No! No! No!

“Push, Alexa, push!” Mom says, distressed. “Breathe! Lexi, breathe! You’re not breathing!”

Goddess help me!

A lot is going on at the same time. I don’t know what to do first.

Kyrie squeezes my hand back, “Lexi, breathe,” she asks, breathing exaggeratedly loud for me to imitate her.

It hurts so much! Fuck, is this normal?

Nox! I need—

"AAAHHH," I scream in pain.

“That’s it, honey. Keep pushing,” Mom says with her hands between my open legs. “That’s it, breathe. That’s good! We’re here with you!”

I want my mate, I want my Prince here with me!

‘Princess, what’s wrong? Why are you feeling so much pain?’

“Push, Lexi, push! Yes, yes! Just a little more,” Mom says, and I try to follow her commands.

“Ahhh,” I push hard and then breathe heavily.

Kyrie wipes my forehead with a damp, cool towel, “You’re doing great, Lexi!”

I push hard, feeling my baby come out of me, and by Mom’s movement, I know she’s grabbing my baby.

“That’s it!” Mom speaks with an emotional voice, looking down. “Goddess, aw, so beautiful! You did it, sweetheart!” Mom holds my crying baby in her arms before cutting the umbilical cord.

I start to cry with relief. My baby is here! Thank you, Moon Goddess!

Kyrie helps Mom wrap my little crying puppy in a blanket. “It’s a boy,” Mom says, crying.

My father comes into the room, and I hold my son. I hug my baby boy and cry, “My beautiful baby! You were so brave,” I kiss the top of his head. “Tristan,” I say with a smile, “You look like Tristan!” I kiss his forehead again, and he finally stops crying.

“Aww, that’s a beautiful name!” Mom cries, and my Dad hugs her. Then they sit next to me on the bed. “Our little Tristan!”

Kyrie leaves the room with the things my mother used.

Nox! I hug my baby, who seems to be falling asleep already. My mate is in danger!

I need to help him!

I look at my parents, and suddenly, I feel a lump in my throat.

“Mom, Dad,” I look at her and then at him with tears in my eyes. “I’m so sorry you had to deal with the troubles of having a daughter with a red wolf! I’m sorry for everything I caused to our pack!”

They look at me confused, “Alexa, you are our greatest blessing from the Moon Goddess! Just like us, all our pack members love you and would do it all again if they had to!” Dad says.

I try not to cry because I need to say more things to them. I look down, and my baby is sleeping with a peaceful face. Goddess, he is so beautiful, and, oh my Goddess, he is enormous!

I smile before looking at my parents again. I make my decision. “I need to ask you something.”

My parents look at each other before Mom says, “Anything, honey, we’ll always be here for you for anything!”

“If something happens to me, please...” I look down at my baby in my arms. “If something happens to me, take care of my son!”

“What do you mean by that, Alexa?” Dad speaks sharply.

“You’re scaring us!” Mom says apprehensively.

“Please, just listen to me,” they nod but visibly unhappy. “If something happens to me, for everyone’s safety, tell everyone I’m human. Tell them that I’m human and I don’t have a wolf. Ask everyone in the pack who knows about my red wolf not to tell anyone else. Tell the new members that don’t know about me yet that I’m human. Tell this even to my son,” a tear falls from my eye.

“Where’s his father, Alexa?” Dad asks, clearing his throat.

“It doesn’t matter. One day, he will know.” My tone is firm despite my entire body shaking with emotion.

I hand my son to my father, and then I take off the necklace that Nox gave me and hand it to my Mom.

“Give it to Tristan.”

“Alexa, where are you going?” Mom says with scared eyes when I get out of bed.

“Please trust me,” I ask, trying not to sway because my legs are weak.

However, before going after my mate, I reach out to my parents, hug them tight, and then kiss my son’s forehead. “I love you!”

“Alexa!”

I don’t answer anything, I run out of the room. I hear them shouting my name behind me, but I’m happy they don’t follow me.

“Where are you going? Lexi, don’t go outside. There’s a horrible snowstorm!” Kyrie says as I pass past her, but I still don’t look back. I run as fast as I can. Even though I’m still in pain.

‘We need to mindlink our mate!’ Tyra reminds me.

The snow burns beneath my feet, but my blood is so hot from the adrenaline that I don’t even feel it. I place my hand over my eyes to shield my face from the snow that keeps falling.

Thunder and lightning in the sky illuminate the path between the trees, not that I need it because I know this path by heart.

‘Lexi, where are you? Everyone here at the packhouse is worried about you!’ Letum mindlinks me.

