Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 224: Book 2 - Chapter 57
Nige turns to me with flushed cheeks. “I mean...” He winces as he looks at Nox and then nervously looks back at me. “I mean that this will no longer be a problem because, in a way, almost everyone who died was people who needed our help... Lexi, I feel for their loss, especially because I was there.”
I stare at him for a moment before he changes the subject and calls Letum to help with a task I assigned to him.
Yet, I continued the rest of the day with an ache in my nose, hurting from the bitter smell that Nige gave off when talking about the people who died.
🐺 🐺 🐺
When Letum said he was going to the central cave and would return with my parents and the pack members the following month, I thought I could finally see them again.
However, that’s not what happened. A month passed, and no one showed up.
Still, I started to get worried about what could have happened to them over two months later.
Nox was as worried as I was, so we got ready to go to the central cave to find out what happened, even though we had less than a month to go before I gave birth to our baby.
However, when we were almost leaving the territory, in the arch with the name of the pack that Letum created, Nox began to feel their presence not so far away from us.
So we had to change our plans immediately.
Nox said goodbye to me and went with his backpack to one of the caves to the east that we used to live in because it was outside the pack territory, far away enough for no one to feel his presence but close enough for me to get there quickly.
We talked and agreed that no one could see him. That’s why I’ll make some excuse to my parents as soon as they settle in here at the pack so I can leave to see him.
I still don’t feel their presence like Nox, so as soon as I said goodbye to him, I went back to the packhouse, put my backpack away, and took a shower to get rid of the Nox smell.
And now I stand here, looking at the letters on the bow that Letum crafted, beautifully inscribed with the name of our pack.
I crack a smile. I bet they will love it.
I wanted Nige to be here, but he said he needed some time for himself because Rose’s rejection hit him hard.
Part of me didn’t believe it because he wanted to reject her to be with me, but I guess that maybe he didn’t mean it. The part of me that thought his feelings were true was that one who allowed him to leave to have his time. I have no idea what it would be like to reject his fated mate, and I don’t even want to know it. The day I threatened to reject Nox was the worst day of my life, and I don’t wish that fucking pain to anyone.
Although the packhouse has a fall decor, winter has already arrived here. It hasn’t started snowing yet, but the trees have already started losing their leaves, which has been happening for a few days now.
The wind is getting colder, and while I wait for them to arrive, I regret not asking Letum to make a bench here or where the three trees are.
Suddenly, I feel their presence, and my heart starts racing.
Goddess, I miss them so much!
Will they like the new territory?
I can’t mindlink Nox. He’s already too far away. Even though I’m happy with everyone’s arrival, my heart hurts because Nox isn’t here.
The first thing I will do is ask Kyrie for the potion she is developing. Maybe we can find a way for him to live in the pack without anyone finding out.
As soon as I see movement among the trees, my heart races even more.
I feel two people approaching and I already know who they are before they even appear.
“Mom! Dad!” I run towards them as they run towards me.
“Sweetheart,” Mom is already crying before she even hugs me.
“Alexa!” My father says at the same time as they both abruptly stop running when they see the size of my belly.
I stop running, too, afraid of their reaction.
But a second later, they run towards me again, hand in hand. They look at me with a confused face but don’t say anything. As soon as they reach me, they wrap me in a kind hug that warms me up immediately.
“What happened? How—” Mom says hugging me tight.
“You have a lot to tell us, young lady!” My father says harshly but continues hugging me affectionately.
“Later,” I reply, pulling back to look at them. But when I see their tired faces, I throw myself at them again. “I missed you guys so much! I’m so happy you’re here!”
I try not to cry, but it’s hard. I’ve been praying to the Goddess Selena all these days to protect them and for that carnage not to happen ever again!
“Us too, sweetheart, us too!” Mom says, drying her tears after I let them go.
Dad places an arm under my shoulders, and Mom holds my hand. Together, we stand in front of the arch with the new pack name.
“What did you think?” I ask without looking at them.
“The Three Trees pack, huh?” Dad says, admiring the arch. “I love it! This place is so far from everything, and so hidden that I’m sure it will be challenging for anyone to get here!”
My smile fades when I remember the last attack, but I decide not to ruin their mood.
“It’s so beautiful! Letum mentioned to us some things you did here, but he didn’t do justice to the beauty of this arch!” Mom praises. Even though it’s almost noon, we can’t see the sun because the day is a little cloudy.
I examine my parents’ torn and worn clothes. Goddess... They are in this situation because of me.
“How was the trip? Was it a lot of work to get here?” I ask as I enjoy the two of them next to me.
My mother caresses my pregnant belly. She raises an eyebrow at me as if asking me if I will really ignore the elephant in the room. “It was very peaceful. A little tiring, but we didn’t have any problems. The potion that Kyrie prepared was handy.”
“Wow! She did it! Did you all use it?” I ask.
“Yes, that’s why it took us so long. Kyrie was perfecting the potion, and also, the materials used were not easy to find,” Dad explains. “Her mother helped a lot with the preparation,” he turns around, looking at my mother with a proud smile, and leans into her before kissing her cheek.
