The Alpha Prince's Abused Mate Chapter 100

ALANA

We were all gathered around the bed of the queen luna where she is weakly laying down with the alpha king tightly holding her hand.

When we arrived in the room, Georgia and Sophia were already there before us. Francine and Lucas also came with us.

“Father, what happened to queen luna?” William sat down next to her mother and took her other hand. “Why does she fall ill suddenly?”

“She was poisoned by wolfsbane,” the alpha king answered in gritting teeth. “The queen luna was poisoned by one of the people who have met with her this week!”

All gasped in unison when we heard that. How could someone in the close circle of the queen luna do this to her? How can any of us here do that to her?

The alpha king looked at each one of us intently. “I have a challenge for each one of you. The one who poisoned the queen luna must be here. I will give you one week to come out or any of you here can make him or her come out. If you fail my task, then everyone here in the room will get punished in the same way that I will punish the one who did this to my luna!” he growled.

We bowed our heads before him in agreement as we were led out of the room with William staying with his parents inside.

I took one long look at the queen luna and sighed. My heart is heavy seeing her this way. The queen luna is a very attentive instructor when it comes to my classes and I did not experience even for one time that she treated me badly even when I know that she picked Georgia and Sophia herself to be bride candidates to William.

“This is just stupid! How could the alpha king pressure us this way when he could just easily find out who poisoned the queen luna? Why give that task to us when I have more important things to do to make the alpha prince choose me as his wife?” Sophia spoke annoyingly, garnering a side eye from Francine.

“The alpha king’s judgment is sound and precise. He is just known for his unconventional tactics in solving problems and mysteries.” Francine stared at Sophia. “Besides, there is no reason for reacting like this if you are not the one who did it. By the looks of it, you are terrified of something, Sophia.”

Sophia just laughed and grinned at us.  “Who says I am terrified? Hell, the only one who should be afraid right now is your beloved boss because she is the last person the queen luna talked with before she fell ill. The alpha king has every reason to suspect her! I guess she wants to be the queen luna so badly that she intends to kill the mother of the alpha prince!”

Lucas hitched Sophia by the neck and pinned her harshly to the wall. “Did you know it is a crime to accuse the alpha prince’s mate without proper evidence?! Do you know that I could wring your neck now and I can justify the act, woman?”

Sophia turned pale before Lucas let go of her. Coughing, she immediately stepped back with glaring eyes pointing at me.

“Fighting like this is no use,” Georgia stepped up. “As Francine said, the alpha king’s decisions are sound and precise. Instead of wasting time here arguing with each other, we should find out who among us did that to the queen luna.”

Everyone nodded and went our own ways.

“Let me handle this, Alana. I know you are not the one who did this,” Lucas said and held my hand but I quickly pulled it away from him when I felt that weird queasy feeling again.

“I think you should take care of yourself, Lucas. I can definitely work it out on my own with William.”

I saw him clenched his jaws before he sighed when Francine put a hand on his back. “Alana is right, Lucas. We are all suspects here and in order to save ourselves, we should investigate who did this to the queen luna.”

They left while I stayed outside the room waiting for William. When he came out, I took him in my arms and comforted him.

“Don’t worry, William. We will find out who did this to your mother and he or she will surely be punished.”

He just answered me by holding me closer into his body.

We did not waste any more time. While William went out to investigate, I returned to the dance room where the queen luna supervised me.

I know how the plant looks and smells because I have studied it extensively in the herbs class.

I sniffed every single item inside to learn if a wolfsbane’s scent was around but nothing came out. I even checked the video footage to know if I brought wolfsbane and I just forgot about it just like I always tend to but it showed nothing about my suspicions.

I sighed in relief knowing that I did not poison the queen luna but when I arrived at my room and took from the laundry basket, the clothes I wore during the training with the queen luna, I just froze when I felt something in its pockets.

Catching my breath, I reached deep into the pockets and took the dried wolfsbane plants out in shaking hands.

“Why is it here?” I muttered to myself and looked at the door where William is standing staring at me and the poison plant in my hands.

“William…” My voice was trembling as I showed him the plants.

“William, what if I am the one who poisoned the queen luna?” Those memories about what I did to the bird and William came back to me. “What if something triggered me and I just forgot that I am the one who did it?”

Tears blurred my sight of him as I moved deeper into the corner. William must have been hating me now. He will curse my name and will hate me forever.

But to my shock, I watched him kneel before and took the plant from my hands and put it in his pocket, determination in his eyes as he cupped my face.

“You are not the one who poisoned the queen luna, Alana. You can never do that to anyone, especially to my own mother. If there is anyone who can, then that would be me,” he said in a pained voice. “That would be me, Alana.”
