The moment Thomas was left alone in his study, he shoved everything off his desk in rage.

Papers flew into the air, a glass cup shattered against the wooden floor, and the lamp crashed onto the side table.

His breaths were ragged, his fingers clenched into tight fists as he processed what he had just seen on the news.

The video had played at Serena’s company dinner—right in front of business elites, investors, and influential figures. There was no denying it now. It was confirmed.

His nostrils flared as he ran a hand through his hair. He should have known.

“Serena Winthrop,” Thomas said through gritted teeth. “And the child.”

There was a brief hesitation on the other end. “You want both of them taken care of?”

Thomas’ grip on the phone tightened. “No. Bring them to me alive. I’ll decide what happens after.”

“Consider it done.”

Thomas ended the call and exhaled sharply, trying to regain control of his spiraling emotions. But just as he was about to put his phone down, it rang again. His brows furrowed when he saw the caller ID—Kate.

With a sigh, he answered, bringing the phone to his ear. “What?”

“Thomas!” Kate’s voice came through, high-pitched and filled with panic. “Did you see what happened? She—she ruined everything!”

“I know, Kate,” he snapped, rubbing his temple. “I just handled it.”

“Handled it?” Kate’s voice wavered. “What do you mean? What are you going to do?”

Thomas exhaled through his nose. “That’s none of your concern. Just sit tight and don’t do anything stupid.”

“But—”

“I said, stay out of it, Kate!” he barked before ending the call.

Kate threw her phone across the room, her chest heaving. She had worked too hard for this. There was no way she was going to let Serena get away with everything.

The dinner was still ongoing, though the atmosphere remained tense.

Emma, standing beside her, leaned in. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

Serena took a deep breath, nodding. “I’ll be fine. But I need to get Amy home soon.”

Emma bit her lip, concerned. “It’s really late, Serena. Maybe you should wait a bit before leaving.”

“I can’t.” Serena shook her head. “I don’t want Amy staying out too late, and I don’t trust leaving her here any longer.”

Emma hesitated, then sighed. “Alright. But I’ll feel better if you have extra security with you.”

Serena gave her a small smile. “I already had some security arranged earlier tonight. They’ll escort us home.”

Emma relaxed slightly. “Okay. Just… be careful.”

As they stepped outside the venue, the crisp night air hit Serena’s skin. The parking lot was mostly empty, with only a few cars remaining.

Amy, wrapped in a warm coat, rubbed her tired eyes as she held onto her mother’s hand.

The security team was already waiting by the car, scanning the area.

“Ms. Winthrop,” one of them greeted her. “We’ll be following close behind you all the way home.”

Serena nodded. “Thank you.”

Emma gave her a quick hug before stepping back. “I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”

Emma turned and walked towards her own ride, where her boyfriend, Ethan, was waiting for her. She waved one last time before getting into the car and driving off.

Serena helped Amy into the backseat and buckled her in before getting into the driver’s seat. She took a deep breath before starting the engine.

The security car followed closely behind them as they pulled out of the parking lot, heading home.

The streets were nearly empty, only a few cars passing by. The only sounds were the hum of the engine and Amy’s soft breathing as she dozed off in the backseat.

Serena kept her eyes on the road, gripping the steering wheel firmly.

Everything had gone according to plan. The truth was out. Kate and Thomas had been exposed. Now, all she needed to do was keep Amy safe.

“NO!” Serena screamed, kicking and thrashing, but she was quickly overpowered.

The doors slammed shut.

The last thing Serena saw before they sped off was the sight of her security guards lying on the ground, injured or worse.

Amy sobbed, clinging to Serena as the vehicle sped away into the night.

Serena’s mind raced.
