ALANA

“Alana, aren’t you satisfied seeing me in this dark room for days now? When would you free me from here? Please, I also have a life to live! Let me go now! Tell the alpha prince that I want to be freed now!”

Sophia hugged my leg and begged me over and over again to let her go. I visited her in the same prison that they held me captive for years to see her.

She has not showered for days and it showed on her dirty clothes and stained teeth. The once elegant lady who parties extravagantly is reduced to someone who begs for scraps like I did before.

I felt a bit dizzy seeing the same room that I suffered hell in and thought to myself how did I survive it.

It’s only been a week since William dragged her here with just water to supplement her body but I told the servants to give her enough food, at least to not make her more depressed.

I still want her to witness so many things I am going to do with her.

“Sophia, do you still remember how I told you the same things when I was locked here? Let me outside to see the sun. Let me have the freedom to at least live a normal life. But what did you do? You requested dad and your mother to forever imprison me here saying that I would take everything from you. Sophia, you are the one who took everything from me!”

Her tears fell as she tightened her hands around my legs. “You and I are different, Alana! You are used to being here while I do not know this world. I am going to die at this rate! Please, take me out of here, I am begging you!”

Kicking off her hands from my legs, I straightened my back and stared at her crying face. I only want to hear apologies from her for what she’d done to me. I only want to hear her sincere apologies. Is it really that hard to do that?

Do I really not deserve to hear those things from her? Do I deserve all the things they did to me?

“You don’t know how hard it was for me when I was in your place, Sophia. I kept on asking myself if I do not deserve any of the good things in life but William changed it for me. He showed me that no one deserves to be treated that way.”

“But do I really have to experience what you went through? For you it was horrible so why do you want me to experience it too? Aren’t you being too cruel to your sister, Alana?”

And now she’s calling me her sister when years ago, she always referred to me as her ugly pet and mutt.

Pushing her back to the floor, I gave her a grin.

“You haven’t learned your lesson yet so I guess you needed to be locked in here for the time being. Goodbye and enjoy this wonderful place all alone for yourself.”

“No!” Sophia ran after me but a guard swiftly stopped her. “Alana, no! Don’t leave me here! Please, take me with you! I miss daddy and mommy already! I want to hug them so bad! Please, Alana! Take me with you!”

I hurriedly went out of the room so as not to hear her pleas anymore. My heart is not really as hard as I want her to see.

“It’s okay, Alana. It’s okay,” I kept on saying to myself while trying not to cry.

My heart is so heavy because I saw myself in her shoes.

“Don’t let her go easily.”

I turned around to the voice coming from a man whose hand was held out towards me. “Cain.”

He took my hand and put his handkerchief on it. “Dry your tears, Alana. Crying for horrible people like her is not worth any of it.”

Sniffing, I wiped my tears away. It felt so raw to be able to let someone see me cry. Before, it was only William who’s able to witness it.

“That Sophia woman. She is your sister, right? I am telling you don’t let her go easily. I know the horrible things she did to you. I can’t imagine anyone I know ever going through that all by herself. They are simply evil.”

He walked near me and gripped my shoulders. “I am here to help you, Alana. That is the sole duty the alpha king gave me because he is worried for you. You cannot keep on relying on the alpha prince because he is a very busy individual. You cannot keep on asking him to do things for you, Alana. No need for you to do that because I am here with you now.”

He smiled at me and touched my face but I quickly shoved his hand away. “Don’t do that to me,” I said firmly. “Friends don’t do that to each other.”

“I’m sorry,” he said, stepping back. “I just want to calm you so bad because I am your friend.”

I did not say anything and kept my eyes on the ground. He’s right. William has so many responsibilities and I cannot keep on interrupting him.

But William made me promise to rely on him, to tell him everything, and to ask help from him. I cannot just stop doing that because we are mates. As he said, we are only one.

I raised my head to tell him that William would always be my protector but he spoke to me first. “I won’t tell anyone that I saw you kissing the alpha prince. That would be our little secret.”

I gasped in shock. William wants to keep our relationship a secret for now so nobody should know that!

“Thank you so much, Cain.”

“It’s okay, Alana.” He patted my head gently. “I told you already, right? You and I are friends. I am not here as your enemy but a friend. I am on your side so you can rely on me instead of William.”
