"Katie!" Chad says with wide eyes. "My wolf is saying–"

"What's your wolf saying?" Kaiden growls and steps in front of me, hiding me so Chad can't see me.

"Wait, Kaiden!" I say, stepping out from behind him. "Chad is my protector!"

"What?" Kaiden, Jay, Jake and Gideon ask at the same time.

"Yes!" Chad says, approaching me. He looks me up and down, and then his eyes hover over my pregnant belly. The last time I saw him, I wasn't as big as I am now. Well, if I think about it, before yesterday, I wasn't as big as I am now.

Then he looks at me again. "I'm so sorry for everything I did!" he says regretfully, almost crying.

I take a step towards him, "I know," I hold one of his hands. "Ruby is telling me that every red wolf has a protector to save them when they need it most–"

"HA!" Kaiden scoffs, crossing his arms. "Yours came with a defect because instead of saving you, he put you in danger!"

Chad sadly looks away, and I squeeze his hand. I can feel him! I can feel how sorry he is, how much he didn't want that to happen.

"Kaiden, we agreed that he would be free," Jay interjects.

"What are you talking about?"

Kaiden pulls me close to him, and I let go of Chad's hand to avoid his growl. 'We red wolves need someone to protect us because the threat to our lives is grand. Suddenly, everything starts to make sense because I always felt so safe with Chad, but it was never in a... romantic way.

I feel Kaiden's body relax against mine, but he doesn't let me go.

I look at Kaiden expectantly, and he takes a deep breath as if controlling himself from getting angry before saying, "From today on, you are free. Chad smiles and then nods. Jake comes up to him and hugs him, "Welcome back!"

Chad thanks him, and then Jake does the same, but with less enthusiasm.

Kaiden doesn't hug him, but I can feel from our bond mate that he wants to.

I push him to encourage him, but he turns his face more serious than he was before, so I give up.

Finally, I turn to Gideon and Kaiden, and I thank him for saving my life.

"Oh my fucking Goddess!" Chad curses and takes off his clothes quickly. He is the first to shift, and then Kaiden does the same, accompanied by Jay and Jake.

I take advantage of the distraction and run freely in one direction, leaving everyone behind. Ruby is the same height as Jason's wolf, who is taller than Jake and Chad.

'You're stealing!' Jay says in my head, Chad passes in front of him.

'She runs faster than you,' Chad says, the three of us can hear each other, except Jake.

Troy doesn't leave my side, always touching Ruby with so much possessiveness that it's almost impossible not to die of love.

We ran towards the lake, exploring every part of it that we could. I feel so... free. So loose, as if nothing was holding me back.
