Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 52
Even in the face of imminent demise, Troy summoned the last remnants of his primal power. With a surge of adrenaline, he fought back against the rogues with a newfound determination. Claw met claw, and fang clashed with fang as he unleashed his remaining strength.
The rogues fell before him, their bodies crumbling under the might of his onslaught. Victory seemed within Troy's grasp as the last rogue struggled to stand, weakened and wounded.
Before Troy could deliver the final blow, I saw that everyone except the female rogue was dead. I shifted to my human form so I could speak to her.
She was lying on the ground, the wounds so deep that the final blow could be a mere slap.
"Why did you attack me?" I commanded coldly. She was dying, but she started laughing in defiance. "I can make your fucking death worse. Is that what you want? I would like that," I said with a cruel smile.
She looked scared at me and stopped smiling, "I was told to kill you. He will never let you be king," she said softly, and her voice trailed off until I saw the life in her eyes slip away as she rested her head to the side.
Who doesn't want me to be king?
This answer is easy: Everyone.
However, who is determined to attack me to avoid this at all costs and why are the big questions.
I pushed those thoughts aside so I could focus on the battle. There are still two days to fight, and I need to focus on finishing this first task.
'Chad, where are you?' I asked by mindlink, I had left him in charge of half of our group.
'Charlotte, how are you over there?' I asked her who was with the other half of the group.
'We're all together to the east. Charlotte is here with me,' Chad replied, and so I went to them. I shifted and let Troy take over.
Together, we continued the battle, we covered kilometers of distance in search of the rogues.
The second supervisor was already exhausted, he had to replace the first supervisor, he didn't imagine that we were going to be so determined. He couldn't stand it and asked someone to take turns with him.
Finally, as the fading night painted the horizon, the battle neared its climax. I'm now standing amidst defeated rogues.
I took a moment to survey the aftermath of our relentless assault. The ground was littered with the fallen, a testament to my unwavering determination.
None of my warriors were killed in battle. That, for me, is more than a victory.
With the mission accomplished, Troy howled triumphantly into the sunrise, followed by my warriors, primal howls that echoed through the wilderness. We had emerged victorious, our journey was marked by bloodshed that served its purpose.
I ordered the warriors to start carrying the rogues' bodies to the Crescent Moon pack, and so they did as they were told while I stayed behind with Chad to double-check one last territory before the round ended.
I'm not gonna lie, I wanted that moment with Chad alone. I need to talk to him now more than ever.
After noticing that there was no more time to do anything, Chad and I decided to go back, but halfway through, we stopped to talk.
"I need to talk to you about Katie," I said firmly.
He was silent, he just waited for me to continue. In his eyes, I could see fear. I know what I'm about to say will break his heart, and I feel terrible about it. Chad is like a brother to me, it would be so much easier if he was someone I didn't know, that way I would only need to steal my mate, and that's it.
But with him, I can't do that. He is my brother.
"It's about Katie," I said hesitantly.
"So, let me guess, you realize she's wonderful, and you're an idiot bastard, and now you want to tell her that she's your mate?" he questioned in a hard to decipher tone, but I'm his Alpha, I can feel he's in pain just for saying it out loud.
"Well, I wouldn't put it in those words-" I said, smirking.
"And which ones would you put it on?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Hmm... I guess I would put in those words," we both laughed, and I continued. "I need her. It took me a long time to realize how much Katie means to me. It took me a long time to find her, and now that I found her, I can't reject her, and I don't want to either... Our bond is killing me. I need to be on her side. I need to be with her," I confessed.
He widened his eyes in surprise, he's never seen me express my feelings like this. "Wow, I didn't expect all that from you," he said in a slightly haggard voice.
"I'm sorry about-" he cut me off.
"It's ok, Kaiden. To tell you the truth, I was hoping that you would keep rejecting her until the end of the tournament, then I would mark her, and all that would be in the past. But part of me could never stand in your way with your mate," he said with his head down in a sad voice. We fell silent, and he continued, "I don't like Katie. I love her. I hope you're not mean to her. I hope you treat her well. Katie deserves the best that you can offer. That's all I ask for you."
I didn't answer him for a moment, I didn't know what to say. Troy was already counting down the seconds to meet Katie, to show himself to her, to mark her.
Interrupting my thoughts, Chad asks. "When are you going to tell her?"
"As soon as they announce the first round winners," I replied excitedly.
"Then I'll talk to her later," he said crestfallen, not knowing what to say, I simply told him that we proceed with our journey towards the Crescent Moon pack.
Also, because it's almost noon and now I need to win two things: First place in the first round and my mate's heart, *whether she wants it or not*.
