Rejected By My Mate; Claimed By Lycan Quadruplets Chapter 230
Kael's POV
The air was thick with the tang of blood and magic. I could feel the pull in my chest—Lisa’s energy was waning, her heartbeat fluttering like a candle threatened by the wind. Every step I took forward was powered by that need to reach her before Malrik drained her completely. I wasn’t just leading warriors tonight. I was leading brothers, allies, wolves who believed in the bond we shared with her, who trusted me enough to follow my roar into hell itself.
“Hold the line tighter,” I barked, my voice echoing through the cold mist curling around us. “Malrik’s traps aren’t meant to scare you—they’re meant to rip your soul apart before your body hits the ground. Watch every shadow.”
Their ears twitched, eyes glowing in the dark. The allied wolves around me weren’t mere soldiers; they were packs who had once distrusted one another, but tonight we had united under one banner—Lisa. My chest swelled with pride at their loyalty, but the weight of responsibility pressed heavier. If I faltered, if I made one wrong call, Lisa would pay the price.
I pushed my hand into the dirt, drawing a line of raw energy across it. The soil hissed, glowing with faint light as I connected my lifeforce with hers. My veins felt like fire, the bond between us stretching taut like a burning rope.
“Lisa,” I whispered under my breath, eyes closing for just a moment. “Hold on. I’m here.”
The mate bond pulsed in answer, faint but there. It wasn’t as strong as Ash’s, I knew. His connection to her was primal, soul to soul. But mine—it was raw force. I was the wall, the shield, the storm that would rise and tear Malrik’s empire apart.
Around me, the wolves crouched low, waiting for my signal. I rose to my feet, exhaling as I let my wolf creep to the surface. Bones shifted, muscles tore and reformed, my chest expanding as fur bristled across my skin. The Lycan within me roared, breaking through the fragile shell of restraint. Power surged through my limbs until the ground itself trembled beneath my paws.
Gasps erupted from behind me, but I didn’t need their awe. I needed their strength.
“Follow me if you dare!” I howled, voice shaking the forest. “For Lisa!”
A chorus of howls answered, vibrating through the night like a war song. The mist stirred, then thickened suddenly—Malrik’s doing. Dark energy wrapped around the trees, shadows reaching with skeletal fingers. One wolf stumbled forward and the mist tightened like a noose around his throat. He clawed at the air, gasping.
“Cut it!” I snarled, slamming my paw into the ground. A wave of my energy burst outward, snapping the trap apart. The wolf coughed violently, collapsing into the arms of his packmate. His wide, terrified eyes met mine.
“Stay alert,” I growled. “That was only the beginning.”
We pressed forward. Every step felt like sinking deeper into Malrik’s web. Spears of black light shot out from the soil, forcing us to leap aside. Explosions of flame erupted from invisible circles, and ghostly wails filled the air, gnawing at the edges of our sanity. Wolves whimpered, claws digging into the earth as if trying to anchor themselves.
I could feel the pull of Lisa’s essence again. Weak. Too weak. My jaw clenched as fury coiled inside me.
I forced my power outward, sending tendrils of my essence linking not only to Lisa but to every wolf around me. It hurt—like I was slicing pieces of myself away—but I didn’t care. I couldn’t let them crumble under Malrik’s madness.
“Take my strength!” I shouted. “Breathe it! Use it!”
One by one, their heads lifted. Their eyes burned brighter, claws sharper, movements steadier. I staggered under the drain but gritted my teeth. I was Kael. I was their alpha tonight, whether they wore my mark or not.
The traps grew nastier. A barrier of shadow loomed ahead, tall as the sky and thick as stone. One wolf threw himself at it, and his body disintegrated into ash before our horrified eyes. His packmates howled in anguish, charging recklessly until I snapped at them.
“STOP!” My roar shook the very barrier itself. They froze, panting, trembling with rage and grief. I swallowed the lump in my throat and stepped closer. My paw touched the surface—it burned like acid, sizzling against my fur.
Malrik’s voice slithered through the barrier. “Do you think you can reach her, Kael? You will all die screaming before you touch my sanctuary.”
“Not tonight,” I snarled, pushing harder. My veins bulged, black smoke hissing into my skin. Pain ripped through me, but I welcomed it.
“Kael, don’t!” one of the wolves pleaded.
But I ignored him. I let my wolf surge higher, bigger, fiercer. My Lycan form burst in full—towering, monstrous, raw power given flesh. My claws sank into the barrier and tore. It resisted, screaming like a dying beast, but I didn’t stop. Blood poured from my palms, dripping onto the ground, yet I ripped harder until cracks split through it like lightning bolts.
The wolves behind me joined in, slamming claws and teeth against it. Together, we shattered the wall.
The blast threw us backward. Dust and shadows rained from the sky, hissing as they hit the ground. I staggered upright, chest heaving. The wolves rose one by one, battered but alive. Ahead of us lay a long tunnel of darkness, lined with twisting roots and glowing red eyes peering from the shadows.
“Kill on sight,” I muttered. Malrik’s order echoed in my head. He wanted us slaughtered before we reached him.
Not happening.
We charged. The tunnel erupted with monstrous creatures, born of Malrik’s corruption. Wolves with two heads, bodies stitched together with bone and sinew. Shadows that lunged with teeth like knives. They came in waves, shrieking, clawing, tearing.
I became a storm. My claws split skulls, my teeth tore through throats. My roar thundered louder than their shrieks. Every kill was for Lisa, every step forward another promise carved into the earth.
“Kael!” someone shouted. I whipped around just in time to see one of the creatures driving its claws into a wolf’s chest. Fury blinded me. I leapt, ripping the monster in half with one swipe. Blood sprayed, warm and sticky across my fur. The wounded wolf gasped but nodded in gratitude.
“Keep moving!” I ordered. “Don’t stop! Every second we waste, Lisa fades!”
The bond with her pulsed again, weaker now. I pushed mine harder, sending my strength down the thread. I felt her stir faintly, whispering in my mind.
Kael…
“Lisa!” I roared, voice cracking. “I’m coming, don’t you dare give up!”
The wolves surged forward with renewed fury. Trap after trap, beast after beast, we broke through them all. My body screamed in agony, but I didn’t falter. I couldn’t. Not while she still breathed.
At last, a faint glow appeared ahead—the ritual chamber. The scent of her blood hit me like a blade to the gut. My heart slammed in my chest as rage swallowed me whole.
“Malrik!” I bellowed, my voice shaking the walls. “Your end is here!”
And with every ounce of power left in me, I led my wolves straight into the fire.
