Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 263
Serena sat back in her chair, staring at the pile of paperwork in front of her.
She let out a sigh and picked up a pen, determined to finish up her work before heading home.
Just as she started reviewing a contract, a knock came on her office door.
“Come in,” she called out without looking up.
Her assistant, Emma, stepped inside with a bright smile. “Miss Winthrop, there’s someone here to see you.”
Serena raised an eyebrow. “Someone? Who is it?”
Emma grinned. “It’s Nathan.”
Serena’s lips curled into a small smile. “Nathan?”
Emma nodded. “Yes, should I send him in?”
Serena tapped her pen against the desk for a moment before nodding. “Yes, send him in.”
Emma stepped aside, and in walked Nathan, the guy who had once harbored a huge crush on Serena back in their school days.
His tall figure and warm smile filled the office, making Serena chuckle softly.
“Nathan,” Serena said, standing up and extending her hand.
“Serena,” he replied, shaking her hand before letting go. “It’s been a while.”
“Yes, it has.” She gestured for him to take a seat across from her desk. “Please, sit down. What brings you here today?”
Nathan smiled as he settled into the chair. “I was in the neighborhood and thought I’d stop by to see how you’re doing.”
He paused before adding, “And, of course, to ask about Amy. How is she?”
Serena’s face softened at the mention of her daughter.
“She’s fine, thanks for asking. She’s still at school, but I’ll be picking her up later.”
Nathan nodded. “She must be growing so fast.”
Serena chuckled. “You have no idea.”
After a brief silence, Nathan leaned forward slightly. “Actually, Serena, I came by to remind you about that hangout I mentioned before.”
Serena blinked. “Oh.”
Nathan grinned. “You didn’t forget, did you?”
Serena hesitated, biting her lip.
The truth was, she had agreed to it just to spite Ryan, and now she wasn’t sure if she should go through with it.
But Nathan’s hopeful expression made it hard to say no.
“I didn’t forget,” she finally said with a small smile. “I’ve just been busy.”
“Well,” Nathan said, “how about tonight? Just a movie and some fun. No pressure.”
Serena chuckled, glancing at the documents on her desk. “Tonight?”
“Come on,” Nathan coaxed.
“You deserve a break. Let’s go watch a movie, grab some popcorn, and just have fun. You already promised me, remember?”
Serena sighed dramatically. “Alright, fine. I guess I can spare a few hours.”
Nathan grinned. “Great choice. You won’t regret it.”
Serena pressed the intercom button on her desk. “Emma?”
“Yes, Miss Winthrop?”
“Come to my office, please.”
A moment later, Emma walked in, her eyes flickering curiously between Serena and Nathan. “Yes, ma’am?”
“I need you to pick up Amy from school today,” Serena said. “I’ll pick her up from your place later tonight.”
Emma smiled knowingly. “Of course, Miss Winthrop. Enjoy your evening.”
Serena rolled her eyes with a smile as Emma walked out.
Nathan stood up and extended his hand. “Shall we?”
Serena grabbed her purse and nodded. “Let’s go.”
As they stepped out of the building together, several employees walking by stopped to steal glances at them.
Whispered conversations began circulating as people watched them walk side by side.
“Who’s that?” one whispered.
“He looks like her fiancé,” another said with a dreamy sigh.
“They look perfect together,” someone added with a soft “aww.”
Serena ignored the murmurs, but Nathan smirked. “Looks like we’re making quite an impression.”
She chuckled. “Let them talk.”
Nathan opened the passenger door for her, and she slid inside before he rounded the car to the driver’s seat.
At the theater, they grabbed a large bucket of popcorn and some drinks before settling into their seats.
The movie was a lighthearted romantic comedy, and Serena found herself laughing more than she expected.
Halfway through the film, Nathan leaned over and whispered, “I’m glad you came.”
Serena smiled but didn’t respond.
When the movie ended, they walked out of the theater into the cool night air. Nathan stretched his arms and let out a satisfied sigh.
“That was fun.”
Serena nodded. “Yeah, it was.”
Nathan walked her to his car and drove her back to her office, where her car was parked.
When they arrived, he stepped out with her, leaning against her car as she dug through her purse for her keys.
“I had a great time tonight, Serena,” he said softly.
She looked up and smiled. “Me too.”
Nathan hesitated for a moment before leaning in slightly. Serena’s eyes widened as she realized what he was about to do.
“Nathan,” she said quickly, taking a step back and holding up a hand. “Let’s not do that.”
Nathan blinked, his face flushing in embarrassment. “Oh, I—sorry. I thought…”
Serena smiled politely. “You’re a great guy, Nathan, but I’m not looking for anything like that right now.”
Nathan scratched the back of his neck. “Got it. No worries.”
She nodded. “Goodnight, Nathan.”
Without waiting for a reply, she slipped into her car and started the engine.
As she drove away, she glanced at him through the rearview mirror.
He stood there watching her, hands in his pockets, a small smile still on his face.
With a sigh, Serena shook her head and muttered, “Men would always be men.”
Serena drove through the quiet streets, her mind still lingering on the night’s events.
She pulled up in front of Emma’s house and honked lightly.
Within seconds, the front door swung open, and Amy came running out with an excited smile.
“Mommy!” Amy squealed, rushing to the car.
Serena stepped out, bending down to scoop her daughter into a hug. “Hey, sweetheart. Did you have fun with Aunt Emma?”
Amy nodded eagerly. “Yes! We baked cookies, and I watched cartoons. But…” She pouted a little. “You took so long.”
Serena smiled, brushing a strand of hair from Amy’s face. “I’m sorry, baby. Mommy had some things to do.”
Amy tilted her head curiously. “Did you go out with Daddy?”
Serena chuckled as she helped Amy into the car after waving at Emma.
“No, silly. I went out with a friend.”
Amy’s eyes widened. “A friend? Like a girl friend or a boy friend?”
Serena laughed softly as she started the car. “A boy friend, but not like how you think, miss smarty-pants.”
Amy giggled, swinging her little legs. “Was he nice?”
Serena nodded, glancing at her daughter through the rearview mirror. “Yes, he was nice.”
Amy leaned forward in her seat. “Did you eat ice cream? Daddy always buys me ice cream when we go out.”
Serena smiled. “No, we had popcorn instead.”
Amy pouted. “I like popcorn too. Maybe next time I can come?”
Serena glanced at her with a teasing smile. “We’ll see, Amy.”
Amy crossed her arms and grinned. “That means no.”
Serena laughed. “It means maybe.”
There was a moment of silence before Amy asked, “Do you like him?”
Serena glanced at her daughter with a raised brow. “Like who?”
“The boyfriend,” Amy said, emphasizing the words.
Serena chuckled. “Amy, you ask too many questions.”
Amy giggled. “I just wanna know! You never talk about anyone except Daddy.”
Serena sighed, shaking her head with a smile. “I like him as a friend. That’s all.”
Amy scrunched her nose. “But Daddy would be jealous.”
Serena’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, but she quickly forced a smile. “Daddy has nothing to worry about.”
Amy grinned mischievously. “If you say so, Mommy.”
Serena chuckled as they pulled into their driveway.
“Come on, little detective. Let’s get you inside.”
