***Katherine***

After the child was unconsciously discarded in my dirty room. With a heavy heart, I crept over to check on her, dreading what I might discover.

The sight that greeted me was devastating. She was dirtier than me and much more injured; her small, fragile body bore the brutal marks of torment. At least two of her ribs were fractured, and her pulse was very weak, very far from normal.

As I inch closer, my trembling hands reached out. I tried to use my power, but I was very weak; I couldn't do anything. I just stayed close to her, trying to share my body heat with her because she was very cold.

After hours, the bald guy entered the room again and threw a piece of hard bread toward me; he didn't even bother to enter the room; he threw it from the door.

The bread hit my head, which made my head go back, and when I turned to see where the bread had stopped, I suppressed my anger.

The bread hovered right where I peed on the floor, as the bucket was already full.

The pee has not yet dried completely, so the bread is not only hard, but now has pee on it.

Ugh!

I don't wait for him to close the door, but I hear the sound of it closing when I try to move towards the bread, trying to reach the meagre food.

I pick up the bread with my tied hands, which are also dirty, and bring the bread to my mouth.

At the first bite, I want to vomit, the bread is so hard that it hurt my teeth, and the stench of pee permeated it.

However, I ignore it and eat it as quickly as I can, leaving just a small piece for the child.

As soon as I finish eating, I take a deep breath, my mouth is even drier now that I've eaten the bread.

I crawl back to the child to try to use my power on her.

I take a deep breath to concentrate and calm down, just dragging myself left me panting.

I analyze my injuries.

*That wasn't as bad as I'd feared,* I try to lie to myself, and hold out my hands over the kid's wound. Warmth rises within my hands after some time, like a memory of the summer in this cold, dirty room, and as I feel my power guide my hands within her body.

It flows along blood and sinew and bone, knitting and mending, listening to the aches and fever now running rampant.

Soothing them, calming them. Wiping them away.

As soon as I feel the child being healed, I take my hands off her and turn to the other side and vomit everything I ate and what I didn't eat.

My hands, which were warm from using my gift, are now shaking, even weaker.

I suspect the bread was mouldy. However, I don't regret eating it because at least I managed to heal this child.

She opens her eyes and looks at the ceiling, scared, and then her eyes go from me to the room.

I feel panic starting to form in her chest, rising and falling with her breathing.

"Shh! It's going to be okay," I tell her, but I feel the bitter taste of my vomit mixed with my lie in my mouth.

It's not going to be okay. We're probably going to die here.

Kaiden won't find me. It's been days. They must have given up on me.

I swallow the lump in my throat.

I didn't see when she got up, but the child is on the other side with the piece of bread that I didn't eat in her hand, she bites it and eats it as if it were the best thing in the world.

I think she's been here for days, too.

I was about to ask her what her name was, however, the bedroom door was thrown open once and for all, and Kevin came in after not appearing here for days.

Terror returns to my body at the sight of him. I cringe, remembering the promises he made to me about what he would do to me and to the little girl.

"I can't stand this rotten stench," the bald guy enters the room after Kevin.

"Please let me empty the bucket–"

"No! Let me go, please, stop!" The child starts to scream and kick when Kevin pulls her by the arm without any difficulty despite her hitting him.

"I like it when they scream; it gives me more pleasure," he says, laughing at the bald guy; my stomach turns, and I want to vomit again.

"Let her go, please, let her stay here with me, please," I yank myself in the direction he's dragging her.

However, The bald guy delivers a forceful kick to my ribs and an explosion of agony sears through me. I'm violently thrust to the ground, my body crashing against the hard surface with a sickening thud. The impact jars my chained arm, amplifying the excruciating pain shooting up its length.

As I sprawl on the unforgiving ground, the sharp pang of pain intensifies, radiating from my fractured ribs. Every breath becomes a torment, each movement sending a jolt of anguish through my body.

I gasp for air, the sensation of being winded adding to the overwhelming torment. As I collapse, my face crashes against the unyielding floor, a surge of metallic taste flooding my mouth as the impact grazes my chin, heralding the onset of bleeding.

I turn to look at him, my eyes with tears, I can't take it anymore.

"Please, no, leave her here!" I beg when I see Kevin leaving the room and the child screaming for him to let her go.

Moon Goddess, I don't know what to do. Help us!

However, my prayers are interrupted. I am surprised by all the pee that has been in the bucket for days.

The bald guy dumps the entire contents of the bucket on me. In fright, I open my mouth, and pee enters my mouth, and I vomit at the same time.

My body shakes in panic. I can not take it anymore.

Why are they doing this? Why am I here?

"Why?" I ask, tired of staying silent and being a good prisoner.

"Because I can," he responds, cruelly smiling at my state, "I need to get out of here. You stink so bad!"

You don't say!

He leans close to my ear, his breath hot and sour, "Now, pray really hard, redhead, because if you pray hard enough, maybe it will be Kevin and not me who will break you later... You'll wish it was him," he says with a wicked look and leaves the room waving his hand and covering his nose.

If he can't even handle the stench, how do they expect me to, for Goddess' sake?

After some time of crying desperately, the bedroom door opens again; this time, it's not the bald guy or Kevin; it's another guy but with the same wicked smile.

He looks at me, and then he shifts into a brown wolf with black paws, and then he comes towards me.

Any chance he could be secretly a vegan?
