ARIA

“Please remember it. Please!”

I tossed in my bed when that dream visited me again. I know I am already awake but cannot open my eyes because I want to see the faces of the two people who were chasing after me.

“Please, remember it! please!”

And then I opened my eyes, gasping for air when I felt like someone had pushed me down the valley.

Sitting on the bed, I wiped off the sweat in my head and sighed.

My plan is a wreck again. I did not get to see their faces again.

“What’s wrong, Aria? Is it the dreams again?”

I looked up at my attendant in my room who quickly handed me a glass of water.

Gulping it all down, I nodded afterwards and stared out of the window where the lights from the other houses of the pack started to come to life. For us, lycans, our days can start as early as midnight.

“Yes, Lola. It seemed like they were coming to me more frequently this time.”

I stood up to open the windows and raised my head to the full moon above the sky.

The dreams came in fragments months ago until they became snippets and then full-blown scenes of me running and being chased by a man and a woman.

Are they the one who caused my accident that is why I still can’t fully remember my life years ago?

They said I was busy hunting for food in the mountains when two werewolves attacked me out of nowhere causing

“Aria, do not force yourself to know everything.” She put a hand on my back and caressed it to soothe me. “Sometimes, it’s better to not know everything. It’s for your own sake, Aria. Do not get too curious about things, okay?”

My forehead creased at her words but I let it slide for now. Facing her, I stared at the mark on her neck and touched my neck absentmindedly.

“Lola, can I ask you something?”

“Yes, anything. You can ask me anything, luna.”

“What am I like before the accident? Are the changes drastic? Am I cheerful? Funny? Am I a good person?” I reached for her hands and caught her eyes to remain on me. “My mind is a total blank and I want to fill it with memories and facts about myself. Please, tell me, Lola. Tell me everything.”

But her eyes stayed blank just like all the other lycans every time they looked at me.

She fixed my hair and forced herself to smile at me. “You are the mate and luna of the next lycan king, Aria. You have a responsibility to unite our lycan brothers and sisters that are scattered across the state. That is all you have to know, okay? Forget about trying to know about your past because it’s useless. You cannot go back to that time so what purpose would it serve, right?”

What she said rang something in my ears that I did not like.

“What did you say?” I glared at her. “I should forget about my past? Who are you to say that? Who are you to say that it’s useless? Who are you to tell me something like that, huh?!”

Her eyes widened when she heard that because it was the first time for me to bite back at her silent manipulation. What is it with my past that she wants to conceal so badly? Now, I am just more curious as ever to know about it.

She can only bow her head and bit her lower lip. “I-I’m sorry, Aria. I really do.”

But my head remained raised. “From now on, do not try to treat me like I am some kind of child, Lola. And if I ask you again to tell me about my past, you have to answer me, okay?”

She nodded profusely. “Y-Yes, Aria.”

She left my quarters afterwards and I can only sit back on my bed pulling at my hair in frustration.

The door opened and even though I don’t want to feel disgust with the person, that is really what I am feeling every time I get to see my mate.

Zuleik, the lycan prince, sat on the bed and hugged me from the back.

He tried to kiss my neck as his hands roamed along my arms. I know what he wants already. Even without him saying it, I know he wants to do the thing that I cannot force myself to give to him.  

My whole body froze with his touch and I had the urge to vomit. Because I cannot continue letting him touch me with his hands, I pushed him away and stood up.

“Please stop, Zuleik. I am not yet ready.”

I took my robe and wrapped it around my body that just won’t respond to him in a good way. Sometimes, I ask myself if he is really my mate but the mark on my neck says it all that he is really my mate.

He sighed harshly and groaned.

“You are not ready again! You are not always ready!” He clutched my wrist tightly. “Aria, when will you be ready for me?! I have been waiting for you for years now to be ready with me!”

“So, would you force yourself on me? I told you already that I want my whole life back before I want to marry you. I want my whole memories back. Can’t you wait a little bit?”

His jaws clenched as he opened the door in anger. “You are not going to leave the vicinity of the pack for a week, you heard me?! I will not let you visit Roan again! And those memories that you so badly want back are just useless, Aria. You just have to accept the fact that you can never have them back because they’re all gone! All gone just like all the lycans that perished in the hands of the werewolves that you don’t want to kill!”

He slammed the door close right into my face while I slowly fell back onto the floor.

“You are the one that’s making it hard for me to love you, Zuleik,” I whispered into the dawn.
