Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 292

The drive home was quiet, but Serena felt a sense of relief being away from the hospital and the media’s prying eyes.

The moment they pulled into the driveway, she spotted a familiar figure standing by the front door.

Nathan.

He was pacing, his hands in his pockets, his brows furrowed in concern.

The moment Serena stepped out of the car, he rushed over, his eyes scanning her from head to toe, as if making sure she was truly okay.

“Serena!” he called, stopping right in front of her.

She blinked in surprise. “Nathan? What are you doing here?”

Nathan let out a breath, shaking his head. “I saw the news. I—” He hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I was out of town for a business meeting, and that’s why I couldn’t be at the hospital last night. But the moment I heard you were discharged, I came straight here.”

Serena smiled gently, touched by his concern.

“You didn’t have to rush here, Nathan. I’m fine, really.”

He didn’t seem convinced. “Are you sure?” His eyes searched hers, as if trying to detect any hidden pain.

Serena nodded firmly. “Positive. You’re worrying too much.”

Nathan sighed in relief, his shoulders finally relaxing. “Good. You scared me, Serena.”

At that moment, Mrs. Winthrop, who had been watching the exchange from the side, stepped forward.

She had just gotten out of the car but had been silent, observing Nathan closely.

Nathan finally noticed her and quickly greeted her with a polite nod.

“Good morning, ma’am.”

Serena smiled and gestured toward her mother. “Mom, this is Nathan. We went to school together, and we’re good friends.”

Mrs. Winthrop’s eyes lit up as she took in Nathan’s respectful stance, his polished appearance, and the genuine concern on his face. Something about him just felt right.

Her lips curled into a warm smile. “Ah, so you’re Nathan?”

Nathan nodded politely. “Yes, ma’am. It’s nice to meet you.”

Mrs. Winthrop tilted her head slightly, examining him as if trying to read his soul.

Then, her smile widened. “Well, any friend of Serena’s is welcome here.”

Nathan smiled in return, looking pleased. “Thank you, ma’am.”

“Let’s go inside,” Serena said, leading the way.

Inside the house, they all settled into the living room, and before long, the atmosphere became lighthearted.

Nathan and Mrs. Winthrop hit it off instantly, discussing various things while Serena listened in amusement.

Nathan, ever the charming talker, kept Mrs. Winthrop engaged with stories about his business trips, his childhood memories with Serena, and the mischief they used to get into back in school.

Mrs. Winthrop laughed heartily, clearly enjoying his company. “You must have had a handful with my daughter back then.”

Nathan grinned. “Oh, she was the one who always got me into trouble.”

Serena gasped dramatically. “That is not true!”

Nathan smirked playfully. “Really? Who was the one who convinced me to sneak into the teacher’s office and change our grades?”

Mrs. Winthrop raised a brow. “Serena!”

Serena covered her face in embarrassment. “That was just once!”

Nathan chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

Mrs. Winthrop shook her head but smiled. “Well, at least I can tell you’re a good person, Nathan.”

After some more lighthearted conversation, Nathan checked the time and sighed.

“I should get going. But I’ll come by tomorrow to check on you, Serena.”

Serena smiled softly. “Okay. Thanks for stopping by, Nathan.”

Nathan nodded, then turned to Mrs. Winthrop. “It was really nice meeting you, ma’am.”

Mrs. Winthrop smiled warmly. “You too, dear. Take care.”

Once Nathan left, Mrs. Winthrop turned sharply to Serena, a knowing look in her eyes.

“Alright, young lady,” she said, folding her arms. “Tell me. What’s really going on between you and Nathan?”

Serena groaned. “Mom, not this again.”

Mrs. Winthrop arched her brow.

“He’s clearly a good man, and I could see it in his eyes—he adores you, Serena.”

Serena chuckled, shaking her head. “Nathan is just my friend.”

Mrs. Winthrop huffed.

“Nonsense! A man doesn’t look at a woman like that unless he has feelings for her.”

Serena rolled her eyes, laughing.

“Mom, you just met him for the first time today, and you’re already acting like a matchmaker.”

Mrs. Winthrop shrugged, a sly smile on her lips. “I just call it as I see it. And what I see is a young man in love with my daughter.”

Serena shook her head, amused. “You’re unbelievable.”

Meanwhile, across town…

Ethan stood in front of his full-length mirror, adjusting his collar, making sure everything was perfect.

He ran a comb through his dark hair, tilting his head to check if the style was just right.

Then, he grinned at his reflection. “Damn, Ethan, you look good,” he murmured to himself.

He grabbed his bottle of cologne, sprayed a little on his neck, then clapped his hands together.

“Alright. Let’s do this.”

His housekeeper, an elderly woman, watched him as he walked past, grinning like an idiot.

“Off somewhere important, young man?” she asked, raising a brow.

Ethan barely acknowledged her, too caught up in his excitement. He just flashed a grin and walked straight out the door.

The housekeeper shook her head, smiling to herself. “That boy is up to something.”

Ethan hopped into his car, gripping the steering wheel excitedly. His heart was racing, his mind filled with one thought—Emma.

Ever since he saw her, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.

He had barely slept, tossing and turning all night, replaying the moment they locked eyes at the hospital.

He had never felt like this before.

His last relationship had ended badly, and after that, he had sworn off love.

But with Emma, it was different. It was instant. Like love at first sight.

And today, he was going to see her again.

He arrived at Rocky’s Design, stepping out of his car with confidence.

He adjusted his suit, ran a hand through his hair one last time, and then walked into the building.

The moment he entered, all eyes turned to him.

The receptionist, a young woman with bright red lipstick, immediately sat up straighter, flipping her hair as she batted her lashes at him.

Ethan ignored her attempts to get his attention and walked straight to the front desk.

“Good morning, sir,” the receptionist said, her voice sickly sweet as she leaned forward slightly.

Ethan, without even glancing at her, said, “I’m here to see Emma, Serena Winthrop’s personal assistant.”

The receptionist’s smile dropped slightly. She had been expecting flirtation, but instead, he was all business.

Still, she forced a sweet smile, though there was a hint of annoyance. “Emma’s office is on the top floor.”

Ethan finally turned to her, flashing one of his signature smirks. “Thanks.”

The receptionist’s breath hitched, her knees suddenly weak.

As Ethan walked away, she clutched her chest, whispering breathlessly, “God help me.”

Ethan didn’t care.

He had only one goal in mind.

Emma.
