“AURORA'S POV”

Like clockwork, Margaret came to open the curtains, bringing me away from the amazing dream I had begun having again. This time, my mates were with me in their wolf forms.

I picked up my phone and shot Flynn a text as I had done the past one week, inquiring about the health of my dragon. I felt so terrible that I didn't even get to find out her name before she went AWOL on me.

Each night, I hoped she would come to me as she usually did. The mark she left on my chest was always warm and fuzzy, which was the only reason I believed Flynn. I mean, I didn't know what else to do. It wasn't like I could simply get you and start looking for them. I simply had to believe whatever he told me and that he had my best interest at heart since they aligned with his.

My phone beeped;

“She's fine,” the text read.

As usual.

I dropped my phone on the bedside table and went to prepare for gym.

“Good morning, Maggie. Your hair looks great today” I say, throwing another futile attempt at bonding with my mate's very sweet housekeeper. We are going to be seeing each other for a very long time and I didn't want it to be so gloomy.

“It's the same hair I've always worn, Luna. Your outfits are ready and I have your coffee” she replied, making me feel frustrated. But I took a deep breath and decided to try again tomorrow. She'd break at some point.

I got dressed and ran to the pack training ground.

Meanwhile, Ares and Axel had had to rush back to the pack the next morning after the dinner and that amazing incident in the backseat of Kane's SUV. Each time I remember it, a smile lights up my face. Anyway, there's been some lead back at Nightshade that they need to investigate.

I decided to let them deal with it as my meddling wouldn't solve anything. Instead, I focused on training my mind and body. I was tired of being the weak girl. Also, I knew father was coming for me one way or another and I needed him to meet a version of me that would be brave enough to face him.

I joined the pack members jogging along the path that went into the forest and ended at the pack entrance. It was long, rocky and harsh but these were werewolves. Those terms sounded like a holiday to them.

I might have become supernatural in certain ways but I wasn't blessed with the strength and endurance these people had.

“Good morning, Luna” Maya greeted me and I smiled back at her, making no attempt to go as fast as they were.

Besides, I knew she was mocking me and looking for a reaction from me but I'm on a “kill them with kindness” mission.

I was at the back with the Omegas and they were nice, so why not? At least, my relationship with them was better than the rest of the “stronger” wolves. I joined them in preparing dinner sometimes since I was good at it. I really enjoyed cooking so I took advantage of the big kitchen with so many people helping out. It also helped that the head cook liked me the moment she saw me. She was a witch and she thought I reminded her of an old relative. Whatever rocks her boat, I'm just happy I have one less impassive face.

The first time I tried running the track with the pack, I was confident I was going to faint. I nearly stopped halfway and turned back but the snickering I heard from those girls with hair that nearly glowed made my stubborn spirit come out and I pushed on till the end. It was obvious they thought I couldn't make it but I did. And then I went right to sleep afterwards. Kane thought I had fainted.

But with each passing day, I was getting better at hiding my fatigue and how strenuous this path was. I saw it as my way into connecting with them since I was going to be one of them soon enough.

No one had said anything about the Luna Ceremony which Cora explained would give the pack an unwavering feeling of loyalty towards me, just like their Alpha.

I didn't want that. I wanted them to like me on their own.

So each day, I do something more than I did the day before. Wolves are obsessed with strength so I have to prove myself in that way. In fact, I was in front of the Omegas today, a feat I never thought possible before.

Finally we got to the end of the trail and I bent over, taking deep breaths.

“You know, you don't have to run with us. We understand your strength is nothing compared to ours,” Crystal, Maya's second in command in whatever little cult they'd formed said to me.

“There's no comparison here, Crys. I'm just doing what's best for myself. You know how important exercises are, don't you” I replied, while taking deep breaths.

“What Crystal meant to say was, being a human has its limits and you'll be better off knowing your place rather than trying so hard to be what you are not” Maya said and it immediately occurred to me that they didn't even know how much I've grown since the last time I was here. I decided to play into her delusions. For now.

“You are right, Maya. Humans are indeed weaker than the entire supernatural race. But what we lack in biology, we make up for in wits, perseverance and sheer brilliance. I'll run as much as I want to and you'll stop trying to berate me. I'm going to continue training before I get to work. Shall we?” I asserted, turning around and walking back to the training ground while they followed, whispering, while believing I couldn't hear them.

If only they knew.
