The kiss deepened as he carried me and laid me down onto the grasses where he cupped my face and literally devoured my mouth like he has been deprived of contact for years.

“You are back into my life and I could not thank the moon goddess for safely bringing you back into my life,” he said while caressing my face.

His voice is cracked as if he is going to cry at any second. Pressing his forehead on mine, he sniffed my scent and aligned his breathing with mine.

“I’m sorry for forgetting you, my love. I’m sorry for letting you alone all those years that I am not with you.”

I immediately pushed him away the second he said that and sat up while fixing the strap of my dress.

What the hell is he talking about? Although my heart and body are reacting positively to his touch, his words confused the hell out of me.

What the fuck is he talking about? Is he talking about fated mates? But we are not like that. I already have a mate and it’s considered to be a jinx. And royal werewolves are known to only have one mate throughout their lives so it would not be possible unless…

I threw him a suspicious look. Does he think that I am his deceased mate? Is that what this loving gaze is all about?

“Alpha prince, please don’t play with me this way.”

I stood up and dusted off the dirt on my dress. I felt insulted being used like that. s

He blinked and tried to take my hand but I took a step backwards.

“Ala…”

“I know I am your whore,” I cut him off not wanting to hear her name. “I know you bought my life and you can do anything you wanted with me because you paid for me. I know that I am a mere tool you are using but please, do not give me mixed signals. Whore or not, you should be clear about where I stand in your life and you very well know that I am the former. I am just your bed warmer, alpha prince.”

“Alana…” he whispered and tried to hold my hand again but failed when he saw annoyance displayed all over my face.

“Alana? Who is she? Is she the person you want to forget?” I asked not to try to sound displeased but I guess it went through given the small upward scale of the side of his mouth.

“Are you trying to make her alive through me, alpha prince?” I asked again while not trying to mask my pissed face since the alpha prince is not grinning from ear to ear.

What’s with him now? Why does he look so amused now? Is it funny? Did he find it funny to make me the representation of his dead mate? He does really think little of me.

“I’ve heard rumors about the mate that you wanted to forget after her death. Is that her name?” I cleared my throat before saying that very beautiful name that I found to be too difficult to hate. “Alana?”

“She is not dead.” He looked at me from head to toe and smiled. “I know that Alana is alive.”

That only fueled my anger. He is not really hiding it in the broad light! He really wanted to think that I am his dead mate! “And so, you wanted her to be alive through me, alpha prince? Do you want to continue fooling yourself that she is alive through me? Can you even remember her name? The memories you have with each other?”

I didn't really expect it when he laughed in happiness while fervently nodding. “Yes… yes, I do remember it all now. I regret having forgotten about her but the moon goddess did not let me completely forget her because she did something so we could cross paths again.”

I pulled my hands from him and shook my head to prove a point that I will never be the placeholder of a dead person. I still have some ounce of self-respect left in me.

“I am not Alana. I am not her. I am not your mate. She’s dead, alpha prince. Please, do not mistake me for someone who is long gone from this world. I am just your whore, remember?”

But instead of getting angry at me, he just gently caressed my face while still sporting that freaking adorable smile on his handsome face. “You look so beautiful.”

“Please, alpha prince…” I tried to get away from him but he firmly planted his hands all over me.

“And ethereal as ever,” he spoke while admiring my face. “How could I have ever forgotten your face? It should be impossible, right?”

“I am not your mate,” I stressed again on his face. “I am not the woman you are trying to forget, okay? I am a prostitute, remember?”

But that is still not enough to stop his delusions that he made up his mind to think of. “You can be anyone you think you are now, my love.” He kissed my forehead that sent shockwaves into my whole system. “Live that life while I will always go to you, reaching out my hand towards you.”

He lifted our clasped hands to show it to me.

“See how my face livens up for you?” He put our entwined hands on his chest. “Hear this beating of my heart? It has and will always just beat for you.”

I opened my mouth to deny it again but the voice from a soldier behind us stopped me.

“Alpha prince, you are being summoned back into the palace because the alpha king and the queen luna have safely arrived.”

I felt his body stiffened against me upon hearing that. I don’t know why but I feel dread all over me. The alpha prince noticed it and squeezed my hand in his. I looked up at him and saw the assurance on his face.

“It’s okay. I swear I knew better this time, Alana.”
