The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 65: CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE

Kane wasn't the chatty type, that was Axel's specialty but tonight, he was more quiet than usual. Like he was brooding which didn't make any sense, considering he was supposed to be taking me somewhere romantic.

“Hey, are you okay? You seem a little… sad,” I expressed.

“Oh, don't mind me. It's this traitor situation that's stressing me out. I wish there was an easier way to find out who it is. They might be able to lead us to your foster father so you can have closure before we, you know,” he replied and I sighed.

I had been indulging myself with every form of activity so I didn't get to pause at any point and give one second of my life to feeling anything for that man anymore, even if it was fear. Besides, I was getting stronger every day. I could feel it. I was learning different ways of using fire and even though my tutor was a bit rusty, considering he was a warlock and not a dragon rider, I still learned new tricks from him which helped boost my confidence.

But the thought of facing the man that made my life a living hell while I was growing up still gave me chills.

Wait, that's different.

I suddenly felt goosebumps all over my skin; like I had suddenly walked into winter. Which made no sense, everywhere was hot this time of the year.

“Kane? How far are we still going? We've been driving for a while and we're not going in the direction of town” I asked, confusion shrouding my thoughts.

It felt eerily familiar.

“I'm taking you somewhere special, love. Just relax, okay? I'll put on the radio for you. We're nearly there” he assured me but all it did was make me panic. I watched Kane scratch his chest and do everything he could to avoid looking in my direction even though I was staring intently at him.

And then it occurred to me. I'd recognize that chill even though I felt it in my nightmares.

“Kane? Did I ever tell you about Scarlet? My dragon's twin?” I asked, tentatively.

He frowned.

“Did you? I don't think so, darling. What about her?” He asked, and his tone showed he was struggling with something but I couldn't place my hand on it.

As he drove further down the paved path in the woods, my fear skyrocketed.

“I told you she wanted to control my dragon through me. She warned me never to let her close to me” I said quietly, the reality of what was happening becoming clearer and clearer as we approached a gate.

“Oh. Well, what I'm doing is totally different. You see, I don't want to share you with those mutts and I've spoken to Scarlet and he promised to sever the bond without hurting anyone. And from what you are saying, I won't just have you all to myself, I'll have two dragons as a bonus. Today is my lucky day. Now, try not to be too dramatic about it, we must show a united front. Witches can be crafty” he explained, as tears fell down my face.

The gate opened on its own and I couldn't stop crying. I had trusted Kane and he betrayed me for silly jealousy and selfishness. If the moon goddess decided that we were all to be bonded, why did he have to hate it so much?

And he is planning to control my dragon and her twin using me. Well, I won't allow it. Even if I have to fight to my death, we'll all die together and my dragon can find someone else, if that is possible.

“Where did you keep Ares and Axel?”

“They are in the trunk. Thank you for inviting them, they would never say no to you” he chuckled, a wicked glint in his eye.

“You can't do this, Kane. This is unlike you. I don't want to be mated to you alone, please stop this before it's too late!” I begged.

He packed the car and turned to me and I finally looked at him properly

“Come on little mate, there's no going back” he drawled.

“Wait, you are not Kane. Your eyes,” I noticed.

He rolled said eyes.

“You are smarter than I thought. But no matter, you are already in my domain, there's no going back. Once I complete the ritual, I'll release your mate and his counterparts but you, pretty Aurora are going to stay with me”

“No! I will not. Let go of my mates or I will burn this place to the ground!” I screamed.

Kane or whatever was driving his body laughed maniacally and got down from the car and dragged me out as well.

Then he produced a rope out of thin air, before going to grab Ares and Axel. They were unconscious. The sight broke my heart.

“You forget yourself Aurora. We are forged in a breathing volcano, fire is no threat to me. Now, it's time to get this over with.”

He dragged us all into a circle and he sat with us and clapped his hand. Then he slumped, and I quickly caught him.

A girl around my age opened the door of the house and rushed over, taking the rope and tying it round, regardless of how much I struggled against it.

“There's no use, girl. This circle will hold anything I need it to. The rope is just a precaution so stop struggling, I haven't got all night” the girl snapped at me.

“Look, you don't know what you are doing. You can't just destroy a mate bond. I'm new to this world and even I know that”

“Well, if I have a fuck, we wouldn't be here now, would we? Scarlet, I'm done” she said into the night and for a few terrifying seconds, nothing happened.

And then the blue dragon that had terrified me in my dreams flew into the clearing, and she came close to us, too close in fact she might have burnt me with the smoke coming out of her snout if I wasn't immune to fire.

But it was my unconscious mates I was scared for.

What if this mad duo completed their plans before the backup I called for arrived?

“Hello, Aurora. Finally, you are in my grasp. No more running, hm?” The dragon cooed at me, mischief in her eyes.

I decided to keep them talking, seeking more time.

“But why? This doesn't make any sense! She's your twin,”

The word made the dragon huff, smoke pouring out, making me cough.

“You are so weak, ugh. Lyra must have offended the old gods to be cursed with you. Anyways, that makes it easier for me and my partner to do what we are doing. It will hurt but you will survive, after all, we don't want her dying, just very, very loyal to the one true Queen as the gods have deemed it. I came out first and I will rule Arkonos” she said, stomping her feet.

"I can't believe you are destroying your bond with your own twin because of power. Two of my mates are twins and they share power. Ruling isn't all about telling people what to do, it's a job, a responsibility! You can't say your people are important to you if you are willing to hurt the ones closest to you just for it." I argued.

"You are but a child, what do you know about ruling!?" she shouted at me, stomping her feet again.

I guess she didn't know how big she was as the action shrouded us all in dust.

“Don't mind her, Scar. Let's begin the ritual, we need to take advantage of the moonlight” Her human said.

I noticed the relationship between them was shaky, like if she does the wrong thing, the dragon might freeze her to death. Meanwhile, Lyra always spoke to me in gentle and sweet tones, and she never made me feel bad about being weak. If I was with Scarlet, i doubt she would have accepted me. The dragon was power hungry to a fault and paired with a partner who is a witch is just a terrifying combination. Whoever was in charge of that really hated me.

As I watched them draw marks on the ground, saying incantations in a language I sure as hell, didn't understand, i felt a shiver.

Even though everywhere was hot when she got riled up, she always dragged the whole place into extreme coldness.

“Funny how you are using the moonlight but spitting on her children and the plans she has for them. And have you thought about your future? What if you get a werewolf for a mate? Will you be able to defend this?” I baited and it seems I struck a cord as the girl paused, a dark cloud passing through her eyes.

“Well, funny you should mention that. I in fact, had a werewolf mate and guess what? He died!” She shouted and began her incantation without further ado.

Damn, we're doomed.

If not for this circle and the ropes tightly wound about us, I could have touched her and maybe gotten her to heal from the pain. But in the absence of that, I couldn't say anything else to slow her down. Even I was getting weaker the longer my mates were unconscious.

If Flynn doesn't show up now, we are doomed
