ALANA

Getting up with my body shaking all over, I ran to the bathroom and looked for anything to cover up the mark on my neck.

I found my make-up that I used to put on my neck before to hide William’s mark. I never thought that I would get to do the same thing again in a very different situation but this time, I really want to hide this hideous mark on my neck.

“It’s okay, Alana,” I said to myself while my tears were falling as I’m trying my hardest to steady my fingers. “He still hasn’t fully claimed you. You did not transform in front of him so he cannot really say that I am his mate.”

The powder fell out from my hand as I slowly sank into the floor with my hands on my face, crying my heart out.

“How can he be my mate when I don’t want him at all? Moon goddess, William is my only mate. He is the only person I love! He is the only man that I would ever love forever!”

“Ms. Alana.” A knock stirred me out from the turmoil of my emotions. “We really have to go. The test is starting and the queen luna is already in the forest.”

“Yes, I am coming!” I answered, trying to make my voice steady and whole.

I hurriedly covered the mark, washed my face, and came out pretending that everything is good.

The soldier, seeing some redness on my face, checked on me. “Ms. Alana, are you okay? The alpha prince instructed me to be here for you. You can tell me anything and I would relay it to him.”

And even here, William does not stop caring for me. He is really living by his promise that he would protect me.

I smiled and nodded at him. “I am perfectly fine. Thank you for asking.”

Outside, Lucas was already waiting for me in the car but instead of climbing in, I walked past him and decided to go with the soldier.

“Alana…” He caught my arms to stop me, his face apologetic. “I’m sorry for what I did to you. I swear, I did not mean for it to happen. I was just really jealous seeing you with the alpha prince.”

Furious, I yanked my arm from him like I considered it to be the greatest sin to be touched by him. He disgusted me in ways that he can never imagine.

“You don’t have the right to get jealous because you are not my mate, Lucas. You can never be. You can never replace William in my heart. You can never claim me fully because the second you do that, I will reject you in an instant,” I said with all the conviction on me and went to the car with the soldier leaving him with his head hung low and hands clenched tightly.

We arrived in the forest where the queen luna was waiting for us before the test began.

“I wonder what happened, why are you late,” Sophia said when I walked past her.

“She could be having the worst nerves ever,” Georgia claimed and stared at me especially on my neck. “After all, I am sure that after this test, Alana will be eliminated because she will finally be exposed.”

I opened my mouth to ask about it but the announcer started to explain the test.

“The fourth test will be about the connection of you with the alpha king. The queen luna thinks that it sounds biased towards Ms. Alana because she is the current mate of the alpha prince so we have upgraded a few things.”

An attendant carrying glasses with liquid in it stepped towards me.

“You have to drink this medicine that would alter your senses for an hour. For an hour, Ms. Alana, this would get rid of your connection specifically with the alpha prince to even out the odds and to make this test fair for the three of you.”

I nodded and took the medicine in one gulp. In a few seconds, I felt numbness all over my body.

“Just a reminder,” the announcer continued, “this would only work if you are mated to only one person. The test is designed with the alpha prince in mind. Any physical, mental, and emotional distraction coming from your other mates would seal your defeat immediately. We all assumed here that since you are vying for the alpha prince, then you all are mate-less to begin with. If you are mated to another werewolf or had forged any connection with anyone, then this would not work at all. I suggest you leave the competition if you are already mated to others.”

I coughed out loud as my heart began to pump out blood slowly causing my senses to gradually weigh me down too. Cold sweat began to trickle from my head down but there is no way I would back down.

“Are you all ready? Once I rang the bell, you will all run to the first station where the first trial would begin,” the queen luna asked and reached for her bell.

“Yes, queen luna!” we said in chorus.

As she rang the bell, we ran to the first station just as she instructed where the chief doctor was already waiting for us. There were three tables for each one of us.

“The instructions are very simple, ladies.” He motioned at the petri dishes on the table with swatches of blood on them. “You have to choose from all these arrays the dish that contains the blood of the alpha prince. If you successfully guessed it right, then you will automatically proceed to the next station. Now, ready, set, and go!”

I smelled each of the petri dishes, trying to choose William’s blood. I am confident that I can easily spot it since I am with him most of the time. I’m sure my nose has already memorized its scent.

But why can’t I smell anything at all? All I am smelling from them is Lucas’ blood!