‘I can’t talk right now, Letum. Nox is in danger!’ I reply, ‘Letum, if anything happens to me, help my parents with our pack. I trust you!’ I command.

I block him just like anyone else so he doesn’t mindlink me.

I need to focus on saving my mate now.

I swear to Goddess, if Nige touches my Prince, I will kill him!

‘Princess,’ Nox mindlinks me in a weak voice. ‘Don’t come to the three sacred trees!’

‘What the fuck happened?’ I scream in my mind, and for a second, I stop running. My breathing becomes labored as I wait for him to respond.

‘Nigel!’ Nox responds after a while. ‘I came to the sacred trees after the Goddess Selena told me it was time to return. However, when I got here, Nigel shot me with a poisoned arrow. I didn’t see him arrive! After he approached me, he took out the arrow and added more poison to my wound. I can’t shift, don’t come here, please!’

He did—what?

I start running again and don’t even bother answering Nox.

When I start to see the sacred trees, I begin to smell a rogue scent, but I only sense my mate and Nige nearby.

That smell is coming from Nige! What the fuck did he do?

“Nigel!” I scream, and he looks at me. Nox is on the ground, bleeding, next to the wishing tree. “What the fuck did you do!” I scream.

“What did *I* do?” he shouts back. The snow seems to fall more quickly, and the lightning in the sky illuminates our surroundings, which allows me to see that Nigel has an axe in his hands—one of the axes that was used to construct the pack houses. “What did *you* do! You lied to me! You and this fucker!” Nigel points the axe at Nox’s head.

“No!” I scream desperately, snow entering my mouth. “Nigel, please don’t!”

“I’m going to kill him just like I killed everyone who dared get in my way! And then I will cut down that stupid tree you value so much!” He says in an evil voice through clenched teeth.

“What do you mean? What did you do, Nige?” I ask angrily, but I feel like I know the answer.

“I did everything for you! Everything! I took Sandy out of my way because she didn’t want me to be close to you. She hated me, but after a lot of effort, I managed to find the perfect opportunity to kill her.” The world seems to collapse as I hear his cruel words.

“No, you... No,” I shake my head in disbelief. “Sandy!” I whisper softly.

He lifts the heavy axe, “I bargained with all those rogues to kill this idiot, and in the end, he ended up killing them all and still knocking you out!” he says with disgust before going on, looking at my belly. “Who do you think planned the last attack to solve your problem? *Me*! I did everything for you, and you didn’t even care! Those rogues were supposed to kill the bastard in your belly, but they didn’t even do that! I killed my fated mate to be available to you, Alexa, and yet you stayed with *him*!” Nigel spits.

“Did you kill Rose?” I ask, nauseated but not surprised. “You said she rejected you!”

“She rejects *me*?” He scoffed. “That useless cunt was good for nothing. You know, I was just going to only reject her, but she had to follow me and find out my plans. That useless she-wolf wanted to tell you everything, so I had to reject her and then force her to detach from *my* pack so you wouldn’t feel her dying,” he shouts. “She shouldn’t meddle in my things! She couldn’t stay alive after knowing everything,” his evil grin widens, and he plays with the axe up and down with a cocky grin.

“Well, that’s exactly how Dana died, you know? She was going to stay alive after the attack I planned to kill those good-for-nothing old farts. However, she found out at the last minute, so I was forced to kill her, not that I regretted it,” he shrugs, and the snow accumulated on his shoulder falls away.

“Nigel... How could you?” I’m in shock. I can’t believe that the Nige I met and once fell in love with was capable of all this.

He helped me when I lost Sandy, and the fucker was the one who killed her!

All these years, I thought I had killed her when, in fact, it was him!

Dana... Oh, my Goddess! How could I be so fucking blind?!

He’s a *deceiver*!

It was his fault that all those people died, and Rose... When we finally got along... Fuck! She was loyal to me at the last minute of her life!

I roughly run my arm across my face to dry my tears, which seem to be freezing in the snowy wind. “Nigel!” I snap at him between my teeth clenched. “How could you?”

“I did all of that for you, you bitch!” the motherfucker has the audacity to shout, “I did this so we could be together, and yet you chose him!” Nigel swings the axe back at Nox on the ground, who appears unconscious. “If you’re not going to be with me, you won’t be with him either!” Nige raises the axe, aiming for Nox’s neck.

“No!” I scream, taking more steps forward.

“Here’s the deal, bitch. You will reject him, I will mark you, and I will command the pack. If you do that, I won’t kill him,” Nige proposes with an evil smile.

I look at Nox on the ground.

Will this be the end of us? All that effort for nothing, and now I must reject my fated mate to protect him?

