“Alpha king, please I am begging you to retract your order. Please let Alana return to me. Please, let my mate come back to my side!”

After the call, I rushed into the dormitory but my mother was there chastising me to go to my father before I would be let in the building.

I knelt before my father hoping that he would listen to me but that did not happen. He just continued staring at me with his hands clasped together in his desk.

“And why would I do that? If I give in to you, then I am just setting you up in a lifetime of alphas who would rise against you and would try to break you in. They do not like the fact that you are with your mate while the tests are ongoing. Whatever the results may be, they will not accept it.”

I clenched my hands upon hearing his answer. “Isn’t that a normal thing, father? No leadership is perfect. Every now and then, an alpha would stand against you and that same thing would happen to me too when I become your replacement and that it’s normal. I am not that weak to just waver.”

“Do you think it is that easy?” The alpha king stood up and walked towards me, his towering height and overflowing aura made me look down for a second but switched it up again to stare back at him when Alana’s crying face appeared in my head.

She should not be taken away from me in a time when our connection is hanging by a thread. The mark of my claim on her neck is gone. One of my fears in this whole world is finally happening and I don’t want to just stand here watching it unfold before me.

Alana and I would survive it all no matter what happens.

“As your father, all I’m trying to do is eliminate all the possible rocks that could trip you along the way. William, I already heard things about Alana but I kept my ears shut and chose not to listen to them until the end of the series of the contests. I did not care who she was until she solidified her reputation in this palace as the winner of the tests. You can have my word for it but for now, you should not be seen with her while the tests are ongoing. It’s for her own sake too.”

I clenched my jaws and gritted my teeth. All of me is screaming against his logic. I am Alana’s mate through and through. Whether she wins or not, that won’t ever change!

I need her in ways that she needs me too!

I will take no other woman but only her!

“Father, you are still very strong and I still have good years for me to live out my life as the alpha prince. I don’t ever see myself living in this world without Alana.” I am looking firmly at his eyes while saying that for him to know that nothing could bend me into not doing everything for Alana. “Not even my name, my status, and my future assumption of power can ever change that. Please remember the way you proudly told me about how you fought for mother because I am doing the same to my mate, father. Rest assured that Alana will win this contest no matter what happens, no matter what costs it will take to make it happen.”

And then I bolted out of his office back into my room where I planned ferociously all night in order for Alana and I to see each other so I could brief her on what she’s going to do on the last leg of the competition where she is definitely at a disadvantage.

“Francine, please can I ask for a favor?”

The woman looked at me, her single glance offering me solace more than my parents can give me.

“Of course. Anything for you, alpha prince. Just tell me what you want me to do and I will do it to the best of my ability.”

I sighed and took her hand to put a small note on it. “Please give this to her. She needs to know what she is going to do for the last leg of the competition. I put it all here. I don’t know how my mother came up to this but Alana would be defenseless. Please Francine, she needs to know what she should do. After that, she can rely on me for the rest of the contest.”

I gripped her hand and sighed hard, my heart trembling against its cage upon learning of what would be the last part of this stupid contest.

“Francine, you are the only person that I can trust now. Please, help me.”

I’ve decided to go this route rather than try to cause chaos. The second path would be detrimental for Alana.

She just smiled and caressed my cheeks. “My boy, our alpha prince, do not worry. Let me handle this for you.”

I sighed in relief for a moment. “Thank you so much, Francine.”

ALANA

I gasped and jumped out of the bed when I felt another presence in my room. Is it Lucas again? What is he trying to do again this time?

But when I looked back to see it, I could only open my mouth in surprise.

“Francine!” I exclaimed in happiness seeing her face. “How did you…”

“Shhh…” She covered my mouth with her hand swiftly. “The potion I took to be invisible would only last a minute, Alana.” She opened my palm and put a note on it. “This came from William. You have to do what is written here, Alana.”

I could only nod before she kissed my head and disappeared back into the window of the balcony into the stillness of the night.

With my hands shaking, I read the message on the note quickly and then chewed and swallowed the paper right after to eliminate any evidence.
