ALANA

Cold and out of life, William remained in my arms for as long as I can remember. I just stared at his pale face emptily feeling nothing of his aura anymore.

I did not let anyone near him. I would growl and snarl at every individual who might attempt to take him away from me.

“I love you, William. I always will.”

I watched as his life slipped away from him, taking all of my will to live too.

Gathering up all that was left of me, I stood up and locked eyes with Zuleik’s dead face.

“This is all your fault...” I whispered when I picked up the silver on the ground and ran towards his dead body.

“This is all your fault!” I began stabbing his body using the silver, not caring if I am butchering him like a pig. “Because of you, William is dead! Because of what you did, I cannot hear his voice anymore! Because of you, we cannot make our promises for each other anymore!”

The whole crowd stopped just to watch me kill Zuleik over and over again. I don’t care if I am literally butchering his body. I don’t care if everyone thinks I am a cruel and ruthless killer. I don’t care if no one will talk to me from now on!

I don't even want to live now because my William is already gone.

The thought made me stop stabbing Zuleik. Clasping my face and pouring myself out, I screamed on top of my lungs to let my grief out.

“How could you be so unfair to me?!” I asked, looking up at the sky. “Why do you have to let them kill the only person who has been kind to me? How could you take the only person who has ever shown me love all my life? I did not know how to feel love until he came into my life and rescued me from my past? How could you take my William from me when you know that he is the only man for me?! How could you take both of us from this world?!”

I wept and wept, uncaring of how my surroundings had grown quieter until I heard the footsteps in front of me.

“Alana…” I felt the queen luna’s hand on my shoulder. “Come on now. The war is over.”

Lifting my eyes to the weeping mother of William, something struck me when I stared at her red face and eyes filled with tears. That’s right. There are people in this world who are mourning William more than I do now.

She must be hurting more than I do now. She is his mother. She was the one who brought him to the world!

I knelt in front of her and bowed my head to the ground while my tears are falling uncontrollably.

“I’m sorry, queen luna. I’m sorry for letting your son die. I let the alpha prince die! I was not able to save him like he always does on me.”

I choked on my own tears but I still continued. “He did all the things for me but I failed to save him this time! We promised forever but we have no way of fulfilling that one. I’m sorry, queen luna. I am really really sorry.”

Her trembling blood-stained hands found my chin and lifted it up so I could meet her eyes.

“It’s us who should say sorry, Alana. The alpha king and I were so scared that the past is going to haunt us that we sacrificed the happiness of our son. We saw how he’s so happy to be with you. His eyes twinkled in joy every time he’s talking about you but we still proceeded to erase your memories in his head.”

Her tears continued falling as she glanced at the dead body of William with the alpha king by his side, his back on us, with his shoulders shuddering.

“We killed our son, Alana. It’s us who did it… his parents who vowed to love him killed our only son.”

She caressed my face and tried her very best to smile at me. “Thank you for coming into my son’s life and making him happy. You don’t know how happy he was when his dream of having a mate finally came true. You made him feel fulfilled, Alana. It’s just unfortunate that we still chose to sabotage that happiness because of our own selfish reasons.”

She hugged me so tight as we poured our emotions out.

I just know that there will be no moving on from him. The day that he died is the same day that I sealed my heart away for him.

The palace werewolves cleared all of the dead bodies from the palace and safely brought back the people who evacuated.

The traitors Lucas, Sophia, and Minerva as well as their accomplices were locked up in the basement all awaiting punishment from the alpha king after William’s burial ceremony.

News reached the other alphas on the ground who swiftly came into the palace to mourn what happened to the alpha prince.

I was instructed by the queen luna to dress William but I can’t even look at his face without passing out.

I want to do that last final act of love with him but I just can’t see him without crying my eyes out.

That’s why I decided to just stay in our room to feel his presence again. I hugged his clothes to sleep and replayed our moments over and over again.

The door opened and the nurse came in pushing Francine in her wheelchair.

Seeing her, my tears welled again. Running towards her and putting my head on her lap while William’s clothes are in my arms, I began crying again.

“Francine… He’s gone. William is gone. My William is gone.”

To my surprise, I felt Francine’s hand on my head as she slowly caressed it.

“William is meant to die, Alana. That is why I am here. I am alive now, child.”
