Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 157
Lisa's POV
I woke with the sun piercing through the curtains, the faint scent of the ocean still lingering in the air. My head felt foggy, like I’d been asleep for a week straight, yet there was a warmth beside me that made me pause. Enzo. Of course. I turned slightly and saw him, still shirtless, lying next to me, watching me with an expression that was both calm and unreadable. My heart skipped a beat, though I didn’t remember how I’d ended up here. My mind was a blank canvas.
“Morning,” he murmured, his voice low, teasing even though it carried a certain seriousness.
I blinked at him, trying to place myself. “Morning…?” I asked, my voice hoarse. “Did I…?”
Enzo’s lips twitched in a smirk. “You’ll remember soon enough. But for now, we have to move. Pack’s waiting, and we’re heading back today.”
I frowned, sitting up and rubbing at my eyes. “Back… to the pack?”
“Yes,” he said simply, swinging his legs off the bed and standing. He walked over to me, giving my cheek a soft brush with his fingers. “Come on. Dress quickly. We’ve got a schedule to keep.”
I hesitated, still disoriented. “I… I don’t remember last night at all,” I admitted, feeling slightly embarrassed. “Did I… do something?”
Enzo chuckled softly, though there was a restrained edge to it. “Nothing you can’t handle. But let’s focus on the now.”
I took a deep breath, standing and shuffling over to the wardrobe. The sunlight caught on the polished floor and the reflection of the waves outside, momentarily distracting me. I dug through the clothes, finally settling on something simple yet comfortable, throwing it on quickly. My hair was a mess, tangled and falling in waves around my shoulders, but I didn’t have the energy—or inclination—to fix it.
Enzo watched me silently, arms crossed, and I felt that familiar heat rising in my chest. He always had that effect on me—calm, commanding, irresistible. Once I was dressed, he handed me a small bag with a knowing smirk. “Don’t forget this. Essentials.”
I grabbed it, still trying to shake off the fog in my mind. “Right. Essentials. Got it.”
We left the room quietly, the beach behind us silent except for the gentle hum of waves. I felt a strange mix of anticipation and nervous energy as we made our way to the boat waiting to take us back to the pack. Every step felt surreal. I was returning to a place that had always felt like a second home, but this time, it felt different. Enzo was with me, and the memory gap from the previous night left me unsteady in a way I couldn’t quite explain.
The ride back was calm. The sun was climbing higher in the sky, turning the sea into a glittering expanse of blue. Enzo sat close, one hand resting lightly near mine, though he didn’t hold it—just enough for me to feel his presence. I kept stealing glances at him, my stomach fluttering with unspoken questions.
Finally, we docked back at the pack. I stepped onto the familiar grounds, taking in the sights and smells that always made me feel… grounded. Calla was waiting near the entrance, a soft smile on her face as she noticed me.
“Lisa! You’re back!” she exclaimed, rushing toward me. I couldn’t help but mirror her excitement, hugging her tightly. “Calla! I missed you,” I said, voice high with relief.
She stepped back slightly, giving me a scrutinizing look. “You look… different,” she said carefully, her eyes narrowing as she took me in. “And Enzo is with you?”
“Yes,” I said, a small smile tugging at my lips. “He’s… he’s amazing, Calla. I mean, seriously—so cool. You wouldn’t believe how… alive he is. It’s… wow.”
Calla chuckled softly, shaking her head. “You really have fallen, haven’t you?” she teased, nudging me lightly.
I laughed, waving her comment off. “Maybe. But it’s not like that. He’s just… incredible. I don’t know how else to put it. And I feel… safe with him. More than I’ve ever felt.”
Other servants and familiar faces began to gather as we walked toward the main hall, curious about my return and the presence of Enzo. I could feel their eyes on me, but all I wanted was to stay close to him. Even without my memory of the night before, I could feel a pull I couldn’t explain—a magnetic force that made every glance and brush of skin feel electric.
Enzo remained by my side, his hand brushing mine occasionally, but still restrained. He let me take the lead, though I felt like I was floating slightly, carried by a combination of his calm authority and my own lingering excitement.
Calla had to intervene a few times, asking about meals, the boat, and whether I was hungry, but I barely registered the questions. My mind was still wrapped around the sensation of being near Enzo, the warmth he exuded, and the teasing grin that made my pulse quicken.
