Alana

A long silent battle ensued between my father and Minerva before the alpha growled at her.

“Shut up, Minerva. Do not embarrass me in front of the ambassadress.”

Taken aback, she can only lean towards Sophia who is as shocked as her mother. Even me is surprised to hear my father say that when I spent all of my life witnessing how he always bent into her words when it comes to hurting me over Sophia.

“Honey…” she can only gasp in shock.

“Daddy! How could you take Alana’s side over me?! Her slave slapped me!” Sophia bellowed but was met by Alpha Killian’s warning stare.

“Do not say anything anymore!” he yelled at her for the first time. “Do not embarrass me too in front of the ambassadress!”

He turned towards the guards who were waiting for his command.

“Open the gates and let the party of the ambassadress in! Prepare the banquet too.”

“Yes, alpha.”

Alpha Killian bowed to me and gestured at the gate. “Ambassadress, please let us in now.”

But to their surprise, I did not move. I looked at Francine and earned a bit of bravery when I saw the support on her face telling me that whatever I do, she will be there by my side.

She and William will be my fallback.

“No, I won’t go,” I answered while looking directly at my father. “Unless I get what I want.”

He eyed me suspiciously. “And what do you want, ambassadress?”

I pointed at Sophia before crossing my arms on my chest. “How do you expect me to come inside when I haven’t received any apology from your daughter, alpha?”

All looked in unison towards Sophia who stood there with mouth wide open. She must have been so shocked to hear that from me.

“M-Me?” she gestured at herself in disbelief. “Are you ordering me to apologize to you?!”

“Why? Does anyone here have the gall to disrespect me more than what you did?” I fired back despite the tremble in my voice.

This is the first time that I mustered such a great deal of courage to do this act because I know the old Alana who was caged and treated like a beast inside that dark cell would never dare to do so. She was so frail and weak and cowardly to say any of this to her perpetrators.

“I would never apologize to you, Alana!” she yelled on my face. “Never in my wildest dreams!”

I sighed and turned back to my father. “Alpha, you heard your daughter. She still won’t accept the fact that she insulted me.” I chuckled. “Is this how you discipline her? No wonder she grew up to be a spoiled rotten woman.”

Francine grinned while Lucas gawked at me, shocked that I could say things like that. Even I was genuinely surprised when I said those. I guess seeing them still living their best lives after what they did to me triggered the hell out of me.

The alpha gritted his teeth before looking at Sophia who immediately shook her head when she read the rage in her father’s eyes.

“No, daddy. I will never say sorry to her. Daddy, you are the alpha of this town. How could you let this bitch bully you into shaming your own daughter?!”

I tapped my feet on the ground and Francine spoke. “Alpha Killian, the ambassadress, is getting impatient. Do you want us to go back to the castle and confess to the alpha king about the injustice that the ambassadress experienced in your hands?”

“No, of course not. That is not our intention. The ambassadress and all of you are welcome here.” He cleared his throat and gently pulled Sophia in front of me. “Apologize to the ambassadress for insulting her, Sophia. Apologize to her now!”

Sophia jolted in her feet while Minerva looked away, unable to see her own daughter saying sorry before the lady that they abused.

“Come on, Sophia. I want to hear your voice,” I urged her, mimicking the voice she used to use on me when she was mocking me back then.

She noticed it as she bowed her head, hands on her side clenched together and tears welled in her eyes.

“I…” she bit her lips as her tears began to cascade down. “I a-am s-so s-sorry, a-ambassadress for insulting you.”

I checked on myself if I wanted to accept her apology and when I felt like I didn't want to, I shrugged my shoulders.

“I heard your words but I won’t accept it so keep on apologizing every time you see me, you understand?"

I walked past her shaking body into the gates where the alpha accompanied me.

“Ambassadress, I wish you a wonderful stay here.”

I did not reply and just walked on ahead keeping my tears from falling.

“You were wonderful back there,” Lucas whispered in my ear.

“Thank you,” I replied, a hollow deep in my heart when I remembered William.

I hope he can see that too so he would be proud of me. He is the one who made me this way. He nurtured me and nourished me to be a confident and brave woman. I owe it all to him.

They took us into the same room where William stayed in the mansion. The moment the door closed, I felt my knees giving in and I collapsed on the floor panting for air. The mask I wore already reached its expiration date and the scared Alana is back.

Francine carried me to the bed understanding the turmoil inside me. “Are you okay?”

“No, I am not. But I will be okay, Francine. I just need to be alone.”

“Alright. I will be outside. Tell me if you need anything.”

I hugged myself and let my tears fall. It’s like torture coming back here. Every place here in the mansion reminds me of the things that I went through, the abuse that I had lived through for years.

“You did great, Alana. You did great,” I said while my tears flowed down like a dam. “There are still more days to come. You can do this, Alana. Be brave. Be courageous just like the alpha prince. Just like William.”
