Kate sat at her dresser, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her lips curled into a sly smirk as she ran a hand through her long hair.

The phone on the table beside her buzzed, and she picked it up without hesitation.

“Hello?” she said in a low, expectant voice.

“It’s done,” the man on the other end said. His tone was cold and business-like.

Kate’s smirk deepened. She traced her finger along the edge of the mirror, watching her own reflection with satisfaction.

“Good,” she whispered. “Now let’s see how she’s gonna trust him again with her child.”

The man remained silent, waiting for further instructions.

Kate leaned closer to the mirror, her eyes gleaming with triumph.

“A child is precious to her mother,” she murmured, tilting her head. “No mother would allow a man to make her lose her kid.”

She chuckled softly to herself, biting her lip in excitement.

“Thanks for your help,” she added before ending the call and tossing her phone onto the dresser.

She leaned back in her chair, feeling a wave of satisfaction wash over her. Everything was going exactly the way she wanted.

Meanwhile, Ryan sat alone on a park bench, his elbows resting on his knees, and his hands buried in his hair. His heart felt heavy, and his mind raced with guilt. He had called Serena countless times, but she wasn’t picking up.

“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, staring at his phone screen. He tried again, pressing the call button, but it went straight to voicemail.

He groaned in frustration and rubbed his face with his hands. “Serena, please,” he whispered to himself, his voice filled with regret.

The playground that had been filled with laughter earlier was now empty, the swings swaying lightly in the breeze. He couldn’t believe he had lost Amy—his little girl, his only child. How could he have been so careless?

After a long moment of silence, Ryan took a deep breath and stood up. He knew he couldn’t sit there forever. There was only one place she could have gone—home.

Without wasting another second, he got into his car and drove straight to Serena’s house. As he pulled up outside, he noticed the living room lights were on. His heart pounded in his chest. She was home.

Taking a deep breath, he walked to the door and rang the bell. He waited, nervously shifting from foot to foot.

The door flew open, and Serena stood there, her eyes blazing with anger.

“What are you doing here, Ryan?” she snapped, folding her arms across her chest. She didn’t step aside to let him in.

Ryan swallowed hard, his throat dry. “Serena, I just… I came to see Amy. Is she okay?”

Serena’s eyes narrowed, and she let out a bitter laugh. “You want to see Amy? After what happened today?”

“I know, Serena,” Ryan said quickly, his eyes pleading. “I messed up. I shouldn’t have let her out of my sight. I’m so sorry—”

Serena shook her head sharply. “You think sorry is enough?” she interrupted. “I made a mistake trusting you with my daughter.”

Ryan stepped forward, but Serena immediately blocked his way. “Please, Serena. Just let me see her. Let me make sure she’s okay.”

“No,” she said firmly. “Amy is asleep. And even if she was awake, I wouldn’t let you near her right now.”

“Serena, I love her. I didn’t mean for this to happen,” Ryan tried again, his voice filled with desperation.

But Serena wasn’t having it. Without another word, she slammed the door in his face.

Ryan stood there for a moment, staring blankly at the closed door.

The weight of his mistake crushed him, and he felt a lump rise in his throat.

After a few more moments of standing there in despair, he turned around, walked to his car, and drove home in silence.

When Ryan stepped into his house, he immediately noticed something was off.

The faint smell of perfume filled the air—Kate’s perfume.

Before he could react, Kate sauntered into the living room, wearing a short, tight dress and chewing gum loudly.

Her red lips curled into a mischievous smile.

“Hey, handsome,” she purred, sauntering toward him.

Ryan’s jaw tightened. “Kate, what are you doing here?” he asked, running a tired hand down his face.

Kate didn’t answer. Instead, she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him into a deep kiss. Ryan tried to pull away, but she held him tightly, pressing her body against his.

“Kate, stop,” he muttered against her lips, but she ignored him, deepening the kiss.

He wanted to push her away, but the weight of everything—the guilt, the exhaustion, the loneliness—was too much.

Before he knew it, he was giving in, letting himself drown in the moment.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the curtains, and Ryan stirred awake.

His head was pounding, and his heart sank when he saw Kate lying beside him, peacefully asleep.

Regret hit him like a ton of bricks. What had he done?

Slowly, he slipped out of bed and walked to the kitchen, running a hand through his messy hair.

He poured himself a cup of coffee, his mind still racing with guilt and regret.

He pulled out his phone and dialed Serena’s number again.

“Come on, Serena. Pick up,” he whispered under his breath.

But once again, it went to voicemail.

He sighed and left another message.

“Serena, please call me back. I know I messed up, but I need to talk to you. Please.”

As he stood there, staring at his phone, a soft voice interrupted his thoughts.

“Anything the matter?”

He turned to see Kate standing behind him, wearing nothing but one of his shirts, her arms wrapping around his waist.

Ryan forced a weak smile. “Everything’s fine,” he lied.

Kate rested her chin on his shoulder, her lips brushing against his ear.

“Mmm, last night was amazing,” she murmured, her fingers tracing patterns on his chest. “I’ve missed this. Haven’t you?”

Ryan forced a chuckle, trying to mask his discomfort. “Yeah… sure,” he mumbled, taking a sip of his coffee.

Kate’s eyes sparkled with satisfaction as she leaned closer. “We should do this more often,” she whispered seductively. “Just like old times.”

Ryan swallowed hard, unable to keep the fake smile for much longer.

“I… I’ve got somewhere to be,” he said quickly, stepping away from her hold. “I need to freshen up.”

Kate watched him leave, a sly grin forming on her lips.

She twirled a strand of hair around her finger and whispered to herself, “I’ve got you right where I want you, Ryan.”
