Enzo's POV

The battlefield stank of blood and gunpowder, the earth beneath my boots soaked in the carnage we had created. My men were still scouring the grounds, mopping up what little resistance Bryan’s pitiful pack had left. Ash stood a few feet from me, his face hard but his eyes carrying something I rarely saw in him—hesitation. I didn’t like hesitation.

I gripped the hilt of my blade tighter, feeling the metallic stick of dried blood on my gloves. Bryan was kneeling in front of me, one hand gone, his face swollen, his body trembling under the weight of everything he had lost. Yet he still had that damned arrogance in his eyes, the arrogance of a man who thought he could take Lisa from me.

“Enzo…” Ash started, his voice low, almost unsure.

I turned my head slowly, my rage bubbling just beneath the surface. “Where is she?”

Ash shifted uncomfortably, his hand tightening on his gun as if it gave him courage. “We searched every hall, every chamber, every tunnel we know of. Lisa isn’t here.”

The words sliced through me like a blade. My chest tightened, and I felt something primal take hold of me. “What do you mean she isn’t here?” I demanded, my voice thundering across the broken hall.

Ash glanced at Kael and Atlas, who were standing a little behind him, their expressions grim. “Not only is she gone… Irene is gone too. We checked the lower cells—empty. We checked the chambers—empty. There are traces, signs that someone moved her, but no clear trail. It’s like she vanished.”

I froze for a moment, my heartbeat slamming against my ribs. Then I laughed—a hollow, dangerous sound that even made my brothers stiffen. I turned slowly, my gaze landing on Bryan.

“You expect me to believe she vanished? That Irene just waltzed out with her under your watch?!” I roared, slamming my boot into Bryan’s chest, sending him sprawling against the blood-soaked floor.

Bryan coughed violently, blood spilling from his mouth as he struggled to sit up. His remaining hand pressed against the ground, trembling. “I… I didn’t… know,” he croaked, his voice hoarse from the beating I had already given him.

I descended on him like a storm, grabbing him by the throat and hauling him upright. His legs dangled uselessly as I squeezed, watching his eyes bulge, watching the veins in his neck strain under my grip.

“You didn’t know?” I snarled, bringing my face close to his. “You didn’t know your precious sister, the snake you let live under your roof, would betray you? You didn’t know she would take Lisa while you hid behind excuses and arrogance?!”

Bryan choked, his hands clawing at my wrist, his face turning red, but I didn’t loosen my grip. My fury was a living thing, burning hotter with every second.

“Enzo!” Kael’s voice cut through the haze of my rage, firm but urgent. “If you kill him now, we may lose our only chance to find out where Irene took her.”

I threw Bryan down like a rag doll, his body hitting the floor with a sickening thud. He gasped for air, coughing violently, but I wasn’t done. I crouched over him, grabbing his hair and forcing his head back so he was staring into my eyes.

“Listen to me,” I growled, my voice low but lethal. “If Lisa is not brought back to me, if even a strand of her hair is harmed, I will carve you apart slowly. Do you hear me, Bryan? I will peel you piece by piece until there is nothing left but scraps of flesh for the crows.”

He tried to form words, but they were broken, wheezing, pathetic.

“You think you’ve suffered because I cut off your hand?” I hissed, my grip on his hair tightening until he winced. “That was mercy. What I’ll do to you if Lisa doesn’t come back will make this look like kindness.”

Ash stepped closer, lowering his voice as he addressed me. “We’ve set scouts to follow Irene’s possible trails. But she’s clever, Enzo. She knows this land better than most. If she’s planned this… it won’t be easy.”

I released Bryan’s head, letting it slam back against the ground. I stood, breathing hard, my chest heaving with fury. “I don’t care how clever she thinks she is,” I snapped. “She cannot hide from me. She cannot hide Lisa from me. I will burn down every inch of this cursed pack if I have to.”

Bryan groaned on the ground, coughing and spitting blood. I looked down at him with pure disgust. This man thought he could chain Lisa, accuse her, torture her, and still breathe in my presence. The fact that he still lived was an insult to me.

I kicked him again, this time in the ribs, and the crack of bone was sharp, satisfying. His scream filled the chamber, bouncing off the stone walls, a pitiful sound that only fueled my rage.

“Tell me where she is!” I demanded, grabbing him by the collar and shaking him violently. “Tell me what Irene planned!”

“I don’t… I don’t know!” Bryan cried out, his voice breaking under the pain. “I swear… Enzo, I swear I don’t know!”

I slammed my fist into his jaw, feeling the bone shift beneath my knuckles. His head snapped back, and for a moment, I thought he’d lost consciousness. But I wasn’t done. Not yet.

Kael stepped forward, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Brother,” he said carefully, “we need him alive, at least until we know what Irene is planning.”

I shrugged his hand off violently, glaring at him. “Alive doesn’t mean untouched. Alive doesn’t mean unbroken.”

Atlas, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. His voice was steady, calm in a way that only made me angrier. “Enzo, we’ll find her. We’ll track Irene down. But right now, your rage isn’t helping. You’re venting it on Bryan, but he may truly not know.”

I snarled, the words grating against me. They didn’t understand. None of them understood the fire burning in my chest, the gnawing fear clawing at me that Lisa was slipping further from my reach. Every second she was gone, I could feel it, like a void inside me widening.

I turned back to Bryan, crouching low again, so close he could see the bloodlust in my eyes. “If you are lying to me,” I whispered, my voice venomous, “if you are protecting her… there is no hell deep enough to hide you from what I will do.”

His swollen lips trembled, his eyes glossy with tears of pain. “Irene… she… she doesn’t tell me everything,” he stammered. “She’s always had her own secrets. I swear, Enzo… I didn’t know she’d take Lisa. Please…”

I slammed his head against the floor, cutting off his words. “Pathetic.”

Ash moved forward again, his tone cautious. “Enzo, the men are waiting for your orders. Do we pursue immediately? Or regroup and fortify?”

I stood, dragging a hand down my face, trying to ground myself, though my rage still clawed at me. “Spread out. Search every inch of this land. Find her trail. I don’t care what it takes—burn the forests, scour the tunnels, dig through the rubble. I want Lisa found.”

Ash nodded sharply and turned to leave, barking orders to the men outside. The sound of boots echoed as squads mobilized, spreading out like a wave of vengeance across the battlefield.

I looked down at Bryan one last time. He was a ruin of a man now, broken, bleeding, trembling. Yet still alive. For now.

I knelt beside him, leaning close enough that he could feel the heat of my breath. “Pray to whatever gods you believe in, Bryan,” I whispered coldly. “Pray that we find Lisa. Because if we don’t… I will end you so slowly, so painfully, that your screams will haunt these walls for centuries.”

His eyes widened, his chest heaving with shallow breaths, and I stood, turning my back on him. My fists clenched at my sides, my jaw tight. The storm in me was far from over, and until Lisa was back where she belonged, it would never end.
