ALANA

“Alana…” he called my name with his raspy low voice as if trying to figure out if I am real or not.

I just stood there, in so much awe at the truth that he is finally back to me. William is alive! William has come back to life. He is back to me! William has come back from the dead for me.

With trembling hands, I placed a hand on his cheek relishing the warmth in it. I am trying to convince myself to believe that this heat is going to be there for years while trying to forget that for once, I held his cold body in my arms.

“You are back to me, William,” I said in a trance, my mouth breaking up into a smile of relief. “William, you have really come back for me!”

In a split of a second, I pulled him ever gently in my arms, careful with his limbs, scared that once I blink, I would just wake up from this dream.

“Alana?” he called for my name but I did not respond.

Burying my face on his neck, I inhaled his scent. It’s warm and intoxicating just like all the moments that we have been together.

It’s soothing and calming just how he held me back then. It’s sweet and refreshing just like he always cared for me then.

I felt his hands caressing my back before a chuckle came out of his mouth.

“What a good mate. You just brought me back alive, my dear. You made sure that I am going to fulfill my promises to you.”

I closed my eyes and pressed my forehead on his. Oh, how good it is to hear his voice.

It’s alive. It’s lively. It’s music to my ears.

Cupping his face, staring at every single part of his face, inculcating in my mind that he is breathing, that he is not pale anymore, that he is talking.

William is no longer dead. He is alive. Alive for himself, for me, and for the promises that we said unto each other.

“You are right. I made sure to call you back from the dead because I can’t just let you go there without fulfilling your promises to me!”

My tears are already falling from my eyes again as I relive the very moment when he turned cold in my lap days ago.

“I can’t just let you die, William, when you tell me that you will make me happy. You haven’t even married me! You haven’t even fulfilled all your promises to me! We haven’t even had all the time in the world to date each other. I want endless dinner dates, romantic walks, and travels to every part of the world.”

I clenched my hands around her firm arms. “I want us to do what normal couples do. I want us to see strange places with our children.”

His face softened upon hearing me say the word children.

“I want us to create a beautiful and big happy family,” I continued saying my part while he just continued wiping my tears with the palm of his hands. “I want us to love each other until the sunsets of our lives.”

“Hush,” he said laughing at me while drying my tears out. “I’m sorry that I died. Don’t worry, the next time that that is going to happen, I will make sure to make a bargain with the devil to let me come back again and again so I could be with you until the end of the times. Thank you for calling me back. Thank you for guiding me back here. I saw you there, Alana.”

I blinked remembering Francine when he said that. How could he say that? Didn’t he meet her there? Didn’t he not realize by now that Francine was the guardian of the werewolves?

I paused, the color of my face completely draining from my face. William noticed it and got worried.

“Alana? What’s wrong?”

I held his hand, my heartbeat was in chaos.

“But it’s not just because of me that’s why you are back from the dead, William. It’s because of…”

I turned around to tell him that it’s largely because of Francine and how she has the last page of the diary but the woman is no longer there… and so is the diary and its last page in my pocket.

She vanished without any trace and left together with the evidence of my ties with the former alpha king.

“But… where is Francine?” I muttered, perplexed and confused at the same time.

Her body should be here. The traces of her presence should be here.

Why did she leave without even saying goodbye to William? Why didn’t she have the chance to see for the last time the boy she cared for his whole lifetime?

She is supposed to be here with us even for her last breath. We should have the right to send her off as valiantly as possible.

“William!” The queen luna hollered in disbelief seeing her son very much alive in front of her.

The alpha king and the queen luna burst into tears when they saw William standing in the middle of the room, his arm around my shoulder.

“Mother. Father,” he recognized them.

“William!” the queen luna shrieked and ran to embrace him.

The alpha king, still shocked, followed suit and hugged his son.

“I don’t know what happened but I thank the moon goddess above for the miracle that this is!” he uttered and continued embracing William.

William just smiled and pulled me in so the four of us are hugging each other.

Amidst the emotion, the cries and the overwhelming rejoicing, my eyes trailed towards the place where Francine used to be.

The blood where was supposed to be on the floor is no longer there.

No one seemed to notice even the gradual disappearance of her presence.

With a confused look, I glanced at the three of them.

Why does no one seem to remember Francine?
