The Alpha Prince's Abused Mate Chapter 39
Alana
My hands are cold and there is a growing pit in my stomach that threatens to snarl me at any moment but I am trying my hardest to fight it off.
But then, looking at how my own family who abused me since I was a child bowing before me made me feel something.
Is it satisfaction I am feeling? Dread for what’s to come or just simply an anticipation?
I don’t know. All I know is that with each step I take towards the gated mansion that used to hold the most traumatic years of my life, the urge to run has never gotten this stronger.
“Stand straight! The new ambassadress from the capital is here for a visit!” One of the royal guards with me shouted as my father slowly lifted his head towards me.
“Welcome to our humble village, ambassad-”
The smile on his face faded and shock washed all over his face.
“A-Alana…”
Sophia immediately raised her head at me and gasped. “What?! Alana?!”
My stepmother did the same thing and has the gall to look disgusted at me.
“Alana, what are you doing here?”
I stared at them one by one. Nothing has changed. They still looked as happy and healthy as I remembered them to be. How could they do that? How could they act like they have never treated me like a beast when I was locked in the dungeon?
They have been fully released from the probation that William punished him to be according to Francine so they have not really served their sentence for abusing me.
How unfair is that? How can they act like I am the one who had committed the biggest sin against them?
“Ambassadress,” I answered before their judging and surprised looks. “Address me respectfully.”
Their mouths literally were wide open, especially Minerva who stepped in front of me, her eyes sharp on the expensive dress I am wearing.
“What the hell are you talking about?! You are just the mongrel that we imprisoned in the cage who eats our waste and leftovers. How dare you obligate us to call you ambassadress? Remember where you are! You are in front of the presence of the alpha in the pack!”
She motioned at my father whose face is devoid of any emotion.
He just stood there like a statue, still in disbelief of my presence back in the village. Looking at how he is standing there gazing at me coldly and angrily, I somehow lost the little bit of courage that I kept in my heart.
Isn’t he glad to see me whole? Isn’t he glad to see his daughter?
I felt Francine shadow cover my face as I tried to compose myself.
“And you are in front of an official ambassadress that has been officially assigned to the alpha king here. Disrespect her and you disrespect the alpha king too! Do you dare to do that?!” Francine threatened her.
Sophia hid behind dad’s back before feigning courage and spitting out her mocking words.
“But still how can we treat her with respect when she is just a mutt. She is my father’s daughter who betrayed him and all of us!”
“Shut up, Sophia,” I said in a small voice to the shock of everyone.
Lucas looked at me in surprise while Francine grinned as if saying that that’s my girl.
Minerva stepped in and pointed her fingers at me.
“How dare you say that to my daughter?!”
I just kept my head raised despite the fact that my flesh is literally vibrating. I wanted to go back to the car into William’s arms this instant.
Minerva glanced at my father who was just being uncannily silent the whole time.
“Honey, do something! You heard Alana badmouth Sophia.”
Sighing, he put an arm around Sophia. My eyes watered when he did that because he had never done such a fatherly gesture towards me. “Alana, don’t do that to your sister. Say sorry to her.”
I smiled bitterly. I know he will never love me.
“Ambassadress, Alpha Killian,” I corrected him. “Call me that. I am ranked higher than you and I could easily call for a disciplinary meeting if you try to disobey me again.”
The way his face morphed into a shocked expression somehow eased the tension inside me but when that shock turned into rage, my traumatic experiences with him returned and I felt like I am out of breath that I have to lean in towards Francine in case something happens to me.
“How could you say that to your own father, you bitch?!” Sophia hissed moving to slap me but a cold barrel of a gun stopped her from doing so.
Lucas aimed the gun at her ruthlessly. “Disrespect the ambassadress again and I will gladly bury this silver bullet into your head.”
The color in her face completely drained out of her face as she ran back into her mother’s side sobbing. Minerva bit her lips down as she looked at her alpha who breathed hard to control his emotions.
“We are sorry for what your sister did, ambassadress. I hope you will forgive her,” he said and bowed before me, an act that I deemed to be something he forced himself to do given his clenched jaws and stern body language.
One of my tutors at the castle taught me about how to read and interpret them.
“How could I do that when she has not asked for forgiveness?” I answered looking at Sophia who is still throwing me dagger eyes.
She gasped when Alpha Killian motioned her to come closer to us. “Dad! Do you seriously think I would apologize to Alana? That’s Alana! That is our dog here!”
Francine looked at me and I just nodded at her. I was able to catch a smirk from her before she swung her hand to slap hard Sophia on her cheek.
Minerva yelled while my father gritted his teeth.
“Ahh! How could you slap me?! Daddy!” Sophia sobbed as she stepped back in wide eyes holding her red cheek as if traumatized that someone was able to do that to her.
Minerva embraced Sophia who is still in a momentary shock while venting it all out to the alpha.
“Honey, please do something! How could you just let Alana insult our daughter?! Do something!”
