Kate’s hands clenched into fists as she and Rolly pushed their way through the crowded airport.

Her heart was hammering inside her chest, but she forced herself to stay composed. She couldn’t afford to lose her cool now.

“We need to find her before she gets on that plane,” Rolly murmured, her voice tense as she kept glancing around. “Did you get a good look at her picture when I showed you?”

Kate nodded sharply. “Of course, Rolly. I’m not that dumb. I memorized it.”

The image of Lillian Williams was burned into her mind—the woman who had made that call to Ryan, who had almost ruined everything.

Kate didn’t know how or why the nurse had done it, but she was going to get answers today.

And if Lillian dared to say anything to Ryan again…

Kate’s jaw tightened.

She wouldn’t allow it.

The Boston flight hadn’t left yet, which meant Lillian had to be somewhere in this airport.

Kate scanned the terminal, her eyes darting over the crowd, searching, hunting.

“There!” Rolly suddenly hissed, grabbing Kate’s wrist. “Near the boarding gates.”

The woman was standing alone near the large glass windows, a suitcase beside her.

She marched forward, her heels clicking against the polished airport floor. When she reached Lillian, she grabbed her by the arm and yanked her into a quieter corner, away from the crowd.

Lillian gasped. “H-Hey, what are you—”

“Shut up,” Kate snapped, her voice low and dangerous.

She shoved Lillian against the wall, her grip tightening.

“You have three seconds to tell me why you called Ryan,” she hissed. “And don’t even think about lying to me.”

Lillian’s eyes widened in fear. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about—”

Kate’s nails dug into her skin. “Wrong answer.”

Lillian whimpered. “I swear, I didn’t mean any harm. I just—someone paid me to do it!”

Kate stilled.

“Who?” she demanded.

“I don’t know,” Lillian pleaded. “It was an anonymous call. They wired the money straight into my account. I thought… I thought I was just confirming what was already known.”

Kate’s grip loosened slightly as she processed this.

Someone else had orchestrated this. Someone who wanted Ryan to know about the fake miscarriage.

That meant there was another threat out there.

Her stomach twisted, but she kept her face cold.

“You’re lying,” she accused. “You did this on purpose.”

“No!” Lillian shook her head frantically. “I swear, I had no idea it would cause trouble. Please, just let me go. I already quit my job—I’m leaving the city. I won’t say anything else, I promise!”

Kate narrowed her eyes. “You better not.”

She leaned in, her voice dropping into a whisper.

“Because if Ryan ever finds you again,” she murmured, “if you so much as breathe a word to him about anything… I will find you.”

Lillian froze, her breath hitching.

Kate’s lips curled into a smirk. “And trust me, if I find you… you won’t live to see another day.”

Lillian’s entire body trembled. “I—I—”

“Do you understand?” Kate pressed, her fingers digging into Lillian’s arm one last time.

Lillian nodded shakily. “Y-Yes.”

Kate let go of her roughly and stepped back.

“Good.”

Without another word, she spun on her heel and walked away, Rolly following closely behind.

As they exited the airport and got into their car, Kate exhaled sharply, her hands trembling slightly.

“That was intense,” Rolly muttered, fastening her seatbelt. “Do you think she’ll keep her mouth shut?”

Kate smirked. “She doesn’t have a choice.”

Rolly chuckled. “You really are something else, Kate.”

Kate flipped her hair over her shoulder. “I know.”

With that, she started the car and drove off, feeling a sense of satisfaction settle over her.
