ALANA

“Father, I am begging you! Please, let me be with Alana. I don’t care if I rejected her and she is no longer my mate!” He fell to his knees in front of his father and begged earnestly. “Please, let us go now. We will leave the palace and the whole state if you want to. We will live as rogue wolves. We will survive! Please, just give us your permission.”

William does not look like the most composed and royal alpha prince that I know of. His whole body is drenched with blood and dirt, his clothes are torn at some parts, and the skin on his arms and legs are exposed with cuts on them.

“This is just a momentary thing, William!” the alpha king exclaimed from his throne while being surrounded by alphas on his back. “Alana is just one of the many women that will come into your life. If you really want to marry a mate, then you can wait for the second mate to be given to you by the moon goddess!”

“I refuse to accept any mate other than, Alana, father!”

“Then you should have not rejected her!” The alpha king’s voice roared across the hall. “You should have fought for your so-called love until both of you died!”

William bitterly laughed and slowly walked into his own father. “But you did not do that to your first mate, father. Why? Because she is the daughter of the alpha king that you want to kill?”

Everyone gasped in the room when he said that. I also felt a cold breeze of fear tingling my skin when I looked into the alpha king and saw him menacingly throw a stare at his own son.

“It’s for the best,” he muttered. “I let Athena go for the sake of all.”

Something stirred inside me when I heard that but my feeling was soon replaced with trepidation when I saw William taking out something from his pocket.

A knife! A silver knife!

“No, William…” I whispered in shock.

Surely he is not planning to do that, right?

But the determination in his eyes told me that he is really doing it.

“And what I’m going to do, father,” he said with finality, “is the thing that I know is best at the moment.”

He ran towards his father with the sharp knife in his hand and moved to stab it on the alpha king’s neck but what happened next rocked me to the core as I watched the happenings in slow motion.

Before William could even pierce the alpha king’s neck, his father already stabbed his chest and punctured his heart.

William vomited blood and fell back into his knees, the knife falling off from his hands.

The whole hall erupted into gasps and cries at the scene they witnessed.

My whole body went cold and trembled as I looked at the alpha prince slowly closing his eyes and falling flat to the floor.

“No! William!” I gasped and ran towards him but Francine was quick to stop me.

“Alana, no! It will be too dangerous for you to be here. Come on. Let’s leave now.”

“But Francine…” My tears just streamed down my face as I tried my very best to stop her from dragging me out. “But Francine…”

I cannot utter any word as I kept on looking at where William is that is not filled with the alphas bantering.

“F-Francine…” My voice shook and I felt like I cannot swallow my saliva anymore.

That scene where William is on the floor dying made my whole body numb and cold.

She carried me back into the dormitory and cupped my face, trying to catch my eyes that can no longer look at her directly.

“Alana, do not leave here, okay? I will go there to check on William. Please, do not do anything drastically. You heard me?”

I heard her but I cannot make sense of what she said. Even when she left me alone in the room, I still cannot make sense of anything.

All that is repeating in my head is William’s bloodied face as his own father stabbed him with his own claws.

“N-No…” I said with my hands shaking. “William will be okay. He will be.”

I covered my own face and tried to calm myself but I just broke out into another miserable sob.

Minutes passed and I began hyperventilating impatiently waiting for Francine to come back for me so when a knock on the door came, I immediately opened it up expecting for her but instead of Francine, it was Georgia’s red face from crying that greeted me.

“Georgia…”

“Are you happy now?!” She slapped me hard on the face while crying hard. “You are definitely the jinx of the alpha prince! Look what you did to William!”

My heart beat like crazy when I heard his name. “What are you talking about? W-What happened to William? Georgia, please tell me William is fine! Please!”

“The alpha prince is dead because of you! William is dead all because of you!” Sophia wailed and pulled at her hair. “If you did not insist on staying with him, if you did not convince him to protect you, then he should have been here alive! The promising life of the alpha prince has been wasted because of you!”

She slapped me again but I just let her. I wanted to feel pain at least to scratch out this numbness I am feeling in my heart.

“You just took away a son from his parents, Alana!”

Despite my knees feeling like jellies, I was able to push her away from me and ran back to the palace to go to William but the guards did not let me.

“Ms. Alana, you are not allowed to enter the premises until the funeral of the alpha prince,” one soldier told me.

“What funeral are you telling me?! William is not dead! He is not dead! I am telling you that there is no possibility that he is dead!”

I looked at the palace and called for his name. “William! William!”
