Francine got caught off guard with my question and was not able to respond for a few seconds as if she did not know where to start.

The worry on her face plus her eerie silence sent alarms all over my body. I’m sure Alana is in danger. The guards would have her in prison because of what happened which is not really her fault.

It was mine because I kept on trying to deny her to myself. I did that to myself and Alana is the collateral damage of the worst decision I made in my entire life.

Despite feeling dizzy and weak all over my body, I forced myself to get out of the bed. I need to see Alana. I need to know she’s alright.

My wolf yearns for her. It needs to feel her or else I’ll be going crazy.

“Please, alpha prince.” Francine instantly went to my side to assist me. “You have just woken up. It would be unwise to move this hastily.”

I stared at the woman I considered to be my second mother. “Let me ask you again, Francine. Where is Alana? Is she alright? Was she back at her home or did she come to me? Please, Francine. Tell me everything.”

She sighed and took the robe on my bed and put it around me. She just knew that I won’t be stopped from going to my mate no matter what happens.

“Alana was forced to come back here in the palace because the guards arrested her on charge of attempting to murder you.”

“What?!” I snarled and my jaws clenched in fury.

Charge of murder? Does it mean she was thrown into the dungeon?

My heart almost leaped out of its cage knowing that she was put in that place which would remind her of the things she experienced back at her home.

“Alana did not kill me! I can explain what happened. This is definitely not her fault.”

I took a step but everything went spinning down in me. In spite of that, I managed to still keep my stance up.

“Francine, let’s go where Alana is now!”

She nodded and held my arm to support me as we ran to leave the room.

“She is imprisoned in the basement for two days now, William. She is awaiting the final decision from the alpha king and I think he’s giving him a lifetime imprisonment. No matter how we plead for Alana, your father’s mind is already made up.”

I gritted my teeth as my heart continued drumming out of its cage. “That can’t be. I will not allow it. Let’s hurry. I have to go see Alana. I can’t imagine how she must have felt by now. She has already experienced the worst in her entire childhood.”

But the second I opened the door to leave, two guards stopped me immediately.

“Alpha prince, you are not allowed to leave your room without the alpha king’s permission.”

“If you still love your life, I suggest you step aside because I do not really kill if I go down in history as the killer alpha prince,” I growled under my breath.

I am really willing to kill anyone in sight who would stop me from going to Alana.

The soldier just bowed his head, stepped back, and let us through. He must have seen the pure warning in my voice.

“Was Alana bound when she’s being transported here? Was she given enough food and water? Was she hurt? Did they whip her?” I asked questions while literally dragging my feet.

I can still taste blood in my mouth because of bleeding and the wound in my chest is starting to open up.

“She has wounds all over her body from the tires. No one is giving her food but I was always there with her to give her her supply. And no, she is not hurt or is being whipped. Lucas was always there to make sure.”

That brought a little relief in my senses and wrath for those who did it.

“Thank you. Who is behind this all? Who ordered her arrest?”

“It was Cain. He just came into the village out of nowhere and declared you to be taken back here and Alana to be arrested.”

My mind started thinking of an effective way to torture my cousin. Death would be an easy leeway for him.

We turned to the hallway where the stairs are located but my steps soon faltered and stopped when I came face to face with the alpha king.

“Father,” I greeted him.

He stared at my awful condition and shook his head dryly. “See what happened to you because of your hardheadedness?”

“It was not Alana’s fault. She did not try to kill me,” I said right away knowing he will not waste time to connect what happened to me with her.

I ignored the fact that he did not even ask how I am doing given the weeks that we have not seen each other since it’s my fault. I disappointed them because of what I did but I did not regret anything because I did it all for Alana.

“Who said you can see her? Go back to your room.”

I met his eyes and firmly shook my head. “Dad, I am not a ten-year old boy who needs to ask for your permission. I can decide for my own self and right now, Alana needs me so much. I will not just abandon her!”

But that did not do anything against my father.

“You are not going to see Alana until you approve of the marriage,” he said afterwards.

I remembered my own wedding invitation that he sent to me. With a bitter chuckle, I nodded and licked the blood from my mouth.

“Sure.”

The alpha king let out a guttural sound. “Do I have your word?”

“Yes, you have my word. Yes, I agree with that fucking marriage!”

I inhaled sharply and clenched my hands. I knew my father to be a shrewd one so I should have thought beforehand that he will still use this opportunity to force me to marry the woman they picked.

“And can I ask for another favor, father?”

He looked at me waiting for my request.

“I want everyone who mishandled Alana to be punished the way I like it.”

The alpha king nodded, giving me his full permission. “Consider them at your own disposal.”

“Thank you.”

We did not waste any more time and ran down the stairs into the basement where Lucas met us in the middle of the hallway.

“Alpha prince,” he said in relief when he saw me.

 “Tell me everything that happened to Alana while I was unconscious.”

And just like Francine, he went silent as if it’s too heavy for them to say anything.

That did it for me. What really happened to my mate? Why is Lucas looking at me as if he wants to apologize to me?

I grabbed his collar and couldn't help but tremble in anger. “What did Cain do to Alana?! Lucas! Tell me what happened to Alana now!”

My beta sighed hard before answering. “Alpha prince, the bastard attempted to sexually assault your mate. If I was a little later, then I am afraid he could have done his evil motive.”

“That son of a fucking bitch!”
