WILLIAM

It felt like someone had pushed me down a cliff and I fell to the abyss where I was greeted by a light that hugged me briefly.

The memories flashed before me in a speed of light from the moment I found her in the dungeon where she was chained down and was in the most godforsaken state to when I brought her the first time to the palace and told her she was the one I have been waiting for my whole life.

“Alana, you are my mate.”

I panted for air as her hands tightened around my neck. But even if she stops, I will only offer my blood to her again and again.

More memories came to me like when I chased after her back into her village, and when I learned about the truth of her identity and her strange behavior as a hybrid lycan and werewolf.

We cannot be together according to the standards of our status and clans but no one can separate us.

We were allergic to each other and with every second that we are together, it only gets more painful but that did not stop us from loving each other even more.

“Do you trust me, Alana?”

I remembered how I finally admitted to everyone that she is my mate, of how my heart swelled with pride to proudly call her my mate out into the open.

But that happiness did not last long because of the series of the tests that my mother subjected her to. And because I cannot just stand there while watching her suffer, I was forced to reject her but that did not diminish my love for her.

What we had is beyond our bond as mates. What we had is the most beautiful thing that has nourished me for the whole of my lifetime.

And the final memory that I remembered is the last few hours before I literally died body and soul, of how the people that I thought would be there for me turned their backs on us.

After my own father stabbed me in my heart to stop my further descent into chaos and madness, he called for the strongest of his alphas to keep me down to the floor.

“Bind the alpha prince now! He is still dazed from the rejection process that is why he is acting like this!”

I know he did not intend to kill me. He just severed a vein there momentarily so I could be stopped from being brandished as a traitor for attempting to kill the alpha king. I decided that that is the easiest and best way so I could be with her.

I don’t want to be the alpha prince anymore. I just want to be free from this responsibility. I just want to be free to love Alana outside these walls but my father was too shrewd to notice it and put matters into his hands.

The alphas came up to me to pin me down with silver chains as if they already prepared for this to happen.

“William, I’ve prepared the escape route for you and Alana,” Francine whispered into my ears while she’s freeing me from the chains in the dungeon. “I will take both of you there.”

“Where is Alana, Francine? Is she safe?” I asked the second she freed me.

She smiled and touched my head. “Yes, she is safe. Now go and be happy with your lives out there. I will delay the soldiers.”

I nodded and thanked her as I opened the door only to stop in our tracks when I saw my parents looking at Francine.

“We are so disappointed with you, Francine. How could you do this to us?!”

I stood up in front of Francine to protect her from the wrath of my father.

“It was my decision, father. I am the one who told her to do this.”

But Francine tapped my shoulders and met my father’s fiery eyes. “Alpha king, let them live their lives loving each other. Why do you have to hold it against your own son?”

My father clenched his hands together. “No one can tell me what is the best thing for my son! William is my heir and the next alpha king! I will not let any woman ruin him just like this!”

He grabbed my neck and injected something into my body. In an instant, I fell to the floor clutching my heart that began to beat slowly.

“William!” My mother and Francine caught me right in time.

From my hazy vision, I saw Lucas appear beside my father and glanced at me. “I will tell Alana that the alpha prince has died, alpha king.”

“Lucas! Don’t do that! Do not dare!” I could only yell in my head while staring at my own beta betraying me outrightly.

“Do that! Tell the woman that the alpha prince has died so she could also move on with her life,” my father ordered while everything went dark for me.

The next time I wake up, I am back in my room with Francine pacing back and forth. “Francine, where is Alana?” I asked and stood up despite the world literally spinning for me.

“I don’t know, William. I don’t know!” she answered panicking. “They would not let us out. They practically locked us in here.”

Dread washed over me at the possibilities that entered in my head. I only had my mind on Alana and the fact that Lucas must have told her about that lie is crippling me. With the little energy I had left, I pushed myself to walk to the door but Francine stopped me.

“There is a better way,” she muttered and bit my wrist.

I felt the sudden urge of energy into my body and I was able to transform into my wolf to my surprise.

“No questions now, William,” Francine said and hopped on my back. “Let us find Alana now!”

We surged through the glass out of my room into the mountains where her scent is leading me.

“Let us split!” Francine said when we reached the place.

“Alana!” I shouted calling for her name in panic. “Alana, it’s William! I am here now, my love.”

But I got no response from her.

“Alana!” I heard Francine said her name so I ran to find her only to see my mate whom I promised to protect falling into her death right in front of me.

“Alana! No!” My voice pierced into the whole place as I shifted back into my wolf to try to save her but to no avail.

I was not able to save my mate. I was not able to keep my promise to her. I failed her.

I found myself the next day staring emptily into the white ceiling, my hand clutching the piece of clothing that they managed to recover from the site of the fall.

This was the only thing I have left of Alana.

“What do you need me to do, alpha king?” I heard the chief doctor ask but I remained motionless.

“Make him forget about that woman. Make sure he does not remember any of the things about her,” my father replied in the coldest tone I ever heard of him.

“I will not forget Alana! No matter what you do, I will still remember her no matter what. Even in my death, she will be the last thing in my mind.”

“Do it,” the alpha king ordered. “Make sure it will be a success.”

“Alpha king! Please, do not do this! Have mercy to our son! He is our only child!” my mother cried from my side but I did not dare to look at her.

“My queen luna, you do not know what you are talking about. I will not let our son be like this forever. He is the next alpha king!”

My mother could only cry her heart out for me.

And the procedure happened and I forgot about Alana for the last five years.

She’s done drinking my blood and is now sleeping soundly in my chest while my heart could burst from all the memories that I successfully got back.

My face is drenched with tears as I brushed her hair while gasping for air, trying my might not to explode with all the emotions inside me now.

My Alana is alive and I am holding her back in my arms. The moon goddess brought her back to me.

“Alana, I’m sorry for forgetting you. I’m sorry for not remembering you until now, my love,” I whispered into her ears.

“I’m so sorry that it took me five years to finally remember you.”