“Where’s your mate?” Dad asks after some time. The people haven’t arrived yet, but I feel them closer. “And don’t you dare lie, young lady, because that mark on your neck can be seen from the moon!”
My face flushes, and I smile nervously. “Why didn’t you tell us that you were pregnant, Alexa? We would have come much sooner to take care of you!” Mom scolds me.
“Sorry... I thought you were going to come soon, so I asked Letum not to say anything,” *well, that was true.* “Besides, I wanted to talk to you in person... Are you mad at me?”
“What? No!” They both turn to me abruptly. “We would never be mad with you, sweetheart,” Mom says, cupping my face.
“We’re sad that you didn’t tell us, but I’m sure you had your reasons. Reasons you’re not telling us now, but I know you will tell us at the right time,” Dad says.
This time, I can’t stop my tears. “Goddess! I missed you so much!” I say, my voice cracking as I hug them both again.
“Oh, sweetheart! We are here now!” Mom says, also crying.
“I can’t believe we’re going to be grandparents!” Dad says, hugging me tight. “Damn, before I get ready to be a grandpa, this pup will already be born!” Dad speaks in an annoyed tone.
I tease him, “You’re just upset because you didn’t meet my mate to threaten him if he does something wrong to me.”
They both laugh, but they know I’m right.
🐺 🐺 🐺
I thought I could go out to meet Nox right after I saw my parents. However, my parents, Letum, and I had a lot of work to assign to each family who would live in each house.
I was almost flabbergasted when we realized that the houses we built were exactly the amount of houses needed for everyone to settle in. Well, except for a few people who decided to live in the packhouse with us, this was the case with our Beta and Gamma’s family.
Kyrie and Letum also decided to live in the packhouse with us because not only are there only a few months left before their baby is born, but they’re not ready to live in the house that Dana built for Kyrie. Although the two are still visibly shaken by Dana’s death, they seem increasingly united, one trying to support the other.
My parents loved the packhouse’s fall decor, and when I told them about my desire to change it every season, Mom was thrilled, and Dad said it would be our next tradition.
After everyone got settled, I went to Kyrie’s room and asked if she had any potion left to camouflage the smell. She said she didn’t have it but that she would prepare it for me as soon as she could.
I was a little shy with everyone thanking me for their new homes, they were so happy... I wish Dana was here to see the result of everything she worked so hard on.
Our pack now has many new members, and I met each one, but unlike my chatty mate, I spoke to them briefly.
As soon as I had a chance to speak with my parents in private, I informed them that I needed to travel to a not-so-close city to address an issue. And, of course, they told me I wouldn’t go. They didn’t want to allow me to leave the pack. But after a long conversation, I convinced them to let me go, especially because I would be back soon because there were only a few weeks left before my baby was born.
Maybe the reason was the size of my belly, but I didn’t imagine it would take me so long and that I would be so tired when I arrived at the cave to the east.
Fuck. My. Life.
My feet are killing me! I almost regretted coming here.
But I couldn’t stay away from him.
I bitterly regret not having come with the truck.
As soon as he sees me approaching, he runs towards me and hugs me tightly. “You won’t leave my sight ever again!” Nox says in a relieved tone.
His scent immediately calms me down. He takes my backpack off my back; it’s not that heavy because I only brought a few things, the heaviest thing is the food that Mom forced me to carry.
I feel sparks all over my body as he picks me up in bridal style and carries me into the cave. “Don’t be a caveman,” I tease him. Though he only kisses the top of my head in response.
I feel how apprehensive he was about being away from me. “I was thinking about getting some diamonds to give your parents as a spare.” He says without looking at me, continuing to walk with me in his arms.
“Why? Will we need it in the future?” I ask, eager to find out more information.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t know! I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while now. Our pack needs more than just houses. They need money in case they need something, I don’t want them to feel helpless.”
“Uhm... Okay. I like your idea. It’ll be great to arrive there with big diamonds. My parents will think I robbed someone, but don’t worry, it’ll be super easy to prove otherwise,” I ironize.
Nox laughs out loud. His laugh is so contagious that I laugh with him. “I know you’ll find a way to explain,” he says, looking at me. “And I doubt they’ll deny diamonds!”
“If they say no, you can make me a piece of jewelry with each diamond!” I playfully suggest when Nox enters the cave. In my mind, Tyra insists on reminding me that we marked ourselves here.
Nox raises an eyebrow with a smirk, “I didn’t know you liked jewelry that much.”
“Just because I don’t fucking have it doesn’t mean I don’t like it!” I snap. “You know, I just don’t have it because I’m poor! I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, unlike certain princes...”
Nox set me on my feet and slaps my ass.
*Smack!*
“Ouchie!” I cry, even though it didn’t hurt that much. “I only told you the truth, Prince!” I say with a mocking bow.
“Charming as always, Princess,” Nox quips.
I turn to sit on the nest that Nox has already prepared, and I pull his backpack to use as a support for my feet, but as soon as I touch his backpack, he snaps, “No!”
I look at him, confused, and then my shoulders tense. “What are you fucking hiding this time, Nox?”