As we walked into the main hall, I couldn’t help but gush to Calla and the others about Enzo. “You have no idea,” I said, practically bouncing on the balls of my feet. “He’s… he’s not like anyone else. He’s just… magnetic. And strong. And clever. And… and the way he looks at you—it’s like he can see right through everything. I mean, wow.”
Calla rolled her eyes with a soft laugh. “You really are smitten, aren’t you?”
“I’m not,” I said, defensively, though my voice carried the exact opposite of conviction. “I just… he’s amazing. You’d understand if you saw him in action.”
Atlas, Kael, and Ash were nearby, each exchanging amused looks, clearly catching on to my gushing. Enzo, of course, ignored them, his eyes dark and steady as he followed my movements. But I could feel him watching me, every gesture, every smile, like he was cataloging my reactions.
We entered the main quarters of the pack, and the air was warm with activity. People greeted us, some bowing respectfully, others whispering in curiosity. I kept looping back to Enzo, unable to resist standing close, brushing my fingers against his arm when I thought no one was looking. The sensation was electric.
Calla leaned close, whispering conspiratorially. “He’s not going anywhere, you know. And you… you’re acting more clingy than usual.”
I laughed softly, cheeks heating. “Maybe I just… enjoy being near him. Okay, fine. I am clingy. But can you blame me?”
She smirked. “No. Not really. But just remember, the pack is watching.”
I waved her off, letting my attention return to Enzo. “Let them watch. I don’t care.”
Enzo finally spoke, his voice quiet but firm. “Lisa, focus. We need to settle in first before you get too carried away.”
I nodded, but only slightly. “I’ll try. But you’re… hard to ignore.”
He raised an eyebrow, smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “I could say the same about you.”
The morning passed in a blur of activity. I helped Calla arrange some of the smaller rooms and assisted the servants with preparing meals. Every now and then, I’d catch Enzo observing me from across the hall, and each time, my stomach fluttered like a hummingbird trapped inside me. I found myself sneaking glances at him, even laughing softly when he gave me that half-smile that made my chest tighten.
“Lisa,” Calla whispered, catching me staring at him once too often, “you really have fallen for him, haven’t you?”
“I…” I paused, realizing she was right. “Maybe I have. But it’s different. I… I don’t know. He’s just… he’s Enzo. And being around him… it feels right. Safe. Exciting. I can’t explain it.”
Calla chuckled softly, patting my shoulder. “I see. Just don’t get too carried away. He’s clever, but you need to keep your wits about you.”
I nodded, though my mind was already wandering back to Enzo. Every time he passed by, every subtle glance or shift in posture made my pulse race. I felt drawn to him in a way I couldn’t explain, and the memory of the previous night—though blank—lingered in a haze of warmth and longing.
By afternoon, the pack was fully back in motion. I found myself animatedly describing Enzo’s actions during the island stay to Calla and a few of the servants, gesturing wildly as I tried to convey his cleverness, his strength, and the quiet magnetism that made him unforgettable.
“You have no idea,” I said, practically bouncing. “He’s… he’s incredible. You’d think he was calm all the time, but he’s… alive, you know? Everything he does has… intention. And he’s so strong—like, physically, but also… like he’s steady. Like he can handle everything. I mean—wow.”
Calla smiled knowingly. “I think you’ve found someone special, Lisa.”
I laughed softly, the sound light and airy. “I… maybe I have. But it’s not just that. He’s… Enzo. And that’s enough.”
Enzo, standing slightly apart, let me gush, his dark eyes never leaving me. But there was a subtle curve of amusement on his lips, a quiet satisfaction in watching me reveal my feelings so openly, so freely.
The day wore on with light tasks around the pack, but I stayed close to Enzo, drawn to him like a magnet. Every touch, every brush of his hand against mine, every look he gave was a spark, a gentle reminder that he was near, that he was mine in ways I couldn’t yet fully understand.
By the time evening came, I was exhausted from the excitement, the gushing, and the constant flutter of my heart whenever he was near. Yet, beneath it all, I felt an unshakable sense of warmth and belonging. Enzo was here, beside me, and for the first time in a long while, I felt truly… alive.
