The Alpha Prince's Abused Mate Chapter 42
Alana
“Francine, did William call? Did he ask for me?”
The woman looked up from what she’s doing on the computer and removed her glasses. “Yes, our lady. He asked if you are alright and I said yes.”
“Really?” I took the seat in front of her in the room that Alpha Killian gave to my staff. “Did you tell him about what happened? With the assassins?”
“No, I did not, Alana. I believed you when you said that it should be you who should tell him.”
I breathed a sigh of relief. I don’t want him to worry about me. Knowing about him, I will not be shocked if he comes knocking on the gates of the mansion to bring me back to the castle. “Thank you very much, Francine. How is he? Is he good?”
I miss him so much. I miss his scent, his face, his hugs and kisses. I miss everything about him.
She rounded up the table to sit next to me, her face bright with anticipation. “Do you want to speak to him? I can call him for you since you refused to have a phone.”
I was silent for a moment before I slowly shook my head. I missed William so much but I do not want to distract him from his duties. More than that, I am more afraid of myself because I might flee this place in an instant and abandon my job here the second I hear his voice.
And if he asks me now if I want to go back, I will gladly say yes.
“No, no. It's okay. I guess William is still quite averse about me coming back here. I will talk to him when I have enough courage.”
I stood up ready to leave but Francine caught my arm and smiled at me. “You know that he wants nothing but your safety and happiness, Alana. Whatever it is you want to do, you know the alpha prince will be there by your side. You are his mate. He is just taking a bit of time to tell everyone but knows that he is so proud of you, Alana.”
Tears welled in my eyes as she pulled me in for an embrace. I want to run into William’s arms now to tell him everything about my journey here. Oh how good it would be to look into his dark eyes that give me nothing but butterflies.
“Thank you, Francine, for lifting my spirits. Thank you very much.”
I went back into my own office to finalize some documents regarding the new projects that being a teacher in Roan inspired me to have.
This is my way of achieving justice. Straightening the things that I found to be wayward while giving my own family a hard time. I know they have been too comfortable with their wicked ways which is what I will correct in my own way.
“Alana! Alana!”
Sophia barged into my own office fuming with rage. Without even acknowledging her presence, I kept on reading the paper on my table that I needed to sign. As an ambassadress, I was briefed before coming in here what kind of roles my job would entail and that includes establishing projects for the general public. I am also assigned as the head chief to supervise the finances of the town.
“You bitch!” She slammed her hand on the table. “What the hell did you do with the house that I am constructing?! Why did you stop its funding when I need it the most for the party that I will be hosting?”
I sighed and leaned back on the backrest; the beating of my heart intensified again. Dealing with Sophia is still hard given the fact that I spent most of my time here being abused and mocked by her. It always takes more than being brave to face her.
“The school in the village needs more rooms for the students. Yours is just unnecessary spending so I have to cut it off. The mansion is so huge so I don’t get why you need to have a house of your own.”
Her eyes widened and she gasped in disbelief as she stomped her foot on the floor like the spoiled brat that she is.
“When I say that I want that house to be built, then that house will be built. Dad gave me the permission already. I’ve already sent my invitations to my friends to the party so how dare you shame your older sister by cutting off the funds?!”
I stood up from the seat with my thinned lips. “The money is more needed for the kids’ education. Yours is just extravagant spending.”
“Alana! Do not dare me!” she wailed and pushed all the things on the table to the floor. “How dare you come back here and act like you’re the boss! Spoiled little brat! Just because the alpha prince favored you, you’re acting like a diva. I pity William who’d have to transform you feral into a proper civilized person!”
I saw red immediately. I guess I was not used to hearing derogatory things like this because William has been too loving towards me so I cannot take things like this anymore.
I hitched her collar and pulled her towards me as I said the words through my gritted teeth. “The next time I hear you say something like this, I will have to forget that I treated you as my sister before, Sophia. You and I are not on the same ground anymore. I am higher than you are now, you bitch.”
She gasped and pushed me away before turning her back from me. I bet she cannot comprehend how the Alana she knew back then could afford to say things like this to her.
“Do you want to go back to your cage? Do you still remember how you ate on the floor with our specks and mongrels, Alana?”
She stared at me wearing that same smile she used to throw at me every time she would come to my cell before to mock me.
Ever so slowly, she stepped towards me while I remained frozen in my spot. “Hmm? Do you want to be beaten by dad again? Just one word from me and he will take out your whip to beat you again, Alana.”
The memories of me being whipped by my own father assaulted me. Beads of sweat lined my back as I felt my world spinning.
