the information on the three candidates.

I fucking understood why.

I understood why Jason was apprehensive about Chad and why Chad was downcast.

The first candidate is named Katherine Wright, the second is Dana Collins, and the third is Ava Phillips.

Katherine Wright? Was that Katie's full name?

I ignored the other two candidates and focused on Katherine's information. She ticked almost all the boxes — daughter of Alpha, rich, works at the Hospital, in her 20s, among other information. It couldn't be Katie. Katie is human.

"Who is this first candidate? Which pack is she from? She looks perfect," I asked, looking at both of them.

"Kaiden..." Jason started to speak and looked at Chad.

"What the fuck is going on between you two? Why are you acting like this?" I snapped at them. I was already impatient with this situation.

"It's my fault, Kaiden. I didn't know that this first candidate was Chad's girlfriend. I put her on the list without knowing it, and by coincidence, she surpassed all the other candidates, even though she was human." Jason said.
