ALANA

The next thing I saw when I woke up was the purple color of the ceiling. I sat down on the bed and looked around the place. I am back in the dormitory and my whole body is aching all over.

“Alana!” William called for my name and I immediately looked to the side of the room where he was standing, scrambling to get to me.

“William…” I muttered and smiled in relief when I realized that it was all just a dream.

I knew it. That was really just a bad dream!

“William!” Just when I was about to jump in and hug him, I blinked and saw the real face of the person and I immediately stepped back into the bed.

His scent does not belong to William.

It was not William all along. It was Lucas. I was just imagining that it was the alpha prince.

Lucas smiled as he walked towards me but I kept on stepping back, my tears already streaming down. I can no longer sense William in me even in the faintest thing.

“Alana, I am glad you are awake now.” He held out his hand towards me. “Come on. We have to leave.”

“L-Leave? Why? Where? I am not leaving. I am staying here because my mate William is here!”

He clasped both of my shoulders as his eyes darkened.

“Alana, you are no longer mated to the alpha prince! He rejected you already! I am right all along, that he is a coward and he does not know how to defend his bond with you. Alana, you do not need someone like him in your life! I am right here with you to protect you so you should forget him now! Be with me! Love me instead because I am your one true mate!”

As if on cue, that scene in the forest where William rejected me played in my mind over and over again.

The alpha prince rejected me. He did not want to be my mate anymore. He broke the promise that he gave me.

Shaking my head, I shoved him away and howled in pain causing the glasses in the room to break.

How could he do this to me?! How could he do this to me?!

Standing up, I ran outside the room barefooted only to stop in my tracks when I saw Francine right in front of the room. She was crying as she surveyed my appearance with pity on her eyes.

“Francine…” I broke into a sob and almost fell to the floor if not for her quick reflexes.

She was able to catch me when my knees gave way.

“It's okay, Alana. It’s okay,” she whispered in my ear when she embraced me tightly.

I kept on breathing hard to control myself but the worst of the emotions were drowning me, taking me hostage and choking me with their poisonous tentacles.

“N-No, Francine! It is never okay! It is never okay! How could he just reject me like that when we promised each other to be together forever?! How could he just surrender like that when I am fighting with all of me to win the tests?! How dare he say those words when I could do everything for me too?! I love him so much, Francine! Until now, my heart is still beating for him!”

“Alana, look at me. Please, look at me.” I did what she said despite my visions fluctuating. “William did not want to do it but he chose to because he cannot take it to see you suffering. He felt useless looking down on you taking all the pain when he promised to protect you.”

“But where is he now?!” I wailed. “Where is the only man who promised to protect me?! Should he be here now with me?”

I clasped her hands and looked at her with all the determination in me. “I want to see him. Please, take me to him, Francine. I want to talk to him, Francine. Please, let me see him.”

She nodded, smiling at me. “I am here for that exact thing. I will take you to him.”

Just as she was helping me to get up, Lucas stormed out of the door towards us.

“Francine, do not take her to him! You are just going to hurt her all over again! The alpha prince rejected her already. There is no point in seeing him!”

But Francine stood squarely in front of the beta and lifted her head.

“Lucas, unlike you, I know how to respect wishes. Let Alana see William for the last time.”

He took my arm and pulled me to him but Francine did not let me go.

“Let go, Francine. She is my mate!” he growled to try to intimidate her but the woman just glared at him.

“Alana did not accept you as her mate, Lucas. You must have thought that the mark you put on her neck would be enough to make her yours but that is not how it works, Lucas. The lady cannot give you her heart. The more she sees you forcing her to take you, the more that connection will not prosper. Nothing good will come out in everything that is forced, Lucas.”

His grip on my arm slowly loosened as his face turned red in shame.

“Thank you,” Francine said as she carried me into her arms and walked away.

“When did you know about Lucas, Francine?” I asked when we’re outside the dormitory.

She looked down on me and smiled. “Since day one, Alana.”

I shut my mouth and looked at the sun in the sky. “Does William still feel the same way towards me even when he rejected me, Francine?”

Her smile widened. “Alana, the bond that the moon goddess forged cannot be easily destroyed by mere words that are not uttered sincerely.”

She put me down when we reached the hall of the mansion and put an arm around my waist to assist me.

“See for yourself how the alpha prince still fights for you,” she said and opened the door for me to see William arguing with his own father in front of all the alphas.
