The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 111: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND ELEVEN
I ran into Axel who was heading in my direction, a look of panic in his eyes. I guess this would fuel Kane's desire to lock me up in a castle and throw away the key. I quickly hopped on his back and he ran back to the pack house.
The school was located too close to the pack farms and I guessed that was why it was the perfect cover for things like this.
I got off my mate's back and I followed him to Kane’s office with the bird clutched in my hand.
We walked in and I could see through his eyes the battle between him and his wolf.
“Baby, please don't do that to us again. We can't take it if anything happens to you,” he said as he hugged me tightly.
The anger I felt earlier was still lurked within me but I relaxed in his hold, the mate bond not giving me a moment's reprieve.
“Princess, why do you have a bird with you?” Axel asked me and I drew away from Kane and dropped the bird on his table.
“I didn't know that my animal hearing abilities had returned but as I was running on the tracks, I heard her crying so I got there and he was tied up pretty badly,” I explained.
“I fear we might be under attack tonight,” Kane expressed sadly.
“Try to get some information from the bird, princess. Maybe we'll be able to figure out this problem once and for all,” Axel asked me and I nodded.
The bird had been looking at us as we spoke and didn't understand anything from the way her eyes kept flickering back and forth but as I began talking to her directly, she understood what I was saying. It was weird I guess but a very useful skill.
“What exactly happened out there? Who did this?” I asked her and she heaved before giving me a response.
“One is a vampire, another is a warlock and the third is a demon. They have been using my people for these sacrifices and I was sent to the Royal tree to ask our king for solutions when I got caught. They have an open portal in every pack and that's how they're able to get in and out without getting killed,” she explained and I relayed the information back to my mates who couldn't hide their shock.
“But that would mean each pack has a traitor, how can this be? What on earth do they want?” Kane asked but I doubt the bird had all the answers.
“He wants to know everything you know about this whole situation. They're not just killing you birds but there's a wide massacre across packs, clans and covens. They're taking no prisoners and we need to stop them,” I explained to her
“They're taking prisoners actually but only when they're dead. They're raising an immortal and completely obedient army that they'll control the rest of the world with. My cousin actually escaped and gave us the information he heard from them. When they're done with the supernatural world, they're going into the human world. It's a big plan and they already have a large army,”
“Somehow, I think whoever they are, they live among us. Disguising and getting information,” Axel said after I told them what the bird had said.
“But where's Ares? All of this is making me scared,” I asked him.
“He's helping a pack out. They're being attacked. Every Alpha moves around with a small army so they can help out if they come across anything. He'll be back in the morning,” he reassured me.
“But the question still remains what we should do. Are they still going to attack tonight?” Kane asked me.
“I doubt that except they get their hands on another of my cousins tonight,”
“What if I inform Lyra of what is happening so they can be alert. If there's anything, we'll be able to act on time before anyone gets hurt,” I suggested.
“That's a great idea, baby. We need to utilize everything in our hands. I'm going to order a full pack lockdown tomorrow so we can fish out this traitor and close the portal. For now, give your falcon to Cora, she has a chicken farm and will be able to take care of it,” Kane said to me.
“Her,” I corrected him.
“What?”
“The bird is female,”
“Oh. I'm sorry,” he apologized and held my hand for a second but he could sense I was still upset and let me go reluctantly.
Axel was still pacing around the room, his head looking rough.
“What is it?” I asked him.
“We need to join the packs together. This going and coming thing isn't working. What if something happens to… never mind. Let's go give the bird to Cora and then we'll go to bed, okay?” He said and waved his arm around my waist and led me out of the office.
I believe he was just about to say he was scared for Ares and that put my worrying on a higher level. I'd been trying to tone it down, knowing how strong he is but now that Axel shared the same emotion, I couldn't hold back.
“Please tell me he'll be fine,” I asked, my voice shaking.
“Yes of course Princess. My brother might look soft but he's a beast on a battlefield. He'll be back, I'm sure of that but we won't be able to keep doing this back and forth for the long run, that's all,” he replied as he opened the door for me.
Cora lived with the rest of the married folks in smaller houses scattered around the pack and it gave the pack a cozy feeling.
“But who will have to move?” I wondered out loud.
Wolves were proud creatures and everything was a power play to them. Considering the recently ended war, I doubt it'll be easy merging them together.
“That's the reason why we haven't completed the process. NightShade is deep in Supernatural territory but is prone to attacks from these bastards. I have no idea why and DarkMoon is too close to the human world. Anything can happen so it's not the best. Our pack members are used to living their lives carefree without the fear of a human walking in by mistake. Bringing them here, they'll have to adapt to the way of DarkMoon, wearing clothes all the time and only shifting in the night. I don't want that for them,” he explained and I could tell this was a lot on him.
“Don't worry baby. You'll figure it out. I wish there was a common ground for everyone. Somewhere new where everyone would start afresh, no bad memories and all,” I said with nostalgia
“You might be onto something there. Let's talk about it later, okay?” He told me as he kissed my head for the third time since our walk. I guess he knows how much I loved it and did it constantly.
We finally got to Cora's house and before we could knock, the door opened and an overly excited Damien jumped into my arms.
“Hey kiddo! Why aren't you asleep?” I asked, laughing at his excitement.
“Mommy was reading me a bedtime story before I heard your voice,” he explained, his babyish voice melting my heart.
“Aww, you love aunty Aurora, don't you?” I asked him, blowing him a raspberry.
“He sure does. What brings you by? I thought the date night was going to head in a different direction,” she asked me with a knowing smile.
“Oh, something happened but that'll be later. Kane said you reared chickens?”
“Yea, I and a few other women have a barn for them, what's going on?”
“Don't worry about that. Just help me take Sophia here. I'll tell you everything tomorrow, I promise. I can feel a massive headache coming and I need to sleep,”
“Sowie aunty Aurora,” Damien said to me. Such a sweet boy.
“Thank you my darling. Now go to sleep, it's late,” I said and shooed him inside the house as we laughed at his antics.
Axel handed over the bird to her and I rubbed her feathers.
“You'll be safe with her, I promise,” I said to the bird who I literally just named on a whim and she nodded, falling back asleep.
“You're so full of surprises, Luna,” Cora said as she took the bird from me.
“Let's go,” I told Axel and he held my waist again, leading us back to the penthouse.
As I settled in between the two of them, my legs wrapped around Axel's torso, all I could do was pray to the goddess that Ares was safe.
I refused to accept any other reality.
