Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 261
Kate paced around her living room anxiously, her phone clutched tightly in her hand.
Her heart pounded in her chest, and her palms were sweaty. She had to find a way out of this mess, and fast.
When the doorbell rang, she rushed to open it, revealing Rolly, her best friend.
Rolly stepped inside, closing the door behind her.
“Kate, what’s going on? You sounded really stressed on the phone.” She tossed her handbag onto the couch and crossed her arms.
“Is it about Ryan again?” She asked, staring worriedly at her.
Kate sighed dramatically, flopping onto the couch.
“Yes, of course, it’s about Ryan! He called me this morning and said he’s taking me to the hospital for a pregnancy check-up.”
Rolly’s eyes widened. “What? I thought you said he wouldn’t doubt you!”
Kate groaned, running her hands through her hair.
“That’s what I thought too! But now he’s acting all suspicious. If I go to the hospital, Rolly, the truth will come out!” She looked up at her friend desperately.
“I can’t let that happen. We’ve worked too hard for this!”
Rolly tapped her chin, thinking for a moment.
“Okay, calm down. We can figure this out. Let’s think… What if… you tell him you’re too sick to go?”
Kate shook her head quickly. “He won’t believe me. He sounded so serious. He even told me not to keep him waiting.”
Rolly snapped her fingers suddenly. “Wait! What if we bring his mother into this?”
Kate blinked. “Mrs. Winters?”
“Yes! You know how much she adores you. She’s been wanting a grandchild forever. If she thinks you’re pregnant, she’ll never let Ryan take you to that hospital.”
Kate’s eyes lit up with hope.
“You’re right! That woman worships the ground I walk on. If I can get her on my side, Ryan won’t dare question me!” She jumped up and grabbed her phone. “I’ll call her right now!”
Rolly nodded, smirking. “Do it.”
Kate quickly dialed Mrs. Winters’ number, and after a few rings, the older woman answered in a warm, welcoming voice.
“Kate, darling! What a pleasant surprise!”
Kate put on her sweetest voice.
“Mrs. Winters, I hope I’m not disturbing you, but there’s something really important I need to talk to you about. It’s… about Ryan and me.”
Mrs. Winters gasped. “Oh dear, is everything alright?”
Kate sniffled, pretending to hold back tears. “I… I’d rather talk about it in person, if that’s okay with you.”
“Oh, of course, sweetheart. Come over right away!” Mrs. Winters said quickly. “I’ll be waiting for you.”
“Thank you so much, Mrs. Winters,” Kate said, smiling at Rolly as she hung up.
Rolly grinned. “That was perfect! Now go over there and do what you do best—act.”
Kate hurried to get dressed, slipping into a modest floral dress that she knew Mrs. Winters would love.
“I’ll call you when it’s done,” she told Rolly before heading out the door.
At the Winters mansion, Mrs. Winters greeted Kate with a warm hug, pulling her inside.
“Oh, sweetheart, you look so lovely. Come, sit down. Now tell me, what’s bothering you?”
Kate sighed and sat down, placing a hand on her belly dramatically. “Mrs. Winters… I’m pregnant with Ryan’s child.”
Mrs. Winters’ eyes widened with joy.
“Oh my goodness, Kate! This is wonderful news!” She clasped Kate’s hands. “You have made me the happiest mother in the world!”
Kate bit her lip, letting tears form in her eyes. “But… Ryan doesn’t believe me. He wants to take me to the hospital for a test.”
Mrs. Winters’ joyful expression turned into a frown.
“What? How dare he! After all these years of being together?”
Kate nodded, sniffling.
“I don’t know why he doubts me. I love him so much. I’ve always wanted to give him a family, and now that it’s finally happening, he…” She trailed off, pretending to be overwhelmed.
Mrs. Winters stood up, furious. “I will not allow my son to treat you this way.
You are carrying the future heir of the Winters family!”
Kate’s eyes sparkled with victory. “You really think so?”
Mrs. Winters patted her hand reassuringly. “Of course, dear. I know so! Leave everything to me.” She turned to the maid standing nearby. “Fetch my phone from upstairs, now!”
Once the maid handed over the phone, Mrs. Winters dialed Ryan’s number.
Ryan was pacing in his office when his phone buzzed. Seeing his mother’s name, he sighed and answered.
“Mom, I’m kind of busy right now—”
“Ryan Winters!” his mother’s voice boomed through the phone.
“You drop whatever you’re doing and come home this instant! We need to talk!”
Ryan frowned, running a hand through his hair. “Mom, I have plans. Can’t it wait?”
“Absolutely not!” Mrs. Winters snapped. “Whatever we want to discuss is more important than that work of yours, Ryan. You better not keep me waiting!”
Ryan exhaled sharply. He knew there was no arguing with her. “Fine. I’ll be there soon.”
Kate grinned as Mrs. Winters hung up.
“Thank you so much, Mrs. Winters. You don’t know how much this means to me.”
“Nonsense, dear,” Mrs. Winters said warmly. “Now let’s wait for Ryan.”
When Ryan arrived at the mansion and stepped into the living room, he was greeted by a sight that made his stomach turn—Kate sitting comfortably, his mother beaming at her, and his father sitting nearby with an unreadable expression.
Ryan’s jaw tightened.
He knew something was up. “Mom, what’s going on here?”
Mrs. Winters gestured for him to sit. “Ryan, Kate has told me everything. I cannot believe you would doubt her after all these years!”
Ryan shot a glance at Kate, who looked away innocently.
“Mom, this isn’t about doubt. It’s about confirming the truth.”
His father finally spoke.
“Ryan, your mother and I have decided. There will be no test. You and Kate have been together long enough. You need to take responsibility.”
Ryan clenched his fists. “Dad, I just want to be sure. Is that too much to ask?”
Mrs. Winters shook her head.
“No, Ryan. There will be no hospital trips, no tests. We’re talking about my grandchild!”
Kate sniffled, pretending to wipe away tears.
“I can’t believe you’d think I’d lie to you, Ryan.”
Ryan’s patience snapped. “Are you serious right now? Mom, Dad, you can’t just make this decision for me!”
Mrs. Winters crossed her arms.
“We already have. Now, behave like the man I raised you to be.”
Ryan felt trapped. With both his parents against him, he had no choice but to storm out in frustration.
As he slammed the door behind him, Kate smiled smugly.
She had won this round.
