“The spell I put on the alpha prince’s brain while performing the surgery would soon wear out the second he knows that he has a mate, beta.” The chief doctor glanced at me briefly and then bowed his head again before continuing. “The memories will come rushing into him and we cannot do anything to stop him from remembering Alana. I am afraid that if that happens, we will fall victims into his wrath.”

I clenched my hands and cursed under my breath. I won’t allow that to happen! I have promised before the alpha king and myself that I will bring that secret with me to the graves. “So, before that happens, I should make sure that he doesn’t know that he has a mate. I should always remind him that those things for which he thought are real are not. But how can I do that when I fear that he no longer trusts me? I know he’s been feeling wary around me.”

The chief doctor cleared his mouth before answering me. “I’m sorry but I cannot offer any solution anymore, beta. The surgery was performed without the consent of the alpha prince. Even the alpha king and queen luna are wary of the time when the alpha prince would know about the interference they did.”

I slammed my hand on his desk and growled. “I said I would take care of this! The alpha prince will never know that he had a mate! He will never remember Alana. I swear on my parents’ names that there will be no chance that he will know about her!”

The doctor trembled before me. “I really hope so, beta, because I am really afraid of what the alpha prince can do to us once he knows what we did to him and his mate. My fears are valid because I can sense the spell breaking. I don’t know why this is happening but there are cracks. It means that the alpha prince met someone in the present that is causing the rift. You have to know about who is causing that, beta. That is the only chance we have to continue living!”

I paused for a second to think of any new personality in the life of the alpha king and there is only one person that came into my mind.

“I have to leave now because I have to clean the trimmings now.”

I ran out of the hospital and shifted into my wolf back into the palace hoping that I am not yet too late.

“Aria, you cannot be the person that will ruin all that I have planned in the last five years. You cannot do this to me.”

Francine did not respond and just looked at me with those blank empty eyes.

“Francine, please tell me. Do I have a mate before? Did I just forget about her after the accident?”

I took out the note that was written by my own blood and showed it to her. “This is my handwriting, right? You are the one who taught me how to read and write so you should be familiar with it.”

I waited for any sign of agreement on her face but there was nothing. Nothing was moving on her face. Even her eyeballs that used to move up and down are only fixed on the center while looking at me.

But that did not diminish the hope that I have within me. I took out the photo of Aria from my pocket and showed it to her.

“Did you know her, Francine? Is she my mate? Please, tell me that I am not just going crazy every time I feel this intense connection with her. I know she is a lycan and she has a mate already but everything is possible at this moment.”

I took her hands and rubbed them against mine. “Please, Francine. Answer me, I am begging you. I know you are still in there trapped inside this body of yours but I know you will get through with this. I am here with you and I will never leave you.”

I put the note and the photo back into my pocket and smiled at her. “I know what happened to you is my fault, that is why I cannot understand my father when he decided to punish you instead of me. I know that you would have done the same thing to protect me but what I don’t understand is why would they separate us forcefully? Did something happen, Francine? What happened five years ago? Why is everyone so afraid for me to know about it?”

The door opened and I sensed a new presence.

“Ms. Francine, it’s time for your med-”

The nurse gasped hard when he saw me kneeling in front of Francine and instinctively hid the syringe behind her back.

“A-Alpha prince! Why are you here?!”

My forehead creased at her reaction. The shaking of her voice, the hands at her back hiding the medicine as if she doesn't want me to see it all makes me suspicious.

“You are her nurse?” I asked while intently looking at her.

She gulped and nodded. “Yes, alpha prince.”

“What kind of medicine are you injecting her with?” I extended my hand towards her. “Give me that.”

She blinked hard as she turned pale all over.

“Fucking give me that now!”

I walked up to her and stole the medicine she’s hiding only for me to pant hard in fury when I realized what they’re putting in Francine’s body.

I hitched her arm and growled at her face. “Why are you giving her hallucinogens?! To keep her from remembering me?! So she could not tell me what really happened to me five years ago? Is that all the reason for this?!”

The woman’s body trembled in fear and dropped into her knees. “Alpha prince, I do not have any knowledge about this! I was just told what to do! Please, spare me, alpha prince! Forgive me, alpha prince!”

“Tell me who is making you do this?” I said in the coldest voice I can muster. “Tell me now!”

“The head doctor, alpha prince! He was the one who told me to do this!”

I could only grit my teeth and clenched my hands. That fucking doctor again. That is the same doctor who performed my surgery before.

“I am finally putting the pieces of the puzzle. Sooner or later, I will get to the bottom of this and I will know the secret they’ve been hiding from me.”
