I filled my lungs with the scent of the plants in the laboratory and smiled to myself.

I’m feeling so at ease and comfortable in this place as if I belonged here.

The medicine on the racks, the books about healing, and just the smell of the plants in this huge room are enough to put the biggest smile on my face.

“Now, this is what we call heaven,” I muttered to myself while touching the equipment in the area.

I don’t really know about the intention of the alpha prince to bring me here but I will never complain because I just love it here. It felt like I belonged here.

“I think I have held this before,” I said while caressing a microscope. “And these books right here, I think I read them all before.”

Closing my eyes, I walked slowly to the shelves of books touching every single one of them hoping that I would remember something.

I do not believe the alpha prince when he insinuated that I am his mate but something right now has clicked in my head and I would just like to discover what this is all about.

“You should have not returned here, you bitch!”

I turned around in time to stop Sophia from slamming a glass into my head.

“What the hell are you doing?!” I hollered and managed to avoid her incessant attacks.

She is a mess from the mascara all over her face because of incessant crying to the jealousy in her eyes.

“You happened and that is why I am back in this fucked up of a situation again! Why are you making me hate you all over again? I don’t know who you are because I swear that woman is dead! I am sure of it! But I am telling you, if you don’t leave your ass out of the palace right now, I will make your life a living hell just like I did with that woman!”

I arched my brows and bit the flesh in my cheeks. That somehow triggered me way more than it should be.

“So, you made the life of his former mate a living hell? Is that what you are trying to say?”

She nodded proudly. “Yes! Yes, I did! I know she is the mate of the alpha prince way before the alpha prince found her so I made her life extra painful. I love torturing her in the dungeon. I love making her do those awful and dirty things because I love seeing her suffer! I do not regret every second of that because that is the most satisfying thing I have ever done in my whole life! If given a chance, I would do it over and over again!”

Something inside me exploded with what I heard that I just found myself pulling at her hair and dragging her towards the rack of potions, snatching a syringe on the table and aiming it at her neck.

“What the fuck are you doing?!” she yelled in a trembling voice while my widened eyes are on her. “Get that thing away from me now!”

“Why? Are you afraid?” I gritted my teeth at the sudden flare of anger I have for her. I don’t know the woman she’s talking about but I recognize the excessive hate in her voice and I just don’t want to think how she made her life a literal hell back then. My heart just pours out for that poor girl.

“Did you know that back in my place, I am tagged as the strongest and wittiest woman? A royal woman like you stands no chance against me, Sophia. And now that I have a favor from the alpha prince, I know that he will just let me do what I want to do with you.”

“I said take that thing away from me, Alana!” she shouted when the tip of the needle pierced her skin.

Alana… I heard that name again and something inside me moved in acknowledgment.

“Fine,” I whispered and punctured her neck. “You seemed to have mistaken me for her so let me do her revenge against you, you evil woman.”

She screamed in fright and retreated into the floor holding her neck as her whole body trembled. “What did you inject me with?! A poison?! A disease?! What did you do to me?!”

Her state right now is satisfying that I am certain that she must have been my enemy from my past life. “Oh, just relax, Sophia. It’s only water… for now. the next time I get my hands on you, I will make sure it will not just be water and maybe the suggestions that you gave me will be taken into consideration.”

Smiling, I left her in the room crying and gasping for air only for me to gasp myself when I saw the alpha prince outside the room leaning on the wall waiting for me.

His hands were in his pockets as if he'd been there for a long time just waiting for me to finish my business inside.

“Did you teach her a lesson?” he asked and reached for my hand.

“Yes, I did,” I answered, pausing for a second when I realized that I just gave him my hand like it’s the most natural thing in the world. “Are you angry at me? Are you going to punish me for doing that to your wife, alpha prince?”

“No, not at all. You did a good job and I am proud of you.” He brushed my hair and tucked some strands into the back of my ear, his gaze melting the defenses that I put up since day one. “She deserves it and no, she is no longer my wife. She has never been one since I only considered one woman to be my one and only wife.”

And even if he doesn’t say her name, I know who he is referring to with the way he looked at me. He still hasn’t forgotten about her, the mate that he loves with all of his life.

“Come on.”

Squeezing my hand, we began walking out of the laboratory into the car where his beta is waiting by the side, his eyes blazing in envy at the part where our hands are clasped together.
