***The Traveler***

The air is thick with the intoxicating scent of newly budding flowers, setting the perfect backdrop for the impending clash.

Our fur bristles with defiance, muscles tense, and eyes ablaze with wrath.

I stand tall, not with two feet, but with four legs.

My unwavering aura exudes a power that they cannot comprehend, leaving them cowering in fear. But then, in vain, their eyes hungrily glare at me, their pathetic growls nothing but feeble attempts to intimidate.

I remain unshaken, my confidence unwavering, my instincts sharper than their filthy claws. I fear no challenge.

I don't know what is going on or what happened to my body. I have this unsettling feeling that there is something important missing in my life, but I can't seem to put my finger on what exactly it is that's missing. However, I don't feel like now is the right time to delve into it and figure out what's causing this feeling. I am not in the right headspace to do so.

Something takes over my body and changes it into a strange shape that I have never seen before. Strangely, though, it feels like it's mine — as if it's an integral part of who I am.

This powerful force that made me shift was instigated by my girl. When my eyes fell upon her, sprawled on the ground, barely clinging to life, a wave of despair washed over me. It pierced through my soul when my eyes met hers. I couldn't control my instincts.

Something exploded inside me, and out of nowhere, all my wounds were no longer painful, and all my broken bones were in the right place.

Cream golden fur grew where there was skin. Claws and fangs appeared on my body wildly, ready to kill any threat against her.

The first two challengers make their move, a clumsy attempt to test my resolve. With a casual sidestep, I evade the attack, almost amused by their predictability. In a swift motion, I retaliate, my fangs sinking effortlessly into the flank of my foolish adversaries.

Two pained howls fill the air as blood spills onto the forest ground.

Undeterred by their futile attempts, the other rogues close in. Their chaotic movements exude desperation. They think their numbers will overwhelm me, that their combined strength will break me as they all attack me at once.

How little they understand the essence of *true* power!

My movements are calculated and precise with each clash.

Their weak attempts to bring me down only fuel my resolve, but what ignites a fire within me that burns brighter with every blow is the fact they hurt *my girl*.

The forest reverberates with the sound of their cry of defeat as bone-crushing bites and powerful swipes mark my every retaliation.

They attack me with all their predictable anger. To their despair, I casually dodge, and then I attack the rogues in a rhythm they can't keep up with.

'I should have waited, but I couldn't! I find myself unable to bear the pain of witnessing my fated mate in such a state! *I need to protect her*!'

I hear a voice growl in my head. Hell!

Maybe I've gone crazy?

As two other wolves lunge, I sense their intentions before their move. With a speedy sidestep, I evade their attack, seizing the opportunity to deliver a punishing blow to its flank. The morning sunlight caught the glint of my retaliatory strike. The yelp that follows is like a damn award.

I try to speak again with the wild voice in my head, but it's in vain! The voice doesn't answer me.

Yeah, I'm definitely crazy.

The others, undeterred by the corpses on the ground in defeat, press on with ferocity. They come at me from all sides, yellowish fangs bared and filthy claws. But I am more powerful than any of them, fighting back between their strikes with grace and precision. They meet my aggression, but they can't match my savagery with each blow.

I tilt my head to look at my girl naked, injured, and bloody on the ground.

She was — is — so brave, to say the least.

My damn heart hurts, and I become more possessed by my anger. By my wrath.

The last ones approach me, two pairs of enraged eyes, fangs bared, aiming for my throat. I sidestep with agility, meeting their attack with a swift counter. My jaw clamps steadfastly down on their flank and neck, one by one until their pathetic whimper fills the air.

The filthy blood stains on my fur are the price I paid for my triumph.

I glare at all the corpses on the ground — this is the fucking irrevocable fate of those who dare hurt my girl.

As the sun hangs high in the sky, only silence remains, broken only by the rhythmic beat of my heart.

Suddenly, the wild voice echoes in my head again and then fades away. It's so brief that I almost thought I had imagined saying, 'When the time comes, you will remember...'

And then my head starts to hurt so badly that everything around me starts to go dark.

I began to feel hopeless because the last time I remember feeling this pain, I was totally lost.

A howl of pain shudders from my chest, and the last thing I can think to do is run closer to her. At least there's no one else trying to attack her anymore.

Everything spins around me, and I feel something change around me, and suddenly, I no longer have four legs but two.

My body collapses onto the ground once again, and I start to feel all the pain in my head that I ignored to try to protect her. It's too intense! A sense of despair courses through my veins.

As I try not to pass out from the pain, I look at my girl with my eyes partially open.

She's hurt, yet my girl gazes at me, holding a tender expression I've never seen from her before.

I hope she keeps looking at me like this forever.
