Kate gripped the steering wheel tightly as she sped down the road, her mind racing with a million thoughts. She had barely recovered from her encounter with Steve, but there was no time to dwell on that now.

She had bigger problems to deal with. Serena was becoming too much of a threat, and if she didn’t do something fast, she could lose everything.

Her jaw clenched as she thought about Ryan, about the way he had dismissed her that morning, brushing off her concerns as if they were nothing.

He was slipping away, and she could feel it. Every time she brought up their future, he found a way to change the subject.

Every time she mentioned Serena, he avoided looking her in the eye. It was obvious. Serena still had a hold on him, and Kate wasn’t about to let that happen.

She needed backup. She needed to make sure Ryan had no choice but to do what was right.

And there was only one place she could go where she knew she would get the support she needed.

The Winters Mansion.

She arrived at the estate minutes later, the grand gates opening for her without hesitation.

The security guards didn’t even question her presence—she had been a familiar face in this household for years. As far as the Winters family was concerned, she was already a part of them.

Kate stepped out of her car, smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress as she made her way to the front door. She needed to make sure she played this right.

The moment the butler let her in, she was relieved to see that both Mr. Thomas Winters and Mrs. Winters were home.

“Kate, dear,” Mrs. Winters greeted, standing from the couch with a warm smile. “What a lovely surprise. Is everything alright?”

Kate barely had to fake the tears that welled up in her eyes. The frustration, the anger, the exhaustion—it was all real. And now, she was going to use it to her advantage.

She let out a shaky breath, her lower lip trembling as she stepped forward. “Mrs. Winters… Mr. Winters… I don’t know what to do anymore,” she whispered, her voice breaking.

Mrs. Winters’ expression immediately shifted to concern. “Oh, sweetheart, what happened?”

Kate sniffled, wiping at her eyes as she took a seat. She let her shoulders shake, her head dropping slightly as if she was barely holding herself together.

“It’s Serena,” she finally said, her voice small. “She’s trying to take Ryan away from me again.”

Mr. Thomas Winters, who had been quietly observing the exchange, let out a sharp breath, his face darkening.

Kate turned to him desperately. “I’ve been with Ryan for years. I’ve loved him, supported him, stood by his side through everything. And now, she’s just waltzing back into his life with a child, trying to claim that it’s his? It’s not fair.”

Mrs. Winters reached out, patting Kate’s hand gently. “Oh, Kate, we know how hard this must be for you. Ryan has always been stubborn, but he loves you.”

Kate let out another small sob. “I don’t feel like he does anymore. I feel like I’m losing him, and it’s all because of her. She’s using that child to manipulate him, to make him feel guilty. And I just… I can’t compete with that.”

Mr. Winters narrowed his eyes. “Serena has always been trouble. I knew it was a mistake to let that marriage happen in the first place.”

Kate sniffled, nodding. “She’s not going to stop. She’s going to keep using that child to pull Ryan further away from me. If we don’t do something now, I’ll lose him forever.”

Mrs. Winters sighed, shaking her head. “Ryan should know better. That woman broke him once, and she’ll do it again.”

Kate squeezed her hands together, her gaze pleading. “Please, I need your help. I can’t fight this battle alone. Ryan listens to you. He respects you. If you tell him that Serena is just trying to trap him, maybe he’ll see reason.”

Mr. Winters leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin in thought. Kate held her breath, watching him carefully.

Then, finally, he spoke.

“Kate, you don’t need to worry. Whatever child Serena claims belongs to Ryan, we have already vowed not to accept her.”

Kate’s heart skipped a beat, a small flicker of victory igniting in her chest.

Mrs. Winters nodded in agreement. “That child is not our grandchild. You are the only one we want for our son. We’ve always seen you as the perfect match for him, and that will never change.”

Kate swallowed hard, letting more tears fall. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “You have no idea how much this means to me.”

Mr. Winters leaned forward, his eyes sharp. “This has gone on long enough. Ryan needs to make a decision, and we’ll make sure he makes the right one.”

Kate’s breath caught. “What do you mean?”

“For the first time, I’m going to step in,” Mr. Winters said firmly. “I will make sure you and Ryan get engaged. No matter what happens.”

Kate’s heart pounded in her chest.

This was it.

This was the push she needed.

If Mr. Winters got involved, Ryan wouldn’t be able to keep pushing her aside. His father wasn’t a man who took no for an answer.

Kate pressed a hand to her chest, shaking her head as more tears fell. “I don’t even know what to say… I just… I love Ryan so much. I want to spend my life with him. I want to build a future with him. I don’t want to lose him.”

Mrs. Winters smiled warmly. “And you won’t, dear. You’ve been patient long enough.”

Kate nodded, inhaling deeply as if she was trying to compose herself. “I just… I don’t want to be just a girlfriend anymore. I’ve waited so many years. I’ve given him everything. I can’t keep doing this, wondering if he’ll ever commit to me. I need this engagement to happen.”

“And it will,” Mr. Winters said without hesitation. “I’ll handle Ryan myself.”

Kate’s lips trembled, but inside, she was beaming with triumph.

She had won this round.

With Mr. and Mrs. Winters on her side, Ryan wouldn’t stand a chance.

Serena might have thought she could waltz back into Ryan’s life and change everything.

But Kate wasn’t about to let that happen.
