We arrived at the white shrine of the moon goddess in the middle of the forest where two sacrifices in the form of a cow and a goat were already there on the foot of the moon goddess’ statue. Georgia and Sophia were already done and given that their animals were half-devoured, it was a no-brainer that their ancestry is spotless and they are very much capable of being William’s wife harmoniously.

“Alana, please present your sacrifice to the moon goddess,” the high priestess of the moon goddess ordered me when I just stood there unmoving, my mouth wide open looking up at the statue in awe.

So, this is what she looked like in her version.

“S-She looked so immaculate. She looked so beautiful,” I whispered in the air while in a trance. “This is my god. This is my goddess. This is our goddess.”

And she is a fair one.

“Anyone who tampers with the result will be punished by the moon goddess so make sure there is no intervention that happens,” the high priestess warned me before leading me to the altar so I could present my gift.

I nodded, “Y-Yes.”

Slowly, with the deer hanging around my shoulders, I walked towards the altar, careful not to gasp. I don’t want to offend the moon goddess.

I want her to see how capable I am to be the alpha prince’s wife. I want her to see my heart wide open for William. I want her to see that I am sincere with my intention the most.

I put the deer on her feet, bowed before her and sighed, overwhelmed by my own feelings of dread, guilt, and fear.

“Say your prayers silently, Alana. Tell the moon goddess about your sincere feelings. She will know if you are lying or not. Tell her the things you wanted because she makes wishes come true to those who yearned for them earnestly.”

I closed my eyes and uttered my prayer.

“Moon goddess, you are my god too, right? You also think that I am precious as your child. I know there is a reason why I was locked in there. You are the one who brought William there so he would find me. Moon goddess, you are what made me and him fated to each other. You arranged for us to be mates and I am praying that he will be my husband and I will be his luna. Please moon goddess, all I am asking is acceptance. I love William so much that I can offer my life to him. Please, moon goddess, accept my gift that I am sincerely offering to you.”

I opened my eyes and bent my knees to kiss its foot. Afterwards, I stood up and stepped up waiting if she would accept my offer.

The soldier earlier told me that if the moon goddess ‘eats’ my offer, then that means that my ancestry is fine and there is nothing wrong with me as a candidate but if it doesn’t, then I would be automatically kicked out of the test. The queen luna puts so much importance in this test because it involves the moon goddess this time around.

With bated breath, I waited for the result in front of the statue with the high priestess and some of the queen luna’s attendants behind me but minutes passed but nothing happened.

The deer is just lying there, dead and cold, without anything happening.

When ten minutes had passed and nothing considerable happened, I began to sweat coldly.

“Please, moon goddess,” I prayed. “Please accept my offer to you.”

But a couple more minutes had passed by and the deer remained there untouched.

In the end, the attendants walked to the high priestess to ask. “High priestess, what is happening? Why is the moon goddess not accepting Alana’s offer? She accepted the offers of the two other girls in just five minutes.”

“Silence,” the high priestess chastised them. “We do not know anything about the possible decision of the moon goddess. As long as it does not take more than an hour to be here, then we will wait here until the end.”

They bowed before her in respect. “Yes, high priestess.”

Tears began to well in my eyes when another ten minutes had passed and my offer was still there with some flies flying around it.

Would I be eliminated from the tests? Would I not be able to marry William? Will my ancestry as the child of the clan of my alpha prince’s enemy be revealed?

An hour had passed but I am still standing rigid in front of the statue, praying and not losing an ounce of hope.

I know she would see my heart’s sincerity. I know she would see that I love William more than my life.

I heard the high priestess sighed from my back as she approached me. “Alana, it’s time to lea-”

But whatever she’s going to say has been cut into short when a big flame engulfed the deer in one go and left nothing of its existence.

“Wow!” they all blurted out as I fell into my knees shaking and crying to my heart’s content.

Thank you, moon goddess. Thank you so much, I said in my mind silently.

WILLIAM

“Alpha prince, please are you okay?” Francine came to my side and assisted me when I tripped on the floor of the shrine inside the palace.

I have been praying for the moon goddess since yesterday to grant my wish.

Even without looking at myself in the mirror, I know I looked so pale. I haven’t eaten anything and the blood from my wrist continued to flow and fill the altar.

“What’s the news? Francine, did the moon goddess accept Alana’s gift to her?” I still asked while on my knees.

“Yes, William. The moon goddess devoured the whole deer.”

I took a long deep sigh of relief upon hearing that. “I’m glad,” I said while catching my breath, my vision continued disintegrating.

I am glad that the moon goddess approves of Alana for me. I’m really glad.
