ALANA

I just sighed and settled myself in the hard frame of William when his arms enveloped around me. We were back in the cabin just looking at the serene crystal lake.

“You have been thinking for a little over an hour now.” He kissed my neck and sniffed my scent. “Do not worry about my father. I will be there with you.”

I faced him and put my arms around his waist.

“That is not what I am actually thinking now. I have so much faith in our love that facing the alpha king is not something that would scare me now. I could even tell him the truth and I would not flinch. That’s how much I trust this love we have for each other.”

Running a finger through my hair, he gazed at my face lovingly. “What are you thinking? God, I want to sacrifice everything just so I could have access to your head again.”

He chuckled afterwards but I answered him seriously.

“Alpha Killian.”

His smile disappeared and his arms around me got tighter.

“Why are you thinking about him?”

I took a long breath before answering. “He’s always been the biggest trigger of my condition. With him, I always lose myself. I feel so small and scared when he’s around. I tend to blackout and do the unthinkable every time he tells me that I am not his daughter. The trauma I lived around him is still fresh. It’s still has its pus pulsating inside me

I blinked and gasped when I felt warm tears escaping my eyes that he gently wiped with the back of his hand.

“Do you want to see him?”

I cleared my throat and lifted my eyes at him. “Can I?”

“Only if you want to,” he whispered, his eyes telling me something that made the urge to see that man grow.

“Yes, I want to see him,” I confirmed bravely.

He opened the window and tilted his head towards the green luscious forests beyond us.

“Want to hop on my back?”

I nodded while smiling. “I won’t ever say no.”

With that, he jumped into the window and shifted into his wolf while I joined him in a split of a second. I landed on his back perfectly and I hugged his perfectly furry wolf head as we split into the stillness of the night.

The journey seemed dangerous but with the alpha prince, nothing seemed to scare me at all. The beasts could chase us and I would never ever feel one bit of fear.

William brought me to a mountain, one that I have ever been to for the first time. The guards immediately opened the heavy gates before us and led us to the furthermost part of the mines where a tall man was pounding at a rock face.

“Is that…” I paused and put a hand on my mouth when I cannot understand what I am feeling at the moment. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would see him like this.

I looked at William with tears on my face. “Is that him?”

William nodded and held my trembling hands. “Yes, that is Alpha Killian, Alana.”

I panted for air as I looked at the man again. That is Alpha Killian? How can those frail arms be his? How can those legs who are always clean and strong be this dirty?

“But why? Why does he look like a completely different person now, William?” I covered my mouth when a cry came out. I just cannot understand how this would happen to him.

I have always pictured him as some kind of authority that I always fear but now… looking at his situation, all of that is gone.

He’s wearing patchy clothes and I bet he didn’t get to eat his favorite crab dish again in this place where slaves and other criminals toil forever. It’s a lifetime sentence and I don’t know how he got here.

“He has been here in the mining site digging rocks for his project,” William answered while I was still busy staring at the man who seemed to not mind that he is the only one left in the area that is still digging for rocks.

“What project?”

“He’s building a whole house for you and your mother.”

I gasped again. For me and my mother? “Why? Why does he have to do that?”

“He’s atoning for his sins, Alana. After I cut off his tongue and he started living as a disabled, he suddenly requested the alpha king to put him here. The rocks and the gems that he will find here will be used to build and adorn the house for you and your mother’s memory.”

I fell silent for minutes reconciling my past and the present that I just heard. What happened to him? Did conscience finally strike him?

“How long has he been here?” I asked amidst the hundred questions in my head.

“More than five years already starting from the time when you died.”

I clenched my hands and watched when a genuine smile cracked on his face when he unearthed a gem and held it up against the moonlight.

I am having a hard time believing that it was really him. The abuser who constantly whipped and abused me back then could not be the man in front of me now.

“William, would you judge me if I tell you that I don’t feel any feelings for him anymore? Anger? I don’t know. Pity? Not that at all.”

He sighed and brushed my hair as if he really knew what I was feeling. “Alana, it is not your responsibility to obligate yourself to feel bad for him. What he is now, what he is experiencing now is not enough to compensate for what he did to you.”

Our conversation was interrupted with a call that William immediately took.

“What happened? Who is that?” I asked, sensing that something is wrong with the change of his body movement.

He looked at me and gripped my hand. “The alpha king is looking for us now.”
