Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 45

Everything was calm in the hospital, I had seen almost all my patients, and there was little time left for my shift to end.

I'm tired, I just want to get home and rest.

Suddenly, Chloe walks into the room that I'm in. This is my last patient for the day. She started talking in an urgent voice, "Kathie, run! They need help in the emergency room," she said, and I immediately gathered my things, I had already attended to the patient, so I left as quickly as possible.

Students are almost never called to the emergency room because there are hardly many cases here in the pack, and when there are patients that go to the emergency room, only the doctors responsible for the shift can handle the job.

The emergency floor is on the second floor, I hurried to the elevator with Chloe to get there as quickly as possible. The hospital is very calm, there are just a few patients today.

"What happened? What is the patient's condition?" I asked, I want to get ready to be helpful there.

"She is one of our best warriors. She was on a mission to defend another region that is part of the Diamond Claw. She was wounded in the arm by a dagger that contains a poison made by witches," she began to explain the patient's situation to me while we were running towards the emergency corridor.

"There is no doctor on duty now, and the senior students who were responsible for staying in the emergency sector have already tried all possible antidotes, but nothing is working. Nothing makes her feel less. And she is really feeling a lot of pain," she said when we were close to the room.

I stood at the end of the hospital corridor, peering through the glass wall into the dimly lit room where a woman lay in agony. I know that with a mere touch, I could cure her and alleviate her pain.

"I'll do what I can to help her," I told her, and she said goodbye as she went back to reception, and I walked towards the room.

However, I need to do this discreetly to maintain my facade. No one can find out that I am a Healer.

How am I going to do this now?

As I contemplated how to use my gift to help her, conflicting thoughts swirled through my mind.

If I'm exposed, it will forever alter my life and the lives of those around me. I would become a target.

But every ounce of my being yearned to bring solace to her suffering. I need to help her, I need to heal her. I kept echoing this in my mind, urging me to act.

Ultimately, after a lengthy internal struggle, I resolved to heal her.

I entered the room and went to her bed. There were some people next to her trying to apply some things to her while she struggled in pain.

"Katie, we applied some medicine to her to alleviate the symptoms, but it's not working," said one of the senior students as he closed a briefcase that contained some specific medicines for extreme pain.

I looked at her while picking up her file to check her data, and I saw that her name is Charlotte, she seldom appeared in the hospital, which means that she rarely gets severely injured in battles.

From the looks of it, Charlotte appears to be a powerful warrior. I was waiting to find a way to help her, but with these two students here in the room, it would be impossible for them not to find out.

I started to get agonized by Charlotte's screams of pain. I continued helping to bandage some parts that she was severely injured as she contorted her entire body.

"It hurts so much, I don't know how long I can take this," she cried.

"We've done everything we can, Charlotte. Let's wait for the medicine I just gave you to work," said one of the students who was on her left side.

The lack of empathy on his face made me want to throw up, the way he looked at her like he didn't care about her made me so angry.

I need to do something, I need to act!

But how to do anything with them here?

"Have you tried using some antidotes from the reserved session that is kept in the locker?" I asked.

"Yes, what do you think I applied on her? A simple tranquilizer?" he asked me rhetorically with impatience.

I bit the inside of my cheek, I need to come up with an excuse to get them out of the room.

"This had to happen right on my shift? Ugh!" the other student spoke to himself as he checked her chart.

How could he think that with Charlotte's screams of pain?

I felt so helpless.

What if I reveal that I'm a Healer? Charlotte's life is more important than my secret.

But then I fall back into the consequences loop.

You know what? I'll use it anyway. I can no longer see her needing help and do nothing.

"I'm going to call Dr. Smith to ask if he has anything to suggest," one of them said.

Finally! I breathed a sigh of relief. He's going to have to go down to reception to call Dr. Smith, so he's going to have to leave the room.

And so he did, leaving me alone with the other stupid one at my side.

At that moment, Charlotte wasn't even able to open her eyes anymore in so much pain, her face was soaked with tears, and the black stain around where she was injured was almost reaching her heart.

She won't be able to wait long. I grabbed some gauze pads and discreetly tossed them into my bag while the other student was distracted.

"Can you get me more gauze? We're out of here, and she needs more, much more," I said, I was mentally begging him to get out as fast as possible.

"Why don't you go get it yourself?" He questioned me with a look of disdain.

"Could you please take it for me? You'll find several in the storage room near reception. That's where the best snack vending machine is," I suggested, hoping he'd take my bait.

"Okay then," he said nonchalantly, heading towards the door, "I might be a little late, I need to stretch my legs," he said, and I pressed my lips together, I tried to hold myself back from cursing him.

As soon as I saw him walk out the door, I immediately put my hand on Charlotte's left arm and started concentrating on healing her. The wound started on her arm and moved toward her heart.

I started to feel a massive pain in my arm. Oh my goddess, is she suffering like this? I almost took my hand away from her wound so I wouldn't feel that pain anymore, but I stayed firm. This will pass. She will be fine!

I felt my hand starting to feel warm, and so I tried even harder. I concentrated even more so that she would be okay.

After a few minutes, which seemed like hours, I opened my eyes, I didn't even realize that I had my eyes closed, the excruciating pain I felt in my arm was gone, and I saw that the black spot around the wound on Charlotte's arm was also gone.

She opened her eyes, her face was still dripping with tears, she looked at me, confused, finally stopping crying and screaming in pain.

"What did you do to me?" It was the first thing she said in a firm voice.

"I-I didn't do anything, you got better with all the antidotes they gave you," I lied as I blushed.

"You think I'm stupid?" She accused, "I was in excruciating pain a second ago, and out of nowhere, it disappeared like magic. You did something," she didn't question me. She declared I did something.