“Princess,” Nox’s voice breaks.

“So what will it be?” Nigel forces me to look back at him, “I’m going to be the Alpha of this fucking pack. It’s going to be really nice knowing that I’m going to be the Alpha and enjoy everything this motherfucker did without me having to do anything!”

“What’s the point of all this? You know no one will accept you!” I shout at him. He’s not that stupid.

“Do you really think I’m going to take the risk?” He looks at me with malignant amusement. “I will kill everyone who dares to stop me. I’ve already done this to more than half of the pack members. I can do it to the rest!”

I don’t wait for him to respond. I attack him with all my anger.

Nigel killed all those people. Dana, Rose, Sandy!

He almost killed my baby boy before he was born! And he still wants to destroy the trees that I care so much about? No!

Before I reach him, he tries to hit me with the axe, but I dodge it. I’m still a little slow from giving birth; otherwise, I would already have killed him. My rage blinds me because I don’t even feel when his blow hit my right thigh.

However, suddenly, amidst the darkness of the night, the snow appears to lighten, while the lightning and thunder in the sky intensify to the point where the full moon becomes visible.

When Nigel tries to hit me again, Nox gets up and steps in front of me. Nox punches Nigel in the face, which makes him wobble back.

“Stay behind me, Princess!” Nox says calmly as if he wasn’t hurt or struggling. But his calm seems lethal.

“Nox!”

Nox easily knocks the axe out of Nigel’s hand. Then he throws Nige on the ground and places his muscular leg firmly on top of Nigel’s chest, preventing him from shifting.

It becomes clear that my Prince’s strength is beyond Nigel’s. I don’t know how he suddenly managed to get better, but he dealt with Nigel with the same strength as Khai when defending me.

The wind blows his shoulder-length hair. It feels like déjà vu. He’s wearing the same burgundy sleepwear when I found him.

He’s going to leave wearing the same clothes he got here in as if nothing has changed.

I take a step towards them while Nigel struggles, trying to wriggle for Nox to get off him. But I know Nox will kill him.

I will not protest. Nox looks deadly at Nige, who doesn’t stop struggling.

“You killed so many people. You deserve to die. You deserve to die very slowly, painfully, and with the same cruelty that you used to kill all those good people. But,” Nox gets up off him but still has one foot firmly on his stomach—Nigel winces and gasps with the pressure. Then, Nox reaches the sharp axe handle without getting off Nige. “But, you hurt the most precious thing in the world to me, and for that, *you don’t get to live another breath*,” Nox says quietly.

Nigel cowardly begs me to stop Nox, but my mate hits Nigel’s entire head with the axe, splitting it into two perfect parts.

The same axe Nox used to construct our homes, he destroyed our greatest enemy.

The soft snow covering the ground is stained with Nigel’s blood.

I stand transfixed by the scene before me. Yet, if Nox didn’t kill him, I would.

Nox drops the axe and slowly turns to me, seeming afraid of my reaction.

When he takes two steps toward me, I run into his arms, wrapping my legs around his hips when I reach him.

He hugs me tight. “I almost lost you,” I say, crying.

Nox runs his hand up and down over my back, and then he walks over to the wishing tree and sits on the ground with me on his lap.

Again, we are here in this same position, only this time, Nigel’s dead body is nearby, being covered with snow that starts falling again.

Nox kisses my forehead, “I’m sorry about everything.”

Before I can answer him, I see a tiny light shining around the small door I made with our initials. “Nox, look!” I point out. Around us, everything seems silent. The snowstorm seems to suddenly pause.

Nox doesn’t turn his face to where I’m pointing. On the contrary, he continues looking ahead.

He looks crestfallen when he says, “Please, let me stay with her.”

I turn my face back but can’t see who he’s talking to. But with the shiver I feel in my body, I have a suspicion. The Moon Goddess!

Suddenly, I see the same little light that led me to find Nox a year ago in this exact spot.

“Nox!” I say quietly, but he ignores me, seeming to continue listening to something.

Unexpectedly, he opens a bright smile, his dimples appearing, and a tear runs over his face before everything goes dark.

I feel him touch the tree behind us, but I can’t see because everything around me seems like a blur.

Did I die?

And then, out of nowhere, I open my eyes, and the severe snowstorm is replaced by a sunny, beautiful day.

The smell of flowers in the air and the colorful trees instead of dry ones make me open my mouth in surprise.

And then I look at my mate, who somehow ended up a little far from me, and I widen my eyes in disbelief. But what surprises me isn’t him, but the fact that Sandy is lying on the ground next to him.
