Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 314
Ryan stood by the hospital window, his phone gripped tightly in his trembling hand.
The sky outside was dull, the clouds gray and heavy, mirroring the weight pressing down on his chest.
His fingers hesitated over the screen before he finally tapped his mother’s number.
The phone rang only twice before Mrs. Winters picked it up.
“Ryan?” Her sharp voice echoed through the speaker.
Ryan swallowed hard, his throat dry. “Mom… something happened.”
Mrs. Winters’ tone shifted immediately. “What is it? What’s wrong? Hope you’re okay?”
“ I’m fine mom. But It’s Kate. She isn’t okay…,” Ryan muttered, his voice low, guilt dripping from every word.
“She… she lost the baby.”
Silence.
For a moment, there was only the faint sound of static. Then came the explosion.
“What?!” Mrs. Winters’ voice roared through the phone, making Ryan wince. “How could this happen? What did you do, Ryan?!”
“What did you do to Kate that led to her losing my grandchild? What the hell did you do?” She demanded, her voice so high that Ryan’s ears hurt from the impact of her voice.
Ryan closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I didn’t do anything, Mom. Trust me, It was me who hurt Kate. I— It was Serena who did it Mom. But I never knew everything would turn out this way.”
“Don’t even start with excuses!” she snapped.
“Serena had the guts to hurt my grandchild, huh? You, Ryan, gave her the right to hurt Kate and my grandchild!”
“ If you hadn’t been frolicking around with that slut Serena, my grandchild would still be alive in Kate’s womb!”
Ryan felt those words like knives, each one cutting deeper into the guilt already suffocating him.
He clenched his jaw, his knuckles turning white around the phone.
“I accept it all Mom. It’s my fault. It is definitely my fault for what had happened,” he whispered, more to himself than to her.
“Yes, it is!” Mrs. Winters snapped.
“You should’ve protected them! But no—you were too busy chasing after Serena to care about your own family!”
“You shoved Kate out in the open for Serena to step all over her with those stinky slutty legs of hers— she used to entice people’s husbands, fiancée and boyfriends!”
“I won’t let this slide, Ryan! She can’t hurt Kate and my grandkid and goes scout free. Never happening!” She fumed over the phone.
The call ended with a sharp click, leaving Ryan staring at the blank screen.
The room felt colder now, the silence deafening.
He tucked his phone into his pocket, his heart heavy, then ran a hand through his hair and exhaled shakily.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Winters was already in motion.
She stormed into her kitchen, grabbing a pot and hastily started preparing soup.
Her anger fueled her movements—chopping vegetables aggressively, her mind spinning with fury.
“That woman… Serena… she ruined everything.”
Once the soup was ready, she poured it into a container, grabbed her car keys, and rushed out the door, determined to see Kate.
At the hospital, Kate was lying in bed, her face pale but her eyes glinting with hidden satisfaction.
She had just finished texting her best friend, Rolly.
Kate: Come to the hospital. Bring some fruits or something. We need to make this look real.
Rolly replied almost instantly.
Rolly: On my way. This is going to be fun.
An hour later, Rolly arrived, carrying a basket of fruits, her face arranged in a mask of concern.
She stepped into Kate’s room, closing the door softly behind her.
“Oh my God, Kate,” Rolly whispered, rushing to her bedside. “Are you okay?”
Kate forced a weak smile, her eyes glistening with fake tears.
“I’m trying to be strong,” she said softly, then waited for a bit before bursting into quiet laughter.
Rolly giggled too, covering her mouth. “You’re evil, you know that?” she whispered.
Kate shrugged.
“Whatever it takes. Ryan is falling for it—hard. You should’ve seen his face when I cried about the baby.”
They both snickered quietly, careful to keep their voices low.
Just then, the door creaked open, and the doctor walked in, clipboard in hand.
He gave Kate a professional smile before glancing at Rolly, then back at Kate.
“I’ve done what you asked,” the doctor said softly, approaching the bed. “Everything’s perfect. No one will suspect a thing.”
Kate’s grin widened. She turned to Rolly. “Give him the check.”
Rolly pulled out an envelope from her purse and handed it to the doctor, who peeked inside briefly before tucking it into his coat pocket.
“Pleasure doing business with you,” he murmured with a grin, shaking Kate’s hand lightly.
But before they could relax, the door suddenly swung open.
Mrs. Winters stormed in, her face flushed from the cold outside, her eyes wild with worry.
The doctor’s demeanor shifted instantly.
He grabbed Kate’s wrist, pretending to check her pulse, his face serious.
“Oh, Mrs. Winters,” he said smoothly, standing up straight.
“Your daughter-in-law is stable. With the way she’s recovering, she can be discharged this evening.”
Mrs. Winters let out a heavy sigh of relief, rushing to Kate’s side and gripping her hand tightly.
“Oh, my dear,” she whispered, brushing Kate’s hair from her forehead. “How are you feeling?”
Kate sniffled, her fake tears flowing effortlessly. “I’m… I’m trying to be strong.”
“I perfectly understand, dear. I brought you some soup,” Mrs. Winters said gently, pulling out the container. “I wasn’t sure what you’d like, but I thought this might help.”
Kate smiled weakly. “Thank you. That’s so thoughtful.”
Mrs. Winters glanced at Rolly. “I didn’t know you had company. I would’ve brought more.”
Rolly smiled politely. “I’m fine, Mrs. Winters. I just wanted to check on Kate.”
They helped Kate sit up slowly, fluffing the pillows behind her.
Mrs. Winters carefully opened the container and began feeding Kate small spoonfuls of the warm soup.
After a few bites, Kate leaned back, sighing dramatically. “It’s really good. Thank you.”
Mrs. Winters smiled warmly, then her expression grew serious.
“Kate, I need you to tell me everything. Ryan told me what happened, but I want to hear it from you. I still can’t believe it properly.”
Kate nodded, her face crumbling into the perfect mask of grief. She took a deep, shaky breath and began her performance.
“I… I went to Serena’s house,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
“She said she wanted to talk, and I thought… I thought maybe she wanted to make peace. But when I got there…” Kate paused, letting out a sob.
Mrs. Winters reached for her hand, squeezing it tightly. “It’s okay, darling. Take your time.”
Kate continued, her voice thick with fake emotion.
“She was so cold. She said… she said I was ruining her life. And when I tried to leave, she grabbed me. She shoved me so hard… I fell, and I knew—” She broke into loud sobs.
“I knew I was losing the baby.”
Mrs. Winters’ eyes filled with tears as she pulled Kate into a comforting embrace.
“Oh, sweetheart. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe that woman could be so heartless.”
Kate buried her face in Mrs. Winters’ shoulder, hiding the smug smirk stretching across her lips.
Rolly, sitting quietly in the corner, caught the smirk and grinned to herself.
When Mrs. Winters finally pulled back, she wiped her own tears away and cupped Kate’s face in her hands.
“I promise you, Kate. I won’t let this slide. She’ll pay for what she’s done.”
Kate sniffled and nodded. “Thank you, Mrs. Winters. I just… I just want justice for our baby.”
Mrs. Winters hugged her tightly again, her heart burning with rage and protectiveness.
As Kate rested her head on Mrs. Winters’ shoulder, she shot Rolly a quick, satisfied glance.
Rolly gave her a small, approving nod.
Everything was going exactly as planned.
