The Tripartite Mate Bond Chapter 190: CHAPTER HUNDRED AND NINETY
When I came to, it was dark everywhere.
“Lyra?” I called as I struggled to get up from the bed.
“Oh finally you're awake,” she responded, relief in her voice. “You've gotta stop exhausting yourself all the time. We're pregnant, remember?” She scolded me
“I'm sorry, I just didn't want to disappoint them or make them feel too bad,”
“They're going to be fine. You're not dead, just in another realm and they can come here anytime they want to. There's no need hurting yourself just so they can feel like you're there. I mean, what if you were actually dead?”
“In a way, I kind of am, the fact that I'm now a goddess us why there's a sort of loophole,”
“Exactly what I'm saying! They should be grateful for it. You've made every sacrifice you can ever make so their expectations need to be toned down a little. You nearly fell off me last night,”
My eyes widened in shock. I thought I'd held her tightly as I felt my consciousness slip away from me.
“You always catch me Lyra, thank you so much,”
“You're welcome but I wasn't the one to do that this time,”
I frowned, my hands connecting with the rail as I got out of the mansion.
“I know Bez is strong but there's no way he'd be able to catch me so thank you for breaking my fall,”
“The demigod wasn't even anywhere near you. It was Hades that did and I heard he was sent to come take you to mount Olympus,”
“They sent someone after me? But I need to recuperate first!” I was confused with the way this world worked. Zeus might be the king but every other God had autonomy over their domain and time. I don't see why he couldn't wait a few more days before he got to see me.
“Then it's best you head back inside to avoid him rounding you up first thing in the morning on that ghastly chariot of his,” Lyra said in disgust.
“Wait, I'm not flying with you?”
That would break my heart. To be in the midst of these strangers without any familiar face scared the crap out of me, goddess or not.
“I mentioned that but he said it was way too far for me to fly with you considering I was not a part of this world,”
“Ignore his crap, you're as much a part of this world as I am. Gods are supposed to be immortal but the fire in my soul, which you also have killed one so he definitely should be scared of you,”
“Which is why you need to go alone. Make sure they don't feel threatened by you and probably tell them he was already dying and you just took advantage of the moment or something,” she advised.
“Yea, I get you. If they fear that I'm capable of killing a god, then my life is in danger and I'm literally at my lowest right now,”
I turned around, I didn't want to teleport, using up the energy I'd gotten since last night so I had to walk back the way I'd come.
I was hoping everyone except the servants would be asleep and I would be able to get back to my room without detection but I was wrong.
The god of the dead walked out of his room on the ground floor as I stepped foot on the stairs.
I knew it was him because his aura alone could kill mortals if he unleashed it.
“Aurora,” he called out to me, his voice giving the chills. “You're awake,”
“Lyra informed me of your intentions,” I replied, walking towards him instead of heading to my room.
“You disrespected the king of all gods, you must have expected this,”
“No, not at all. He's not running away or anything. If there's anything we have in common, it's time. Lots of it. So I needed to do something really important and I'll be at his mountain the moment I can walk without my body screaming at me,”
“I'm sorry you'll have to come along with me tomorrow morning. I have a job to do and I'm not like you with an assistant,”
I frowned.
He was talking as though I had no choice in the matter and must go whichever direction he sent me to.
“Hades, I respect your position and your job but I don't need to be dragged like a petulant child to his highness to be disciplined. I'll rest and I'll be at his mountain in three days time,” I spelled out. “With my dragon.”
Before he could say anything else, I turned around and went back to my room.
If he wanted to attack me, he would have done it while I was falling from my dragon's back so I wasn't scared of him doing that now.
“He won't be happy with the news though,” he said to my receding form.
I turned around from the staircase to address his statement.
“I doubt he's ever happy. My presence or absence won't do much to change it.”
I wasn't going to be thrown around by anyone here, god or demigod. This was literally an eternity of my existence except someone finally succeeded in killing me.
I didn't want to start it with the impression that I was a pushover.
I may have been before but after the year I've had, I'll never let anyone tell me I'm not strong enough.
The next morning, there was a pigeon at my window with a message from Zeus again.
“He ran out of messengers already?”
I opened the file and its contents gave me chills.
“You are playing a dangerous game, newcomer. So since you insist, let the games begin.
Zeus.”
“Seriously?” I snapped as I showed the contents to Lyra.
“I genuinely feel you should just go. I mean, we're trying to go for meek and powerless so actually being powerless might help sell that lie,”
“But it won't be a lie. I'll be like a lamb led to the slaughter and I don't want that,”
“But if you don't go now, you'll make an enemy out of him and considering this is his kingdom, that's not really smart.
I rubbed my throbbing temple and got up from my bed.
I was looking for Bez to inform him of my decision to go but I saw Hades gearing up to leave.
His eyes lingered on my nightgown that I'd forgotten to change longer than I'd love it to but I ignored it. It wasn't something that could be allowed to bother me now.
“Can you wait? I've changed my mind,” I asked him and he finally stopped ogling me to process my request.
“Sure, I'll wait,”
“But my dragon is coming and if gets tired ten times, we'll rest ten times. Deal?”
He gave me a withering look that might have melted lesser beings but with e
ach second I spent here, I was stronger so I stared right back at him.
“Fine.” He conceded. “I'll be waiting.”
