ALANA

Despite knowing that this would happen sooner or later, I still can’t help but feel nauseous. No matter how many times I tell myself that this is inevitable, still, the fear that the past is going to manifest again this time haunts me to the core.

“Alana, look at me.” William clutched my face to catch my eyes that were starting to run wild. “Nothing will separate us this time, okay? You were able to cheat your way out of death while I was able to collect back my memory. Francine is still there hanging by a thread because she trusts us. Please, believe in us.”

His words always have their comforting effect on me, always have that cool tone effect on me that always gets me nodding at him.

“Can I ask you for another favor, William?”

He put our hands together on his chest. “Consider it done for you, Alana. Tell me what it is.”

“Promise me one thing.” I glanced at Alpha Killian who’s rejoicing in uncovering yet another gem for his collection. “That we will not be like him… That we should not regret the things that we took for granted once everything is impossible to reverse. We will never be like him.”

William never let go of his stare at me as I felt his heart beat faster. “Ever since I was born, I did not have any dream other than to find my other one and love her with all of my heart. Not even me being the alpha prince and the future alpha king can change that.”

He kissed me hard and caressed my hand.

“Let’s go.”

We went back to the palace using the car that had been waiting for us outside the mining site. On the way, I did not feel any ounce of fear because William is here with me.

I have not been alone ever since I met him. I have someone I can always rely on ever since I know him.

“Alpha king, the alpha prince has come with the woman,” the attendant announced our presence before the man that I have always revered.

The alpha king, still looking so strong and majestic as ever, looked at me with a curious expression on his face that soon turned into a scowl when he saw William beside me.

“I want to speak with her alone. Leave, William.”

But his son is just as resolute as the father. “I will not leave, father. You can ask her questions while I am here.”

I leaned in towards him and spoke softly. “It’s okay, William. I can handle this. Please, trust me on this one.”

Looking at my face with a final decision, he can only sigh and give in. I know he just can’t say no to me at all. “Fine but I will only be outside and if I feel a bit doubtful, then I will not think twice about bursting into the door to take her away from your presence.”

I giggled hearing that. “Don’t worry. I will scream for your name if I feel a bit awkward and in danger.”

He grinned back and can’t help but brush off my hair.

“I like that. Scream my name now.”

I bit my lip suppressing a laugh. “Aren’t you being a little too showy and needy for me right now?”

“You don’t like that?”

If not for the alpha king clearing his throat, then we would not be stopping from flirting at each other openly.

William did not bother to erase the flush on his face. “I’ll be outside.”

When he walked out of the door, I was forced to look up at the father of my love who did not seem to like watching us go lovey dovey.

“What is your name, young lady?”

“I am Aria, alpha king,” I said softly.

“Aria,” he muttered, rolling the sounds of the name in his mouth. “Sounds the same with a remarkable lady that I know.”

I clenched my hands. Remarkable. I was like that? How?

“What do you feel for my son? Why are you always with him?”

I bowed before him and spoke respectfully.

“As long as he finds me to be of importance, then I will be by his side, alpha king.”

I heard a growl and then some more heated words.

“Did you know that you are here because my son has mistaken you for someone else?”

I bit my tongue and waited for him to drop the bomb. Will he tell me right now that he knows I am Alana all along?

“I am glad to be that important to the alpha prince, alpha king.”

“What is really your relationship with my son, Aria?”

I raised my face towards him and tried to look him in the eyes while lying with my heart out.

“I only have a casual relationship with the alpha prince, alpha king.”

“Casual?” he repeated the word knowing that he’s never believing my alibi. “Are you telling me that my son divorced his wife just for a casual relationship?”

I went silent knowing the more words I say, the more he will find loopholes in them.

“Aria, my son is not someone you know. He’s cruel, fast to act on his emotions. He is irresponsible. I am even having doubts if I let him be the alpha king with the way he’s acting like a civilized man.”

The door burst open and William came in with a knot on his forehead. He seized my hand and intertwined our fingers.

“I think that’s enough, father. You have already maligned me in front of her. I think I deserve a bit of respect from you, too.”

William was about to pull me away when I stopped him to directly look at the alpha king.

“Alpha king, with all due respect, I think the alpha prince is not cruel, nor rushed to act on his emotions, or irresponsible. He saved someone like me, protected me, and promised to be there for me always. He took responsibility for me even when I was disgusting and abused. He’s all that I want my sons to be, alpha king.”

There was a proud look on William’s face and a looming smile when I turned to look at him.

“Heard that, father? Impressive, right? So, do not ever try to question my devotion to Aria again,” he said as the biggest smile was etched on his face. “And for the record, she is not disgusting or abused. She is a brave girl. A very brave girl.”

The alpha king was frozen seeing his son smile like this for the first time since five years ago.
