“Alana! Alana!”

I ran to the balcony, to every corner of my quarters but I haven’t seen Alana. I even went to the garden and outside the vicinity of the castle to search for her but she is nowhere to be found.

At that point, the beating of my heart is uncontrollable already. My head is throbbing and I felt so lightweight already.

Cold sweat trickled down my neck and I felt so out of control of my whole mind. When I couldn't take it anymore because I felt like exploding thinking that Alana left the castle without me knowing, I ran back outside.

“Francine, mobilize the troops. Alana is missing!”

“Right away, alpha prince!”

With the royal guards sneaking at every nook and cranny of the whole castle, I also did not stop from looking for her. I thought of every place she could have gone to or hide inside but everywhere I went, I was not able to see her until I reached the lake inside the castle’s vicinity.

“Alana! Alana!” I shouted at the top of my lungs but my voice only echoed back.

I sighed and sat on the mown grass in exhaustion. Where are you Alana? Please come out now.

From the side of my eyes, I saw a figure lying under the shade of the tree that I instantly stand up to run towards whoever it was. To my relief, I saw my mate peacefully sleeping, her long hair swaying against the night summer air.

“Alana…” I said in so much relief and watched her sleeping, her lips parted innocently.

She stirred, sensed my presence and opened her eyes.

“Wi… alpha prince… what are you doing here?”

I lay next to her still gasping for breath.  “I’ve been looking for you. Where have you been all these hours?”

She moved away from me to fix her face and put some strands of her hair to cover her face. That broke me but I let her be for a few seconds.

“I am just here sleeping under the tree because the air is so fresh here. And I was looking at the beautiful stars above. Look!” She pointed at the sky above to distract me from her but I did not peel my gaze away from her.

In a swift motion, I pulled her to my arms and pinned her to the ground sniffing her scent and feeling her wolf inside her.

“William, why are you breathing so heavily? Is your heart functioning well? Are you okay?” she was concerned about me.

“No, I was not okay earlier but now I am okay because I have already seen you. I am more than okay now. Please don’t do that again, okay? Please don’t scare me. I can’t think of anything if I can’t see you. I thought you had run away already.”

“Run away? Why would I do that?”

She peeked at me in curiosity.

“Because I hurt you. I denied that you are my mate in front of the inspector when I should have been proudly parading you to them. You are my mate whom I have waited for years and yet I am hiding you in my own room.”

It felt like I just transferred her to a bigger, cleaner, and prettier prison that is why I felt so guilty.

I helped her to sit up but kept my arms around her waist. She did not have any idea how relieved I am now. I thought she really left me for good! And even if that happened, I would just search the whole world to find her.

“I admit that I was hurt but thinking about that now, I do not feel any hurt now William. I trust you. I know you have your reasons. You are just protecting me and yourself so it’s okay.”

“I am sorry that I hurt you and thank you for understanding the situation but I promise you that I will make sure that everyone will know that you are my mate in the soonest possible way. I will make sure I can hold your hand in the daylight for everyone to see.”

She snickered and took my hand inside hers. I squeezed them inside while our eyes were speaking words to each other.

“You are already holding my hand tightly, William. I will never let go of it. Never mind if it’s nighttime or daytime.”

My cheeks flushed in red. Oh crap! I did not know that I could still blush at this age!

“Oh, that just made my heart swell,” I said and scratched my head.

Alana looked at me in worry. “Is your heart okay? Should we go to the doctor for a check-up?” she asked innocently.

The whole place was filled with my loud laughter but it soon died down slowly when my eyes lingered on her plump lips.

“You look so cute. Can I kiss you?” I whispered, my head lowering down to hers.

But instead of answering, she just watched me with curious eyes.

I paused waiting for a no from her and when I did not hear any, I angled her chin and closed my eyes.

“There you are.”

I buried my face into her neck cursing when I heard that voice.

“Francine!” Alana stood up to meet my nanny cum manager.

“Francine,” I said rather disappointingly and sighed.

Why would she ruin the perfect moment for me? Argh!

“Were you looking for me?” Alana asked her in bitten lips.

“Yes, we are our lady.”

“I’m sorry. The air here is so fresh and I fell asleep.”

“It’s okay our lady. Now I will escort you back.”

Alana looked at me to ask for permission and I could only smile and nod at her.

After the royal guards took my mate away, I slumped back on the grass and let out a sigh.

“Alpha prince…”

“What?” I asked her, still pissed.

Francine just grinned and sat next to me clearly knowing why I am acting like this.

“Did you tell her already? Did she know?”

“About what?” I asked, still annoyed.

She could have come up a little later!

“That you are already promised to the lady from the north, alpha prince. The longer you hold this truth out from Alana, the more painful it will be for her so I suggest you decide now to admit to the alpha king that you found your mate or continue hiding her here and keeping her in the dark.”

I fell into silence as the face of the princess came into my head.

Francine is right. I am already betrothed to another woman.
