ALANA

The door of my room creaked open but I continued pretending that I was asleep. I did not panic or scream because I already knew who he was with his smell that was constricting my throat with emotion. 

His scent is the only thing that I want to sniff right now for sleep to set in on me but as unfortunate as it seems, I still do not want to talk to him now.

My heart is still heavy with envy. I heard from Sophia that William gave her the best treatment like a princess in the restaurant. It doesn’t make sense to me since William knows how Sophia abused me.

She has been bragging about that to the entire mansion and of course to me saying that the alpha prince is still mateless until now and rumors have it that he will be married to another woman this year regardless if he finds his mate or not.

That woman could be her since she was one of the promised girls to the alpha prince.

I wanted to tell them that he has already found his mate, that it was me all along which explains how he cares and loves me so much but I do not have the courage to say that because even William doesn’t admit to anything.

There are only two people other than us who know that we are each other’s mates.

I felt the bed move to my side as his heavenly mint scent assaulted all my senses. Sighing, he brushed my hair aside and stared at me.

“I’m sorry for ignoring you yesterday. I’m sorry for not talking to you.”

He leaned in to kiss my ear.

“I’m sorry for making you cry,” he whispered while drying the remaining tears on my cheeks with his lips. “I’m sorry for being such a jerk to you. I was just too jealous because I thought that you don’t need me anymore because Alana, I will always need you. Forever and always.”

I clenched my hand under the blanket and kept my eyes shut. Good thing the lights are turned off and I am lying to my side while hugging a pillow so he won’t know that I am just acting.

“You might be thinking that I am mad at you for coming here but I understand you now, Alana. You need this for yourself. You need to do this to heal. I was just too selfish that time because I want you all for myself. In my defense, I want to protect you and shield you away from those people. I thought everything would be okay and you would be able to heal that way. But now, I know better. You need your answers to your questions. You need to have justice.”

My tears fell with his words. I have always known that William is a very understanding man. Back at the castle, he would always ask for my opinion, for my preference on things. He always asks me about things even though he knows that my knowledge is very limited.

In the months that have passed, he has already taken me to countless places, sneaking me out onto official meetings so I could have an idea what is going on with his life.

He took my hand and kissed it repeatedly. “It’s okay if you still won’t talk to me. Take all your time. I will just be here pursuing you, supporting you in everything that you do. Alana, I swear, I will give you the justice you deserve in your own way. I want you to have the power to decide for yourself. I want you to have your autonomy back. I don’t want you to be boxed anymore. I want you to bloom just like the flower that you are.”

I don’t know what autonomy means but it feels such a positive word that warms my heart. And he thinks that I am a flower? My cheeks flushed. Do I really smell and look that good in his eyes?

I decided to open my eyes to let him know that I was awake all this time but he already stood up from the bed. I thought he was going to leave already but my disappointment flew into the window when I saw him gently slipping my blanket aside. He sat on the side of my foot and reached for my knee.

“You should always be careful. Please, as much as possible, don’t get hurt anymore.”

I felt a cold liquid on the site of my wound. He’s applying an ointment around it. Despite its coldness, I felt warm all over.

I… I just want to hug him so tight to feel his beating heart against mine and look into his deep eyes.

“On another note, I think you can let yourself be hurt because I will always be here to catch you. You can always lean on me, Alana. I could be an idiot stupid man sometimes but there’s only one thing I could never be. That is to betray you. I would never betray your trust in me.”

I felt him putting a band-aid on my knee before covering me back with the blanket. And then he went back to my side to fix my hair.

“Thank you for cooking my favorite food. I ate it all. A little too sweet but from now on, that will be my favorite taste. Please, make more food for me. Will you do that for me? Hmm?”

He chuckled afterwards. “Sleep tight, okay?”

He leaned in again to kiss me on my forehead.

“Goodnight, Alana.”

And then I heard his steps receding and the opening of the door in a very careful manner so as not to wake me.

In an instant, I stood up from the bed and ran to him, hugging him from behind and burying my face into his back.

Oh, this felt so out of this world. His scent, his warm body against mine are just what I need after a stressful day.

I must be nuts for thinking that I could survive another night without making up with him.

“Don’t go, please,” I begged him, tears cascading down my face. “Stay with me, William.”
