Mrs. Winters reached for her hand. “What about him, dear?”

Kate bit her lip, looking between them with watery eyes. “Last night, he came to my apartment. I thought… I thought he was coming to see me, to spend time with me. But instead, he—” She let out a shaky exhale. “He told me he’s not ready for this engagement. That he never wanted it.”

Mrs. Winters gasped. “What?”

Kate sniffled, dabbing at the corner of her eyes. “He said he never planned to marry me, that you forced him into it.” She turned to Mr. Winters, her voice soft and pleading.

Mr. Winters’ jaw tightened. “That ungrateful boy.”

Mr. Winters’ head snapped toward her. “What did that bitch do this time?”

Kate nodded, her expression filled with fake hurt. “After leaving my place last night, he went straight to hers.”

Mrs. Winters’ face twisted in disgust.

Kate sighed, shaking her head. “I found out this morning. He’s still… involved with her. That’s why he’s rejecting the engagement. Serena is manipulating him again.”

Mr. Winters slammed his hand onto the table, his face red with anger. “I knew that woman was full time trouble. I knew she would try to ruin everything.”

Mrs. Winters huffed. “She’s trying to sink her claws into him again.”

Kate nodded, playing the victim perfectly. “I love Ryan, I really do. But I can’t compete with a woman who’s using a child to trap him. I need your help.”

Mr. Winters clenched his jaw, taking a deep breath before speaking. “Don’t worry, Kate. I will handle this. Ryan will not ruin this engagement.”
